Comments about DW 6500 Ultralight Hi-Hat Cymbal Stand:

I play jazz, and wanted a lightweight, portable stand that would hold up. We'll have to see how it does over the long haul but so far I think this is a great stand for the right person and for the right use. Each foot has screw-style spikes that can come out enough to grab even the thinnest of rugs, or they can retract if you are on a floor that you do not want to damage. This stand does not go up a high as many, but if you way a 18 or 20 inch BD and sit medium to low you will be fine - no problem. The stand is light and folds up nicely. It is built very well and you can stop on it w/o fear of it falling over or taking too much abuse - it can take it. Another feature I like is that the clutch has a drum lug on the inside portion of the top cymbal that you can tighten such that the inside screw cannot work its way loose. Overall, I think this stand will be a winner for me, and I have a feeling it will last a good long while with proper care.

Comments about DW 6500 Ultralight Hi-Hat Cymbal Stand:

Got it to play bebop/postbop jazz with a little 4pc kit, and its EXCELLENT for that. It's lightweight, simple, sturdy, and has a flush base, which will make your cymbals sound better; more sustain, range, clearer bell.BUT: I started using it for rock, metal gigs where I was hitting really hard, really punishing this thing, and fell apart. Rubber feet come off, screws stripped, "baseplate" thing totally broke off. Also had minor beef with the heelplate being too thick, so its actually higher than the center of the pedal, which only became a problem when playing harder.Bottom line: this isn't a heavy duty stand, don't try to use it like one. You must have discipline to use it appropriately. Great for soft, cymbal-based playing.

complicated and poorly built

Comments about DW 6500 Ultralight Hi-Hat Cymbal Stand:

Spring tension adjustments are all or nothing... bad feel... hard to fold up due to uneven materials...rubber legs fall off all the time... velcro on base too strong making it difficult to move around on carpeted surfaces... many adjustments require a drum key... to expensive. AVOID.

Vintage look, modern quality

Comments about DW 6500 Ultralight Hi-Hat Cymbal Stand:

Great hi-hat stand. Huge improvement over the previous (2 legged) dw flat-based hi-hat stand. The only choice for a gigging drummer that wants the vintage look but modern, road-worthy construction. I toured for about a year and a half w/this stand and never had a single problem.

Comments about DW 6500 Ultralight Hi-Hat Cymbal Stand:

When I bought this hi hat stand I had two things in mind. First was completing my recent purchase of a pre-owned DW Jazz Series drum set with the appropriate hardware and second I needed to lighten the load. Carrying around heavy duty, double braced hardware was a struggle. Not only is the load much lighter, the cymbals sound and actually feel better. My guess is, the rigid stand was hampering the cymbals' movement thus restricting their sound projection and feel. So far I'm pleased.

Comments about DW 6500 Ultralight Hi-Hat Cymbal Stand:

Let me start by saying I am the perfect candidate to use this hi hat stand. I am not a heavy hitter, in fact I am often told to play harder. Never broken a stick, cymbal, or drumhead EVER to give you an idea.

Took this out and went to memory lock it into place right away so it would be the same height as my old stand. Turned it and it didn't even feel tight then SNAP! Broke the wingnut right off. Set it up to play and it wobbles a lot. Doesn't feel super sturdy. Unfortunately I am too lazy to return it and lucky for DW there is really not much competition for lightweight stands. Could've exchanged it for Yamaha 600 or 700 series stands but even those are 2 to 3 lbs heavier and I really just want something that folds up small and is super light. Disappointed on build quality.

Comments about DW 6500 Ultralight Hi-Hat Cymbal Stand:

I like this HH stand and purchased it because it is probably the lightest weight one on the market. I am still using my old HH stand from the 1960's which is even lighter, but on the fragile side. So need a back-up stand. I am a petit female and have a tremendous problem hauling and even lifting the newer double braced hardware. I am not a 300# Rock Musician and wish more thinner light weight hardware was being made today. ( for my jazz trio gigs) I recently purchased the DW 6000 series snare stand and am amazed at how light it is. Love it! An know I will enjoy this HH stamd as well. DW is a great company! I am also in the market for a decent light weight throne.....have purchased three in the last 5 years and the bottom of my current good and comfortable gig throne weighs 5 lbs!! Again, I don't need one that will support 300lbs. May have to resort to a cheaper single braced one with a not-very-comfortable seat! ( to save my back!)

Great stand, but not the best for double pedals

Comments about DW 6500 Ultralight Hi-Hat Cymbal Stand:

I got this a little while ago, and I love it, it is very sturdy and light. It is great if you don't like a whole bunch of stuff around your feet, but it makes you put the double pedal a little behind it, it wont make a difference if you only play with the double pedal, but switching would be a little harder.
