OVERVIEW

From clean country to heavy levels of amp gain.

The DiMarzio DP240 Vintage Minibucker Mini Humbucker Neck Pickup is all about clarity, dynamics and lots of sparkle. In a word, the Vintage Minbucker has chime. It excels at clean country sounds, but it also shines with heavy levels of amp gain because it doesn't get muddy with a distorted amp.

The Vinage Minibucker Neck model performs equally well with crystal-clean amps or extreme overdrive. Although it is a fairly bright pickup, it isn't harsh-sounding and will also perform well in the bridge position of both solid and semi-hollowbody guitars. It has a well-balanced overall sound which allows it to work well in many different guitars and musical situations, and split mode produces a chimey, Strat-like sound. It's not quite as loud as a PAF, but it reacts immediately when a string is picked hard, and it cleans up when the volume is rolled down.

Both neck and bridge models are wax potted and include 4-conductor wiring.

Comments about DiMarzio DP240 Vintage Minibucker Mini Humbucker Neck Pickup:

I have gone through more neck pickups for my Telecaster than I care to admit. this one is just right, the description of clarity, dynamics and lots of sparkle are dead on. This also has significantly more sustain than most neck pickups that I have have tried. This would be a great neck pickup for any guitar that has a single coil in the bridge.

Great sound, but some routing may be needed

Comments about DiMarzio DP240 Vintage Minibucker Mini Humbucker Neck Pickup:

This went into the neck slot of my Telecaster. I'd tried a number of different pickups in it before, including the Duncan mini-humbucker, DiMarzio Area T Neck and some Strat Pickups. Nothing really sounded all that great. This pickup meshes perfectly with the DiMarzio Area T Hot I have in the bridge position.

For me, sound-wise, this seems like a cross between a PAF and a Tele Bridge pickup. Don't know how else to explain it, other than to say that especially the upper 4 strings sound great. The lower 2 strings can sound a bit mushy, depending on your picking style or location (if you play close to the bridge, you won't notice it). The only other complaint is that this pickup is larger than its Gibson and Duncan counterparts, and I had to do some pickguard routing to get it to fit. I feel like DiMarzio should let you know this before you buy the pickup.

Overall, if you're comfortable performing minor surgery on your pickguard, or have mounting rings that are large enough to accommodate this pickup, I say go for it. Great sound.

Comments about DiMarzio DP240 Vintage Minibucker Mini Humbucker Neck Pickup:

One of the all-round best pickups I've tried... now have one in a Tele neck position, two in a B-3 Phoenix and one in the neck position of an SG. Never liked muddy low strings on humbuckers and as another reviewer mentioned, these sound almost like a strong and meaty single coil pickup. If positioned close to the strings, they also sound good tapped, not too bright. These beat lots of expensive boutique pickups I've tried at twice the price. They hit a homerun with this pickup.

Comments about DiMarzio DP240 Vintage Minibucker Mini Humbucker Neck Pickup:

I finally decided to buy a mini after years of admiring the tone of greats like Johnny Winter and Allan Collins. Since I don't have lots of money to throw around, I went with this model and all I can say is, now I can't put my SG down! The thing just shimmers. It's almost closer to a single coil sound but with some of that humbucker meatiness.

I am now ordering the bridge version. I couldn't recommend this pickup any more strongly.
