OVERVIEW

Bright and easy to play.

Gauges 45-65-80-100.

Hi-Beam Stainless Steel Bass Strings from DR are roundwound and constructed upon a round core, which is unique in the industry. Hi-Beams require much more time, care, and extra steps to make than other bass strings. The extra effort DR expends making Hi-Beams results in a bass string that is highly flexible; musically bright without harshness; and strings that are renowned for unusually long life, consistency, and string-to-string balance. They don't eat your frets. Choose them for brightness and ease of playing. They fit virtually all bass scale lengths up to 37-3/4".

More musical than EB or D'ad

By Landon Arkens

Comments about DR Strings Hi-Beams Medium-Lite 4-String Bass Strings:

I had used Ernie Balls for the longest time until I broke my 3rd low E string in 2 years. I then tried out D'addaria Nickel strings in the same sizes and was surprisingly displeased by how much I noticed the lifelessness of them. Then I tried out these DR Hi Beams and am really pleased with how energized they make my bass sound. I've been playing them regularly for about a month now and they still sound very musical.

Comments about DR Strings Hi-Beams Medium-Lite 4-String Bass Strings:

Have used these strings for years and found them to be excellent. I play hymns at church. Their tone is full at the bottom and crisp at the top. And, easy on the fingers.

Comments about DR Strings Hi-Beams Medium-Lite 4-String Bass Strings:

I have always wanted to like DR strings so I try a set from time to time. Over the years I generally have settled with LaBella or Pedulla strings the latter being my preference. I had to order some other things from Musicians Friend so I ordered a set of these to try on one of my Fenders. Tone wise these didn't even compare to either the LaBella's or the Pedullas. For stainless steel strings they weren't very bright. The worst thing was that the "A" string was dead right out of the box. This has happened with other sets of DR's I have bought in the past. I have found them not to be very consistent. I ripped the DR's off and put on a new set of Pedulla's and I'm back in business. I've given up on DR. They have largely been a waste of money but more importantly a waste of my time!

Comments about DR Strings Hi-Beams Medium-Lite 4-String Bass Strings:

I stumbled across these particular DR strings 10 or 15 years ago and was hooked after buying my first set. I still use other brands on some of my instruments for specifc reasons not related to any issue with DR strings.

Over almost 40 years of playing bass I have tried about every string out there. I think there is probably something to like in all the brands, but I found the DR Hi-Beams to be unmatched for tone and useful life. I've never had a string break or give me any type of problem at all, regardless of the length of time I kept a set in service. They're a little bright out of the package (as new strings should be in my mind), they settle in very quickly and sustain their tone quality longer than any string I've ever played. As for fret wear, my primary bass is a Warwick with those signature brass frets and I've seen no problem at all (which really surprises me).

String reviews and discussion of tone quality are incredibly subjective. However, I think it's fair to say that if you like stainless round wound strings in general, you'll probably find a lot to like in these DRs and will ceratinly appreciate the unusually long useful life they provide.
