Honestly, I've never put much thought into a guitar cable. Unless the cable has a bad connection and is scratchy, you just plug it in and play. I've always bought medium quality cables, such as this one, and honestly can't tell a difference between this and a more expensive one anyway. All of that came to a crashing halt upon trying this cable for the first time. The cable is 20 feet long if it weren't coiled up. If I get more than two feet away from my pedalboard, this thing will literally rip my first pedal off of my pedalboard, despite some strong, well placed Velcro.
This cable made me yell, scream, scream at the top of my lungs, cry while laying in the fetal position, and eventually laugh manically from temporary insanity.
The icing on the cake... I paid with paypal, which means that I can only return it and have to pay shipping both ways out of what I paid for it. I bought this as a Stupid Deal Of The Day (apparently I'm the stupid one for buying it) for almost half price, which means that there would be nothing left except for this curse lifted off of me. A small price to pay, but still not what I had hoped.
Instead I'll keep it for personal protection, or perhaps put it on a tiny boat, push it out to sea, and light it on fire with a flaming arrow. Either way, I DO NOT recommend purchasing this cable unless you are already in therapy or just need to practice your anger management skills.

Comments about Fender Vintage Voltage Coil Straight-Angle Instrument Cable:

I'll continue the 2 star trend.
This thing isn't even close to 20 foot long (I don't care how much you stretch it). After gently massaging and easy pulling, and stretching, and over-all taking the stiffness out of the coils....I am lucky to get 10 feet out of it.
The cable DOES look really cool, and is built really well...but stop trying to sell it as a 20 foot cable---it's not about how much cable it takes to MAKE it...it's about how much USEABLE cable is there for the purchaser (yes, I physically measured the USEABLE cable, and it's 10 feet before you start popping the jacks out of the amp or guitar). Glad I only paid nineteen-ninety nine for it on Stupid Deal Of The Day instead of the thirty-five it is advertised for today---because it would have been sent back.
I'll keep it and use it---but I won't be more than 10 feet from my amp when I do.
Can't recommend this one people; sorry.

P.S.- If this was advertised as a 10 foot cable, I would have no problem giving it 5 stars, because it IS a strong, well built cable that looks fantastic....but it's NOT a 20 foot cable, and never will be; and that ticks me off.

Save your money

By Gollum

from Tinley Park, Il

Comments about Fender Vintage Voltage Coil Straight-Angle Instrument Cable:

Don't waste your money on this. I bought it on the Stupid Deal of the Day at 1/2 price and wasted 80% of my money. Only use for this chord is if you have a mini amp that hangs from your belt. Best use I can imagine would be as a bungee chord. Extremely light weight. Connectors are what you would find on budget low end cables. This is definitely an idea gone wrong.

Makes great gag gift!

By harry

Comments about Fender Vintage Voltage Coil Straight-Angle Instrument Cable:

Give this overly heavy duty, tightly coiled "20 foot" guitar cable to a fellow guitar or bass player in your band and watch the hilarity as he tries to walk away from his rig while his guitar gets yanked off his chest. Or, better yet, he gets pulled backwards and falls. Oh the laughs!
I do believe this would work well as a tow cable. Keep it in your trunk.for emergencies.

Comments about Fender Vintage Voltage Coil Straight-Angle Instrument Cable:

Very well made instrument cable. Coil design eliminates the lose cable from becoming tangles in feet or other equipment. The coil is very strong and therefor will pull small amps around while stretching.

Comments about Fender Vintage Voltage Coil Straight-Angle Instrument Cable:

Now it is a quality made cable, yet it's lifespan is questionable due to the tension that it bears on the jacks. If you are plugged into pedals, don't move much or have the pedals secured big time, because this cable will drag them right behind you. It's just that rigid. I hope it lose some of the tension strength soon. Perhaps it was the goal of the design to serve people who don't move very much. If that's you ? then this is for you because it looks great, and it is very solid. I'll recommend this cable to stationary friends.

20 ft?

By tethered

from atl, ga

Verified Buyer

Comments about Fender Vintage Voltage Coil Straight-Angle Instrument Cable:

Would be a good cable, but 20 ft is generous. You would have to hook both ends to tractors and pull in opposite directions to make this thing 20 ft. Functionally I can plug one end into my guitar and the other end into my amp and stand right next to it. It's wound so tight if I move I'll pull the amp over. I'm not complaining, I got it on SDOTD and will find a use for it, but don't get this thinking you can plug your guitar into your pedal board if you're over 4 feet tall.

