I bought this mic at a local music store because the drummer in my band kept on complaining that we all need our own equipment. So I bought it figuring ok I'll tape it up and a couple months out of it. But now I've had it for about 3 months and its still running strong, I sing through a samson s9 at my church and used to sing through a Sennheiser e825S when my band practiced. This mic sounds almost as good, obviously there are gonna be some things better about more expensive mics and now i wish i would have bought the pg-58 but oh well I got a nice mic for the price. Me and the ruthm guitarist in my band also do some acoustic stuff and I used this for my vocal and it sounded very proffesional, this is a highly recomened mic!

I bought 3 of these for use at an Open Mic night that I run. However, after 4 months all 3 three have crapped out. The worst part is that they only got used one night a week. Basically what it boils down to is each mic has less 60 hours on it and I'm already looking for replacements. Shure usually makes great stuff in the lower price range. These however, were very harsh sounding and no matter what I did just could not be very dialed in. Pass on these they're sub par at best.

Great for A camp

By Noah McCoy

from Twin Cities

Comments about Shure PG48-XLR Microphone with Switch:

Great mic overall, on/off switch can be an issue for some if it gets bumped or forgotten. Major improvemnet over the Fender mics that these were replacing even on the older sound rig..
The quality has been great have used 3 of them for 4 months straight with 2 hours a day of use and no issues. The most issue I had is people forgetting to turn the switch back on. These have been dropped sevral times and still work well.
Value has been great, 3 of them were bought for a camp to replace a mix of old off brand mics that were very damaged. After 4 months of use and abuse by camp counslers with little audio experiecne and not issues yet. Much more practical for a camp than SM58's for due to the price.

Comments about Shure PG48-XLR Microphone with Switch:

well dont expect a superb quality mic at this price range, its a elly good mic for vocals applications, drums and stuff like that, you cant compare it to a sm58 but its a bargain for the price, i use it as my talkback mic into my studio and orks nice with the switch, i have 2 mics and theyre great. i also have a sennheiser e 838 and its awesome for vocals, so if you want a nice sounding bullet proof mic this is it..even if it fails its only 40 bucks!

Comments about Shure PG48-XLR Microphone with Switch:

I bought one of these mics 3 or 4 years ago and it's still going strong. It's very good for backing vocals, I've also mic'd guitars and drums with it for demos, and it captures sound very well. Worth the cash for sure.

Comments about Shure PG48-XLR Microphone with Switch:

I bought this microphone in a local music shop with christmas money, and as soon as I got home, I plugged it into a dean 10-watt guitar amp and it still sounded great. I can only imagine how good it will sound through a real P.A. system. It holds up well at band practices, and sounds great on recording. I have recorded Drums, Bass, Guitar, Piano, and vocals with the PG48, and the sound is almost studio quality, if you tweak things just right. I'm proud to call myself an owner of an authentic Shure PG48 Microphone.

Comments about Shure PG48-XLR Microphone with Switch:

I gave this mic a 9 on value becasue I havent tried it with an instrument yet, but for vocals its crystal clear. It makes even my school's crappy P.A system sound professional. These are very durable. I wouldn't throw it around but they feel like they would hold up. Overall this is a good vocal mic, never tried instruments.

A solid budget option.

By Sir Rubberface

from Ontario, Canada

Comments about Shure PG48-XLR Microphone with Switch:

It's a sturdy little mic for the money. A bit mushy in the low mids for my liking for a vocal mic, but you won't find top-end pro performance at this price anyway. As a utility mic, it will handle just about anything a rock band might use it for, so it's a good low-cost option for an "extra mic". Just don't expect crazy-good performance.

Not the best deal

Comments about Shure PG48-XLR Microphone with Switch:

The drummer in my band has one of these. Its a decent backup vocal mic. One problem I have with it is that the shape of the barrel makes it prone to slipping out of the mic clip easily. Our bass player has a cheapo Nady SP4 that I think is just as good sounding, doesn't have the slippage problem and cost 1/4th the price.

I Have Been Using 4 Of These For A Couple Years Now An Average Of 80 Nights A Year At 4 Hours A Night And NO Foul Ups Yet... And Karaoke Singers Are The Worst For Damaging Mics!!!

I Like The Fact That Pressing On The Slide Switch Does Not Put Pressure Directly On The Electronics Causing Shorts, Other Brands This Is Not So And After A While Pressing On The Switch Causes The Mic To Cut Out, But Not With These!!!

I Have Had Them Dropped And Dented And I Simply Removed the Screen And Pressed The Screen Back Out... I Use Thick Color Coded Wind Screens, They A Good About Hiding Any Damage And Also Protecting Them From Drops...

If They Ever Die I Will Be Buying Them Again!!!

This mic works great, I use it for my guitarist to provide backing vocals, it works just as good as the pg58, but its way cheaper. It also works well for recording, I used it and my pg58 to record drums and the quality is almost professional, I highly recommend it!

This mic isn't drastically better or worse then any other regular mic in live applications. It is pretty good for recording vocals in recordings if you don't have phantom power, that's all I use it for.

i just got this mic and it kicks the **** out of the sony's i've been using. this mic will last a long time and is very sturdy. it's heavy (for a mic) which means it's really good. the sony i used litterally broke, the top fell off and besides, you couldn't hear anything anyways. if you can get this mic, get it. i am always using shure now.

Comments about Shure PG48-XLR Microphone with Switch:

I bought one of these to use in a small home group youth meeting. We have about 20 or so that attend a teen home group meeting and we use this for lead vocals in a acoustic style setting with a guitar, V-drums, and Keyboard accompinament. This mic is just fantastic. Good strong lead local mic. We use a small portable PA, and it does not give any feedback. Tonal range is great. It appears to be very durable. I dropped it once - no effect, still works great. We also used this mic outside plugged into a PA attached to a loudspeaker for announcements at soccer games. Again - it does not disappoint.

This is a good mic if you're on a budget. It's pretty durable and does have the built in pop filter, along with an on/off switch. For the money you spend it's pretty good. However, if you play out a lot or whatever, get the SM58. Overall, it's not awesome, but pretty good!
