About Taylor Grand Pacific Guitars

At NAMM 2019, the Taylor Grand Pacific body shape was announced. It is a new shape built on the V-Class bracing platform. The Grand Pacific design shows how the body shape and tonewoods can work together beautifully. You'll find a bevy of distinct and desirable tonal palettes. Grand Pacific guitars have clear low-end power and tonal consistency. They are also quite versatile. They come with luxurious hardshell case with Western floral pattern, made by Taylor for optimal fit and protection. The first lineup of Taylor Grand Pacific acoustic guitars includes the Builder's Edition 717, 717e, 517 and 517e. It also includes the 317 and 317e. To learn more about these new guitars, check out the Grand Pacific launch on The HUB.

The V-Class bracing used on the Taylor Grand Pacifc helps create an even clearer delineation between the tonal character of each wood used. Sitka Spruce is the most prevalent guitar top wood of the modern era. It blends stiffness and elasticity in just the right proportions which translates into broad dynamic range with crisp articulation. Taylor Grand Pacific guitar models with the lowercase-e in the model name feature the ES2 pickup. It is Taylor’s ongoing innovation in acoustic guitar amplification. The heart of the ES2, also called Expression System 2, is Taylor’s patented behind-the-saddle pickup. It features three uniquely positioned and individually calibrated pickup sensors. Because the pickup doesn't sit under the saddle, the bottom of the saddle comes in full contact with the Grand Pacific's bridge, allowing all the nuance of the guitar's tone to come through clearly.

Taylor 717 and 717e Grand Pacific

The 717 and 717e Grand Pacific feature an Indian rosewood body and torrefied Sitka spruce top with Taylor V-Class bracing. They have black sapele binding and a maple single-ring rosette. You'll love its easy playing 25.5-inch scale length Compound Carve tropical mahogany neck with smooth satin finish. It's flat 15-inch radius West African ebony fingerboard has 20 frets and Mother-of-pearl Arrowhead inlays. The 717 and 717e also have West African ebony bridge pins, Micarta saddle, 1.75-inch graphite nut and Taylor nickel tuners.

The Sitka spruce top on the flagship Taylor 717e Grand Pacific has a special seasoning process called torrefaction. It is a method of roasting the wood to produce an aged tonal character with greater acoustic resonance and responsiveness. Rosewood, imparts a sound that can be described as "wet" and lives near the opposite end of the tonal spectrum from mahogany. Rosewood produces a unique harmonic complexity because it doesn’t damp or mute any of the string’s own harmonic content. It even adds some of its own. So every note played on a Grand Pacific guitar has a thick, rich, luxurious character.
