Do Not Buy!

By Lucas-yoxdz

from California

I ordered one of these packages and was shocked to find out the truth about this package. First of all, in the Ad here, it shows these mics are wired with Mogami cabling, and both have a 20/20 Frequency range. Not True! The item you will actually receive has NO Mogami technology and will not have their logo anywhere, Mogami NOT mentioned in the manual, nothing. Secondly, this Ad shows both mics have a Frequency range of 20-20KHz, the actual Frequency Range is as follows as noted clearly in the manual: (MXL 992 = 25-20 KHz)&(MXL 993 = 30-20 KHz) I have made several attempts with customer service to resolve this and have waited over a month to receive 2 different replacements. I am very disappointed. They refuse to acknowledge this mistake so I hope someone reads this before buying.

My lord...I was a little bit skeptical about purchasing these things mainly because of the price... my skepticism was completely unfounded. At first, I thought there was some fuzz on the bottom end on these mics, but it turned out the things were so sensitive they were picking up my laptops hard drive noise. They are that sensitive. The roll-off switch corrects this almost completely. The 992 is great for vocal recording. I've laid down a few tracks with it so far, and you really can't lose. My one objection is that the sound on the 992 is a little bright for me, but that is easily fixed with some simple eq adjustments. As far as the 993 is concerned, I have no complaints... other than "I wish I had this three years ago." I've been using it to record penny whistle with amazing results. Again, this thing was picking up hard drive noise, but that is mostly corrected if you use the roll-off switch. The shockmount is also stupendous, though I wish it came with one for the 993 as well. The case is worth its weight in gold. It is beautiful, very sturdy, and it has room for all your attachments... including your mic mounts. Very convenient... I just wish it had an extra slot for my pop filter :).

warm solution

I just recieved these babies. They haved warmed up my trax considerably. I've used them for micing guitar cabs, vocals & acoustic close miking. They are much better than using my vocal mics [sm57].

Great Buy

This a great buy if you're looking for great mics at an affordable price. The 992 is awesome for vocals, while the 993 is excellent for recording acoustic and electric guitar, although a little too much bass(which can easily be fixed with an EQ board). Overall a great buy.
