I have played with the Lars sticks for years, but there have always been certain...issues. The Spug sticks solve all of them. First, the Lars sticks just sound dull on cymbals, particularly on the bell. Not so on the Spug sticks. The Lars sticks are heavy. These are not. The Lars sticks do not make a wood-like sound on rim shots, or even just clicking the sticks together. These do. Add that to the Ahead durability (the only real reason I stuck with the Lars sticks for so long) and you have just about the world's perfect drumstick.

These sticks sounded like a great idea/value. Then I used them. They play great but the covers only last me about 3 practices or shows. The plastic just gets chewed to hell by the cymbals. They mite b ok for a drummer that doesnt play much but I play 6 days a week and they last about half as long as a pair of 747s.

Comments about Ahead Spug Mudvanye/Matt McDonough Drumsticks:

I've been playing with AHEAD sticks for about a year and half, and have been a believer ever since I first tried them. These sticks are nothing short of amazing! I started out with the 5A's, liked them alot but found the Joey Jordison's(Slipknot), and then I found the Matt "sPuG" McDonough's(Mudvayne) which is now my weapon of choice. The weight and balance of these sticks are perfect for my style of playing, which is alittle bit of everything. From hard rock to jazz, metal to alternative. The Acorn tip is round like a little marble, instead of looking more like a jelly bean like most nylon tip sticks, which means it hits perfectly from any angle. These sticks will definatley improve your playing, I guaruntee it! And for the people that either have the severe problem of dropping sticks due to sweaty hands, blisters, cramps, etc., try the AHEAD gloves. They work wonders for your hands.

Comments about Ahead Spug Mudvanye/Matt McDonough Drumsticks:

I had a pair of these for years before I sold my kit due to a divorce. Now that I am building a new kit, the one I have always wanted, the first thing I ordered after the Shell pack was these sticks. I absolutely will not use another pair of sticks.

        Ahead 7A Matt

Comments about Ahead Spug Mudvanye/Matt McDonough Drumsticks:

The feel, rebound, and consistency of Ahead sticks is noticeably better than their wooden counterparts. I initially switched from wood to aluminum because I was tired of breaking sticks and having my drums covered in sawdust. While the Ahead product certainly lasts longer than wood sticks, they DO break and I'm not entirely convinced the slightly longer life justifies the significantly higher price. But the durability coupled with their undeniably better playing characteristics (for me anyway) makes the Ahead sticks the superior product. They are all I use now.

Comments about Ahead Spug Mudvanye/Matt McDonough Drumsticks:

Don't let the title fool you, it's not that I hate Mudvayne, but the sticks sucked. They are just to light. If you are a person that has sweaty palms the sticks will fly right out. I'm not discouraging you to not buy them, but take this reveiw into consideration.

Comments about Ahead Spug Mudvanye/Matt McDonough Drumsticks:

I love the way these sticks feel and are my favorite of the 4 sets of Ahead sticks I own. I broke the tip off of one of them today at practice. A year worth of abuse before that happening. I got my moneys worth. So that means I'll be buying another pair. I wish they made an indestructable stick..lol. I like the idea of Titanium. I'd pay for it. Hint Hint Ahead.. Still beats leaving a pile of saw dust on my kit. Thank you Ahead.

        Good Buy

Comments about Ahead Spug Mudvanye/Matt McDonough Drumsticks:

So far, I've had these for two months, and they've held up terrifically. I haven't had to replace the covers or anything to keep them maintained well. The only complaint I have is that there is a plastic spacer in between the nylon cover and the handle that cuts my thumb while I play sometimes, but that just has to do with my grip. Definitely happy I got these.

Comments about Ahead Spug Mudvanye/Matt McDonough Drumsticks:

I started out with a pair of lars ulrich signature sticks, I cracked one in half after about a year and now I have these. these sticks have brought up my speed, agility and dexterity. I'm doing stuff I could ever do with the heavy ass lars sticks. These sticks are without a doubt the best sticks I have ever played with.

        God's Drumsticks

Comments about Ahead Spug Mudvanye/Matt McDonough Drumsticks:

I have gone through almost every pair of drumsticks imaginable, and by far, the Ahead Matt McDonough sticks have the best balance, rebound and are some of the loudest sticks due to the slightly smaller scale of the sticks, which allows for strength to be channeled more directly than standard sticks. also the sound on the toms and snare are just perfect for harder types of music, obviously not for softer music(if this is what you play why are you even here?). These also last a rediculous amount of time. I've had these for several months now and I haven't even had to change the tips or sleeves even once. All in all, these are the best drumsticks you'll find out there!

Comments about Ahead Spug Mudvanye/Matt McDonough Drumsticks:

These sticks are the best. the other ahead sticks are to heavy but these have a perfect weight. The huge tip really allows the stick to bounce off the snare or ride. MUDVAYNE ROCKS!!!

Comments about Ahead Spug Mudvanye/Matt McDonough Drumsticks:

These sticks have done wonders for me. I wanted them initially because i was breaking too many sticks. At first i had an issue with the sleeves not lasting long enough but it became clear to me the the problem was in my technique not these sticks. I tightened up my technique and now they are flawless. They provide excellent attack and transfer minimal vibrations. If i could give it a 6 out of 5 i would.

        Nothing Short of F**king awsome

        By Nathan King

Comments about Ahead Spug Mudvanye/Matt McDonough Drumsticks:

I've been playing drums for over 15 years now, and have always used timber sticks from vaious manufacturers. A month ago a drummer friend suggested trying them out... I cant get enough of them. The response and attack is unbeleivable. In fact I've just ordered another pair because I can't stand having to use a traditional stick when I drop one during a track. Ahead is the future....
