I installed this speaker in my 1978 Silver Face Fender Vibro Champ. There were no clearance issues, and it sounded great. The frame is very beefy. It has closed-cell foam where the frame meets the cabinet (it's a rear-mount only type of speaker). The magnet is so strong that I had a hard time keeping my tools from sticking to it. The speaker connections are the slip-on type, so hooking it up was a cinch. There are 8 holes in the frame (I only used four) so that you can angle it any way you choose (clearance issues, short wires).

I'm very happy with it. There's none of the low-end flabbiness that the stock speaker had. Thumbs up.

        • 8" Speaker Upgrades

Comments about Eminence Patriot 8" Lead/Rhythm Guitar Speaker:

Every claim the Eminence makes for this speaker is accurate and true. It eliminated the "boxy" mid focused tonality of my amp, opened it up considerably at both the high and low end, and gave a smoother overall sound throughout it's tonal range. It truly does sound far more like a 10" speaker than an 8". It's also extremely efficient and holds its own very well when paired with higher wattage 1x10" amps. I can't imagine any other upgrade that could do more to improve amps with stock 8" speakers than this will. It's well worth it's price.

        • Small 5 Watt Amps

Comments about Eminence Patriot 8" Lead/Rhythm Guitar Speaker:

In the small tube amp category, (Fender Champ, Bugera V5 etc.) To keep prices down, the speakers are usually of lower quality and efficiency. Usually in the 88-90 db/watt/meter range. This speaker is advertised as 96 db sensitivity. Volume wise, it almost doubles the perceived volume of the amp. Tone wise, it sounds great! Good definition, tight bottom, very good projection.

Comments about Eminence Patriot 8" Lead/Rhythm Guitar Speaker:

I use my silverface Champ for home practice at lower volume with pedals (Wampler Tweed '57, Hall of Fame reverb) & this speaker's a great choice. Strong volume and solid bass. Doesn't sound exactly like fitting a Champ with a 10" speaker--not quite as full--but it's a nice upgrade nonetheless. I don't know what vintage amp the guy had who didn't have success fitting it, but there's no problem with a 1974 Fender Champ.

Comments about Eminence Patriot 8" Lead/Rhythm Guitar Speaker:

Purchased this to do an upgrade on the Mustang 1. Fit with no issues, sound has improved. Happy with the purchase.

One might ask why upgrade a inexpensive amp with speaker over half he cost of the amp? I pondered that as well for a few days, reality is what I like about the Mustang 1 is ease of moving it around, taking it to practices and so forth. I have a couple tube heads with a cabinet, sound is better, but the older I get, the less I want to carry.

Along with security, who would risk theft over a cheap amp? I can leave this little inexpensive amp anywhere, with out worry someone is GASing over a low end amp.

Comments about Eminence Patriot 8" Lead/Rhythm Guitar Speaker:

I replaced 8" speakers in my Roland Street Cube Ex, Easy enough to do (had to solder four larger clips because half of the original speaker clips are the small size- I assume to make it easier to not mess up assembly). The speaker is slightly larger than the plastic cavity for the stock speaker but if you seat them at the bottom first and then tighten the top last it is still good enough of a fit that the metal grill goes over fine and they work great). Greatly improved the bass response and overall quality of a pretty good original sound.

Just fits into a '76 champ. This was a big improvement over the stock speaker & a different aftermarket speaker. It has a smoother top and and much more bass response. It made the amp sound "bigger".
