Comments about Ernie Ball P02814 Super Slinky Flatwound Bass Strings:

Best strings I've ever played since (73) made a new bass out of mine.
These are not your Daddy's flats. They are for a brave new world with Lots of sounds that to need to be gotten from a single source that would be the the cobalt flats.

Comments about Ernie Ball P02814 Super Slinky Flatwound Bass Strings:

These strings are a joy to play!! Out of the package they sound a little brighter than other flatwounds. They are super smooth and really make playing fun. I am waiting to see how they mellow out over time and how long they last. They definitely have a little more modern of a tone compared to other flatwounds, and you also get slightly more sustain than others I tried. I have these on a 1998 MIM P bass and love the tone and feel that I get from these strings. I would definitely check these out if you are a flatwound player wanting to try something new, or if you want to make the switch to flats and want something that still has the characteristics of a round, but with the feel of a flat.

Comments about Ernie Ball P02814 Super Slinky Flatwound Bass Strings:

These are by far my favorite strings. I had used roundwounds from 2002 up until around 2013 or so except for on one bass, which I strung up with flatwounds. Once those flatwounds broke I tried these out, which has resulted in me stringing almost all of my basses with these. I've tried two other brands of flatwounds recently and the tone between individual strings in those sets have been dramatically different. So far I haven't had that issue with the Ernie Balls.

I'd say these strings have fairly low tension for flatwounds, and have a slightly brighter tone.

Comments about Ernie Ball P02814 Super Slinky Flatwound Bass Strings:

These strings don't come close to the punch of chrome round wounds. But they are super fun to play. I found with quite a bit of adjusting on the amp I could get a sound I could live with.

Comments about Ernie Ball P02814 Super Slinky Flatwound Bass Strings:

Compared to Chromes, these have less tension and are more consistent. I had issues with the E and G string of the Chromes sounding dead compared to the A and D. I've only had these strings for about a month, so I'm not positive how long they last. If their lifespan is decent, I'll definitely move from Chromes to these.
