OVERVIEW

A solid aluminum pedal with unprecedented feel and many new features.

Industry-standard bass drum pedals have always been a DW mainstay and the Machined Direct Drive Pedal from DW is no exception. Packed with a slew of drummer-friendly features, the MDD is machined from solid aluminum and is the result of years of painstaking design and engineering. The ultimate goal is to offer players unprecedented feel and versatility, whether they currently play a direct drive pedal, or not.

In doing so, an Optimized Fulcrum Geometry linkage was developed to offer smooth, effortless action with just the right amount of beater throw. Other standard features include: a newly-designed, solid aluminum, perforated footboard with a contoured heel plate, interlocking Delta hinge, TBT (Threaded Bearing Technology) in the drive linkage and cam, Tri-Pivot swivel toe clamp, solid aluminum direct-drive cam with pivot adjustment, Vert (Vertical Sliding Spring Adjustment), Control beater with adjustable weight/impact, and more.

In addition, the double pedal offers a lightweight single-post auxiliary pedal and a patented AB (All-Bearing) zero-backlash universal joint.

Comments about DW Machined Direct Drive Double Bass Drum Pedal:

As stated in the title, this is literally the tippy-top of the high-end pedal market. I decided to treat myself to the MDD double pedal and Hi Hat stand to use with my recently purchased dream-kit. Only the best for my new lady. This is coming from someone who, since age 14 (currently 24), has used the same single-chain drive pearl double pedal. One of the pros which is also advertised by DW, is that this is literally the easiest direct-drive pedal a chain-drive user can hop on with miniscule adjustment period. The only thing you'll have to get used to is playing FASTER and more ACURRATE than you ever thought possible. I thought since I was having trouble getting consistent (20+ bars) 16th note double kicks at 160 bpm on my crud pedal, that I was going to have a rough time adjusting to this pedal.....WRONG. The years of unencumbered resistance from my old pedal paid off when you realize this pedal feels like it does the work FOR you. Little adjustment needed out of the box (and shnazzy case, at that), other than adding a little tension to the springs with the drum key, and correcting beater-angle difference. I didn't even take any of the beater weights off! Now I straight cruise the 16th note patterns and quick triplets/5tuplets with ease. With my old pedal: a 1-2 hour practice left my shins feeling like they were going to pop out of my skin; with this pedal, I practiced for 3-hours the day I got it, and had NO LEG FATIGUE. Ladies and Gents, if you can swing the dough, buy this right now. Innovative, made in the USA, and articulated yet smooth movement.

The only thing that I could nit-pick about this pedal is that the bottom is completely covered by rubber, which is all fine and dandy if you play on a hard-wood or concrete floor, but I play on a carpet. The pedal comes with little Velcro strips with adhesive, but after applying them to the rubber surface on bottom (it literally covers the whole pedalboard), it came off after not even 5 minutes. Doesn't detract tho!

Comments about DW Machined Direct Drive Double Bass Drum Pedal:

Hands down the best pedal I have ever owned. Extremely functional, durable, adjustable and unreal. I have owned everything from Pearl Eliminator Pedals, several Iron Cobras, DW 5000's & 9000's and this pedal is seriously everything I could ever ask for. Opening it up was like finding the Holy Grail. Thanks DW!

Comments about DW Machined Direct Drive Double Bass Drum Pedal:

Just received the MDD double pedal. I don't normally write reviews but these pedals are just too sweet to keep silent. They are extremely well made and I took a chance by taking them out of the box at a gig. After about 5 minutes of tweaking the numerous & relevant adjustments, I found my sweet spot. I have owned/played; Demon Drives, Axis, Iron Cobra, Speed Cobra, DW 5000 & 9000 and many others. These are simply the best pedals I have every played. They are like gloves for your feet. Yes, they are pricey but now I feel they are worth every penny and beautiful to boot! Let's not forget that they are made in the USA too. Nice work DW!!

Comments about DW Machined Direct Drive Double Bass Drum Pedal:

This pedal is pure nirvana! Fully adjustable and works perfect at every adjustment (both ends of the spectrum). I am not going to explain any further why this pedal is great because you don't need to when everything is perfect across the board.
This pedal is as ground breaking as the first release of the iPhone! History making pedal, hail DW and thank them.

Comments about DW Machined Direct Drive Double Bass Drum Pedal:

This is hands down, the best kick pedal I've ever used. It is smooth and lightning quick. It practically plays itself. Yes, it's pricey, but in my opinion it's worth it. I feel like the term 'infinitely adjustable' gets thrown around a bit too often about certain products. But it definitely applies for this pedal. But the truth is you can pretty much pull it out the box and you'll be all set. I have sworn by DW pedals ever since I was 18 years old. I've played the 5000, the 3000, the 9000, and now this. I cannot imagine they will ever top this. This is a thing of beauty.

Comments about DW Machined Direct Drive Double Bass Drum Pedal:

Having three extremely good pedals (trick pro-1v, dw 9000 and the Malleus pedal), I had to reason with myself quite a bit to motivate buying this pedal. I am glad to be able to say that it blows the other pedals out of the water. It's not radically different but just so much better at everything. Smoother, more direct, sturdier, and above all, enabling you to play a lot faster and more controlled fast strokes. Also, it seems to make the strokes more powerful so that you can play more heel down. we all secretly want the smaller underdog company to make the best product but this time DW outclassed itself. It seems difficult to top this one. Only one problem now, selling the other three and buying another of this one.

Comments about DW Machined Direct Drive Double Bass Drum Pedal:

I have to admit, the price really turned me off and I actually complained about it on YouTube. I was able to shave a some of the cost off by purchasing one that was lightly used. Yes it's price is up there but, the first thing I was thrilled with was the fact that it was manufactured in the USA and the quality was definitely there. The 9000 serious isn't even made in the USA and the difference is very noticable. DW improved everything on the machined direct drive double pedal and it is the best feeling pedal I've ever played. It doesn't come with a hard shell case, but the canvas case is very nice and accomodates for the pedals, accessories, manuals and extras. If you own and like the 9000 double pedal, you will be blown away by the direct drive. The price is the main reason for making the decision to purchase the direct drive difficult but as we all know, there are some snare drums out there that far surpas that price. I would recommend trying to save up and swing it if you can. You won't be dissappointed.

Comments about Machined Direct Drive Double Bass Drum Pedal:

These pedals are incredibly smooth, and the direct drive only helps promote that smooth strike. The design and customization is on a different level when compared to other pedals. One can dial in seamlessly and the settings are repeatable since they have indicators.
One major dislike, and a reason for the 4 stars is the width of the slave pedal plate. It is too wide so that I can't have a smaller distance between the pedal and the highhat. In addition the pedal plate is completely covered by rubber, so adding on any velcro would compromise it's ability to stick on a hard playing surface.