Comments about Fender Vintage Voltage Coil Straight-Angle Instrument Cable:

Good enough quality cable, but is more realistically usable for 5' maximum. I was disapointed in lenght after reading it was a 20' cable. Maybe 20' total but could are tight and springy Andy not like vintage coil cables.

3 ft when retracted, only stretches to 6 ft, tops. Nowhere near the advertised length unlike many other coiled cables that I own (Lava, VOX.) Totally happy with the quality; just disappointed at the lack of reach.

Comments about Fender Vintage Voltage Coil Straight-Angle Instrument Cable:

I play standing close to my amp but with a lot of movement. The coils hang nicely in the air and keep me from stepping on a longer cable. I can venture out 10-15 ft if need be and no strain. Sounds as good as other high quality coils I have tried. Very satisfied. Would recommend.

It's not 30 feet long

Pros

  • Good Quality

Cons

    Best Uses

Comments about Fender Vintage Voltage Coil Straight-Angle Instrument Cable:

It's got about 6-feet of usable length, and it's tightly coiled and fairly rigid.
It's a good quality cable, with excellent build. Your music will sound good with this cable, but...

Wouldn't you buy a 30' cable expecting to be able to walk around with your guitar? Wrong with this cable. It only stretches out if you really pull hard, harder than you might think. Maybe it would work if your effects pedal and amplifier were rigidly bolted and glued to the floor. Then maybe you could pull on it hard enough to stretch it out. But Why? So, there is no need to ever own this cable because it's just as functional as a 6' cable, but with all the extra weight of the cable windings. You don't need that extra weight, so don't buy this cable. Buy a regular straight cable instead.

I gave it 3 star, because the build quality is excellent, the idea of this cable is good, and maybe you can find a use for it.

Comments about Fender Vintage Voltage Coil Straight-Angle Instrument Cable:

Only 5~6 ft long in real life. The build quality is decent, and hence it's heavy and unfortunately difficult to stretch. If you are thinking about coil cables, get something lighter and more flexible.

MF would charge original & return shipping both ways if I return it. Well OK I had to keep my two sets. DON'T buy this cable unless you try it first. You've been warned.

Comments about Fender Vintage Voltage Coil Straight-Angle Instrument Cable:

I have a Fender Princeton that I like to keep covered. I also hate having to search around for a cable, or having a long, trailing cable underfoot. I don't gig any more so I'm usually playing within easy reach of my amp, so I don't need a lot of length. With this cable, the angled end lets me leave it plugged in when the amp is off and the cover on. When I remove the amp's cover, there's the cable, ready to go. And because it's a coil, it is never underfoot or tangled. Perfect for my need.

Bought this on a stupid deal. The only thing the low price did for me was make me not care about sending it back. There is a cold solder on one of the connections, and the signal cuts in and out, volume changes significantly. Poor quality control on Fender's part. I'll probably just resolder it myself. Other than that, it's a very heavy duty cable and does keep from getting tangled up with all the other cables running around my floor during practice or recording sessions (the purpose I bought it for).

Comments about Fender Vintage Voltage Coil Straight-Angle Instrument Cable:

I don't understand the attraction to the coily cables that seem to be the trend (other than nostalgia and perhaps organization). IMO the Cons far outweigh the Pros.

Coily cables (unless made very thoughtfully) can create problems that straight cables don't have: Coily cables can be very heavy and pull down on the guitar since there is so much cable material used to create a coily cable. The length of coily cables also can create pull on the guitar which is frustrating. Admittedly, you do gain a measure of cable organization due to the compact nature of the coily cable - and this one is well made - Yes, they look cool but just don't think they are a good solution for most situations. If they were lighter, maybe but if made well, they are very heavy.

Got this on a SDOTD because I remember when all guitar cables were like this. This cable is too short to be useful anyplace but sitting on a combo amp with guitar on lap. Looks good in photos. I got two because vintage tone requires vintage gear. I just completed a total guitar upgrade using the new tone paint on tone wood with tone caps, pots and pickups. This cable has improved tone making it more open and vintage sounding.
