OVERVIEW

Top quality orchestral clarinet.

The Yamaha YCL-CSVR Clarinet is the result of years of development dedicated to a clearly focused concept: crafting a Custom clarinet that has a beautiful sound, consistent quality, and an affordable price. Both student and professional clarinetists require a rich sound and comfortable playability. These qualities were combined with the high level of consistency that only Yamaha can provide, allowing clarinetists to demand a higher standard than ever before.

Its durable leather pads ensure a precise seal between pad and tonehole for ease of response throughout the entire range of the clarinet. Its custom barrel design provides the CSVR with a well-balanced response and rich, warm tonal colors that will elevate the progressing clarinetists playing. The YCL-CSVR has redesigned keys that offer comfortable, ergonomic hand placement. In addition, the new keys have thicker silver-plating for a dark and resonant sound quality.

Comments about Yamaha YCL-CSVR Series Professional Bb Clarinet:

This horn pretty much shocked me. Some horn such as Buffet's Bachun's, and Selmer's can cost from $6000 to $15,000 and this Yamaha plays better. I sold 8 sets of Buffet's. Not right away, but over 6 months. At a rehearsal I played the Copland Concerto on an R13 then played it in the CSVR and the orchestra members as well as the conductor picked the Yamaha. I used the same mouthpiece and the same reed. The musicians felt the horn filled the hall with a round warmth and a sweet sound. I play with a double lip embouchure. For the recording I of course played on the Yamaha!

I make my own mouthpieces and Yamaha should consider using my pro mouthpieces instead of the horrible one they include with this great pro clarinet. I PROMISE this will add to the quality of the horn. The leather pads I was worried about figuring they would leak. Nope, they sealed for 30 seconds. If you try to buy a Buffet the horn won't seal; none of them, so you have to have this repaired, plus you have to have some notes tuned. You are looking at a $500 bill for a new horn, before it's playable. Then it tunes to 440, just a shade flat, because when you enter the upper register, above high C the notes drop to 438 or so and the other wind just to 441. This is a major reason for changing horns.

The CSVR plays remarkably well in tune and the notes are very even, the very best I've ever played. There are no dead note nor notes that pop out, so you have complete control over the horn.

I tried out a out of horns this summer. Even German made, but not the Albert system. Probably 13 different companies and 30 assorted models. You've probably seen me on PBS TV late at night! For a set of horns you can pay as much as $29,000. Don't do it. These horns were dead. They won't fill an orchestra hall. I can afford these, but they suck!

I will finish with this. I only tried 3 or 4 Yamaha's and they ALL played right out of the case. All of them would have worked just fine.

Play these before you waste your money on some other instrument company.
