Comments about Audio-Technica AT8202 Adjustable Inline Attenuator:

It's not a flashy piece of gear but it's made in Japan and from a trusted audio company. It's something every studio should have. What else do you want from an inline attenuator?
With most other attenuators (also known as pads) you are fixed at a certain decibel. This one lets you select 10, 20 or 30 dB of signal reduction. VERY useful!

I mostly use it on my hi-hat microphone since it doesn't have a built-in pad. Sounds transparent and does the job. What I like is I can set my preamp to unity gain and set the switch so it's hitting in the sweet spot, no more and no less.
Nice solid metal build. The switch stays put. It supports phantom power and you can plug it right into your preamp/console. I was going to take a point away because it's a little on the ugly/old-looking side but who cares? Made in JAPAN!
It's like having three attenuators in one!

Comments about Audio-Technica AT8202 Adjustable Inline Attenuator:

Trying to make Street Cube ( 2 actually )sound much better than factory , adding Shure SH55 ll Mic drivng a Helicon vocal correct. Helicon was overloading amp input BAD , couldn't even barely crack the volume knob - and Helicon's input was Well Below working level - No Green Light when singing . With this attenuator inputted to the amp , the helicons line level could be greatly increased and volumn knob on the amp operated with 10 o'clock being WAY TOO LOUD , but at least it was MOVABLE NOW at -10db , -20 was too much loss .. The very small system works way beyond my expectations on vocals now , due to improved input combination , sounds very professional . The Shure SH55 was bought due to previous feedback problems without the attenuator . This mix sounds excellent on the Street Cube with the vocal processor. Stunning vocals .

Comments about Audio-Technica AT8202 Adjustable Inline Attenuator:

I use this inline attenuator on a Crown CM311 wired headworn microphone. I am a singing drummer with a powerful voice that sometimes can overwhelm a headset microphone that's less than an inch from my mouth. The AT8202 Adjustable Inline Attenuator pads the sound at -10db at its highest level. That helps keep the mic from distorting. When I'm singing background vocals, by switching it to -20db and on occasion -30db, I can basically "work" the mic without backing out the mic because that's hard to do with a headset while playing drums. The one problem is that there is no 0db setting. so the sound man has a slightly harder time adjusting the p.a. for my voice initially. It starts at -10db.

Comments about Audio-Technica AT8202 Adjustable Inline Attenuator:

Works good. My only complaint is that it adds length to the microphone, so it can be slightly awkward to install in various locations. Otherwise, however, it works, and for a device this simple, that's all you need.
