The ukulele is not only an introductory staple for music students, it's also an incredibly fun "pick up and play" instrument for musicians of all skill levels. No one knows that better than Riptide, and their ukuleles offer great sound that fits into any budget. With a Riptide ukulele, you'll be well on your way to filling the halls with classic Hawaiian sounds. The ukulele may have a smaller following than its bigger relatives, but there's no shortage of innovations in uke design. Riptide is one of the leaders in that respect, with their unique solid-top design. Instead of a traditionally-positioned sound hole, these ukuleles use a "dual port" system, with one forward-facing port and another on the side of the uke, facing up toward the player. The result is that as you're playing, the sound is projected not only toward the audience, but also up at you so you can hear every note clearly. That's a helpful feature for students as well as concert uke players - anytime you need to be sure you're playing each chord just right. As well, all of Riptide's ukuleles are fitted with Aquila "Nylgut" strings straight from the factory so they sound great right out of the box. Die-cast tuning machines are standard for reliable tuning, and they're all bound with abalone for a bit of a stylish touch.
Riptide ukuleles are available in the standard concert style, as well as tenor ukuleles for players wanting some added low-end range. Both the UT-2N tenor and the UC-2CS concert uke are made with a spruce top and rosewood back and sides, which gives them a warm, mellow voice. If you're looking for something a bit brighter, check out the Riptide UC-5NGC Concert Ukulele, which has a solid mahogany top and laminated mahogany back and sides for a tighter, hardwood sound.
One instrument that deserves special mention is the Riptide EUT-2N acoustic-electric ukulele. While this uke sounds great on its own, its real power comes from the Boulder Creek UK-300T preamp and pickup system. This allows you to plug the ukulele in to an amplifier and even some effect pedals if you like, giving it a boost so you can perform in venues too big for an unamplified uke. The preamp on the EUT-2N has a 2-band EQ with a built-in tuner and it can run on battery power, which allows you to be completely mobile when paired with a battery amp.
Whichever Riptide ukulele you choose, from the low-voiced acoustic tenor models to the plug-or-unplug versatility of the acoustic-electric uke, you can count on these instruments to be solid performers. They're as fun to play as any other ukulele, and Riptide's innovative "dual port" sound holes are a cool feature that makes them easily heard from any angle.
