The price sounds too good to be true, but after reading all the positive comments on this site I had to hear them for myself. They are a bit boomy, and lacking in the vocal region when placed on the ground but once they are elevated the highs cut through the crowd and the excessive bass evens out while maintaining enough low end to be used without a Subwoofer. The cabinet does not seem as durable as some of the higher priced "plastic boxes" but mine have held up well. They use a stamped frame woofer as opposed to the cast aluminum drivers that Peavey offers, but I have yet to have blown a driver. Use enough amplifier to run them. Watch out for the clip lights on your amps, and/or use a limiter and you shouldn't have any problems with drivers going out. Althogh the box is quite large for a single 15" they are remarkabley light weight. Don't expect the same performance of speakers which cost $1000+ per pair. With that in mind they are an excellent value. Peavey gets an A+

I use these speakers every week for a church rock band for the past year. As people have mentioned, they are ridiculously light, which is great for transportation. And, they will handle far more watts than any speaker that I am aware of at this price. But, there are definitely far better sounding speakers to buy. I have heard speakers that sound worse than these, but I would definitely recommend saving your money and buying Yamaha Club V SM12V's, or JBL JRX112M's if you can. Both of these speakers have a far superior sound to the Peaveys. They are both cleaner, and have more bass. People have said have that the Peavey's will punch if you add a sub with them. Well DUH! Any speaker will punch if you add a sub! The bottom line on these speakers is this. If you are on a tight budget, like the organization that I run sound for each week, then these speakers are not a bad choice. They will definitely give you the most power for the dollar. But, if you can possibly afford it, you should definitively buy the Yamaha's or the JBL's. Both of those are far superior to the Peaveys.

Very light and pack alot of sound

By the karaoke guy

from southern Mo.

I am a karaoke and club dj. these speakers have very crisp clear sound and cand stand up very well but lack alot in the low department so get a sub and you have a great sound. but by them selves do vey well. I own and use them for my private gigs and love the light weight and roadability and sound.

Great Speakers!

By DrMr77

from Pittsburgh, PA

I bought a pair of these speakers a few months ago and they're some of the best speakers I've ever used. Not only are they extremely light-weight, but they sound awesome. They never distort any sounds, no matter what volume (except the guitar, which is purposely distorted). I use them with an old 300w Peavey mixer and 2 15" floor monitors. They don't provide all of the low end that I need, but my floor monitors take care of that. If you have or are going to buy a sub or some bassy speakers, these speakers will be great for you.

Sound great when new, but.....

By G-Force

from Lyons, IL

I bought these about 9 months ago and use them for karaoke gigs 4 nights a week. I have already had to replace the woofers twice. I love the sound from these cabs, but after a while the drivers just start to fall on their face when they hit certain low frequencies. The drivers will fail again in about a month...seems to happen every 2-3 months which is just too often. Next time I will replace them with something other than the cheezy Peavey drivers that are supposed to be in it and see what happens. You get what you pay for. These are Peaveys least expensive cabs for a reason. CHEAP Components! Although I love the composite cabs, the problems I am having with the drivers is unacceptable. Save yourself the hassle and spend your money on Yamaha or JBL.

PR12 Does the Job

By Rusty Sterling

from San Francisco, CA

I used my PR12s for the first time at a recent benefit, running sound for a jazz combo. They easily filled a room half the size of a gymnasium and sound great. They cut nicely above the conversation noise. Plus they are really light, which is just another plus.

I am a singer/song writter. I do shows for churches and civic organizations. I burn a minus track playing all instraments and singing all back ground and haromny. I use this while singing live and playing a guitar, mandalin, bass, etc. I have been using a "small" moniter with the same watt capacity as this one but the clarity was not good and I couldn't really tell what I sounded like to the audiance. This new Peavey PR-12 is like a breath of fresh air. The clarity is wonderful and the sound is the same quality as my main speakers. It is rugged and easy to carry with built in handles. It has made a wonderful difference for me. thanks.

Workhorse in a box

By Tunesmyth04

I bought a pair of these a year ago, and have done over 200 shows with them. I play solo shows, so they are perfectly suited for my stuff. I've noticed that there are times when a slight rattle occurs in the low end, but as much as I put these to use, I'm very pleased with their out-put. I have cared for them very well, and I think that may be the reason of their endurance. I push them with a 250W mixer, and they rise to the occassion. They are cheap and they have to be treated as such. Don't drop them or throw them in the truck after the gig. Take good care of these, and they will take excellent care of you.

I've done two gigs so far with these new peavey pr-12's and must say for the money there is "no-way" they can be beat for the buck! in both performance, light weight, and small size.In my book they compare with anything i have heard in there price range & size regardless of manufacture.

Great value for the money

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

I originally bought these as a secondary pair to go alongside my EV's. The PR-12's definitely compliment the EV's nicely. I can use them for smaller parties (100 or less) by themselves, but I wouldn't suggest using them as your mains at larger events, like in a gym or a larger hall. They just don't have the kickin' bass necessary. If you do a lot of smaller parties, or work the bar scene, they will work fine. For the money, you can't beat them! Treat them with respect and they will treat you well in return.

Best value out there

After reading the overwhelmingly positive reviews from this and other sites, I purchased a pair. First of all, these speakers are so lightweight it's unreal. They look very neat and professional, not cheap. They are sturdy, and extremely space efficient. They are also a piece of cake to carry or mount on poles. They sound clear as a bell and have surprising low end (54 hz is no slouch) They have a slight harshness in the 1k frequency area, but can be easily eliminated with a good EQ. They are versatile in that they can be used as house speakers, or monitors because of their shape. When used with a subwoofer, they really kick, but do fine by themselves. All in all, this is the best value in a speaker I have ever seen. They look and sound like something costing much more. You cannot go wrong with these. No one I have shown them to could believe how little they cost. I am not a fanatic usually for Peavey products, but they hit a home run with these.

Peavey makes some nice eq. Speakers put out a lot of sound for the price. If you push them or 200watts /each. Your going to have problems. If you can go for the 15" peavey Cabs.

Excellent for upper end of frequencies.

By buckrub

Little lacking from the low end of frequecy response.but combined with a sub will definately put out.My use is solely in my at home studio.I use it with a lower watt amps.It is a solid pa speaker that holds up from going from studio to practice space. The cabinet is very sturdy.A good buy for the money.I cant wait to mike my drum set and put the sound trough these speakers. The high end is very crisp and the mids and hgigher end of the bass frequencies are great.

The Blaze!

By BLAZE-p1kHJ

These PR-12's are the truth. The best 12 inch full range speakers I have heard in a long time. I bought 1 a few weeks ago and they kick. The low end is exceptionally impressive for a 12 inch speaker cabinet. I'm going back to get another one. These hold up well under pressure. If you want a smaller rig, then I recommend these. They are great!
