Overview

Classic tube microphone character with versatile multipattern recording.

Classic tube microphone character meets modern studio versatility in the United Studio Technologies UT Tube67 large-diaphragm multipattern tube condenser microphone. Inspired by the renowned German 67-style microphones of the 1960s, the UT Tube67 combines a selected NOS EF86 pentode vacuum tube, custom dual-diaphragm K67-style capsule and American-made output transformer to capture sources with a smooth top end and full-bodied low-midrange response. Three selectable polar patterns—cardioid, omnidirectional and figure-8—provide flexibility for recording vocals, acoustic instruments, piano, drums and room ambience. A switchable Air modification adds an alternative high-frequency response, while an 80Hz high-pass filter and -10dB pad accommodate different recording conditions. With carefully selected components and a dedicated external power supply, the UT Tube67 brings the tonal characteristics of a classic tube condenser design to contemporary recording sessions.

Custom K67 Capsule and Vintage EF86 Tube Circuit

The UT Tube67 centers on a custom 34 mm dual-backplate capsule inspired by a carefully selected example from the 1970s. Its dual diaphragms use 6-micron Mylar with 24k gold sputtering, and the capsule is tuned to work with the microphone's operating voltage. Paired with a selected NOS EF86 pentode vacuum tube, this design produces the smooth high-frequency character and substantial low-midrange response associated with classic 67-style microphones. A custom-wound UT-BV12 output transformer, manufactured in the United States with high-nickel alloy laminations, contributes to the microphone's low-frequency performance. Its copper Faraday shield also helps reduce radio-frequency interference during recording.

Selectable Polar Patterns and Air Modification for Recording

Three selectable polar patterns allow the UT Tube67 to adapt to a range of recording techniques. Cardioid operation focuses pickup toward the front of the microphone, while omnidirectional and figure-8 settings provide additional options for room capture, ensemble recording and microphone placement. The switchable Air modification introduces a subtle high-frequency lift for sources that benefit from added presence. An 80Hz high-pass filter helps manage unwanted low-frequency content, and the -10dB pad provides additional flexibility when recording louder sources. With a 20Hz–20kHz frequency response and maximum SPL of 137dB at 0.5% THD, the microphone accommodates applications ranging from intimate vocal performances to drums, brass and amplified instruments.

Studio-Ready Components for Versatile Recording Sessions

Beyond its tube circuit and capsule design, the UT Tube67 incorporates practical details for use in professional recording environments. Its solid milled-brass body features a nickel-electroplated finish with black satin paint, while the dedicated regulated power supply connects through a custom 6m Sommer Octave seven-conductor cable. A suspension-style shockmount and vintage-style storage pouch are also included. Final assembly and testing take place at United Studio Technologies' U.S. facility. From lead vocals and acoustic guitars to orchestral instruments, piano and room microphones, the United Studio Technologies UT Tube67 condenser microphone offers a flexible recording tool built around the components and circuit characteristics of a classic studio design.
