Comments about Fender Pure Vintage '64 Telecaster Pickup Set:

I got these to replace the stock pickups in my MIM telecaster. Even though the guitar already sounded good, it had a tendency to get a little muddy on the low end with big chords and such.

The first thing I found nice about these pickups from an installation standpoint was the cloth wiring -- much easier to work with than the plastic stuff. Instead of having to strip the wires back and possibly damage your copper, with these you can just scrunch the sheath back easily as far as you need to.

Sound wise, I was and still am very pleased. After getting a fresh setup and lowering the pickups to where I like them (I keep them low on all my guitars, just sounds better to my ears) I was blown away. The tone is VERY bright. If you are swapping more modern pickups with these, be prepared to adjust your EQ for significantly less treble. I've also gone from favoring the middle position for clean tones to heavily preferring the neck pickup for its warmth, which is very Strat-like. All around, the bottom end is well defined and not muddy at all with a nice thump. For overdriven tones I love the middle position -- still thick but with a lot of that tele bite that's so sought after. Sometimes I'm even reminded of those boxy Hubert Sumlin Killing Floor tones.

To summarize, if you like brightness and clarity with just enough warmth, and if you have an affinity for vintage Fender tones in general, I would definitely recommend these to you.

Comments about Fender Pure Vintage '64 Telecaster Pickup Set:

I tested both pickups right out of the box. Both are supposed to read 7.4k ohms. The neck pickup is around 7.8, and I'm delighted about that, but, the bridge pickup is about 6.6, and so now it's in a pile of other pickups that I will need to add wire to, because I want my bridge pickups a little hotter. I'm not impressed with Fender's quality control for this kind of stuff.

Comments about Fender Pure Vintage '64 Telecaster Pickup Set:

Replaced the pickups in a Squire Telecaster with Fender '64 Pure Vintage pickups. They totally changed the sound quality. The Squire Telecaster I have has always been a great playing guitar, but the sound left a little to be desired. Not any more! This thing screams after the change. It also has that vintage Telecaster twang. If you are looking to upgrade from standard pickups, these will not disappoint.

These are excellent pickups in my opinion and the price is reasonable. I currently have my MIM Telecaster loaded with a pair of these and I lov'em.

Comments about Fender Pure Vintage '64 Telecaster Pickup Set:

A funny thing happens when you finally get around to getting a quality amp, in this case it was a Fender Blues Deluxe Re-issue, which has some amazing clean tones. One of those things that happens is it will reveal to you any failings of what ever pick ups you are using. The stock PUps in my 2007 MIM Tele were clearly lacking. Decided to re-do my guitar by replacing the parts for vintage styles and went with these Pups after listening to every demo online I could find.

I am not going to lie, from the demos these were my second favorite, but these were 50 cheaper than the Nocasters that will go in my next build. However I do not regret buying these in any way. I use a Tele primarily for that famous bridge twang and these do not disappoint in any way. Add a healthy dose of spring reverb and a light touch of drive and you have some very awesome old school outlaw country sounding attitude. And the neck and both Pups together sound absolutely great as well, but I just to use them as much.

These Pups put my Tele back into the #1 player spot.
