I first saw muters on a Stu Hamm seminar video, & was impressed with their simplicity & efficient design. These particular items work well, & stay where you put'em, and are easily slid above the nut when not needed, although they work better on 3+3 tuners than 6-on-a-side tuners. They were more expensive than I would have liked, but I can imagine they'll last quite awhile, offsetting their cost.

These are best used to cut the high frequency overtones that result from playing legato lines and two-handed tapping using the bridge pickup in a high-gain situation. I've noticed a dramatic difference in the top three strings which seem to generate the most overtones and noise if left un-muted.

Understand that these mute the strings you are not playing. They do not silence them. That is to say they do not let you get away with sloppy technique. If you're picking motion is too wide and you strike the adjacent string you will certainly hear it go "thwack". If anyone is considering this as a solution to cleaning up their technique - sorry, it ain't gonna happen.

My biggest gripe about these is the cost. For a 3-pack, it's really steep in my opinion. There's nothing ground-breaking about the design or materials. It's all pretty basic really. If Planet Waves or Jim Dunlop came out with similar wraps I think there would be a dramatic drop in price. I have a feeling Gruv Gear has patented this thing up the ying-yang so I'm not sure how likely that is to happen in the near future. Only time will tell.

Anyway, if you play a lot of legato and/or you're a two-handed tapping monster who's frustrated by high frequency overtones and sympathetic string noises, these might be for you. If you think the price is worth it that is.

Comments about Gruv Gear FretWraps String Muters (3-Pack):

    2 stars - 3 stars is average.

    It's OK.

It didn't dampen the strings as much as I expected it would. I played with various tensions on 2 guitars and 1 bass, and it wasn't damping much more than what I would get with a light palm mute. That could probably be improved if I moved it higher up the neck, but I think a better solution is out there.

I also wasn't keen on the plastic piece slipping around on or potentially scraping my lacquer necks, so I will probably put these on the shelf until I need them.

I've been playing guitar for 23 years.

Comments about Gruv Gear FretWraps String Muters (3-Pack):

These do exactly what they claim to do. I've been experimenting with different hair bands (as in ponytail bands, not Twisted Sister or Poison), but could never find one that muted all of the strings. These string mutes do an excellent job, and will make recording a much easier process.

My only beef, and it's a big one, is that they are way over priced. I guess I shouldn't complain since I laid out the money voluntarily, but i was desperate.

I got these after seeing guys Keith Merrow and Ola Englund using them. I use them behind the nut of my guitars to stop the excessive ringing that occurs due to hard picking and stops. These things have improved my sound alot and I would totally buy more of them.

Comments about Gruv Gear FretWraps String Muters (3-Pack):

I like these, for both my guitars and my basses, but they'd stay on better if the "fuzzy" side of the velcro was used on the body of the muters, rather than just attaching to the material; on my guitars with full neck carves, they do come undone.

I would recommend these provisionally, with the understanding that you'll have to either modify them or continually refasten them.

These mutes work well but are way overpriced. I use them on a 6 string Warwick bass but they do no properly slide back over the nut. But nevertheless useful for cutting sympathetic tones in studio or otherwise.

Comments about Gruv Gear FretWraps String Muters (3-Pack):

I was looking for a way to augment my string muting on my 4 string PJ. Some songs I play are virtually impossible to mute and play them clean at tempo. I was toying with the old school sponge under the strings just in front of the bridge technique, but once you put a sponge under there, you only get one type of muting, and it looks stupid. I asked my son who is a 7 string shredder what he uses. He recommended the fret gurus. I bought a 3 pack of the smalls, and they fit nicely on the neck of my 4 string PJ. I can adjust the amount of muting from zero by sliding it up over the nut and onto the head stock and it stays put while playing. An added benefit to putting it there, is that it cuts down on undesired transients from around the nut. I can slide it up the neck to any position I want and adjust the amount of pressure on the strings to get the level of muting I need. I can adjust it to where it just barely touches the strings, to get a very small amount of muting with most of the sustain intact, to lots more pressure that results in that cool pop of the old R & B tunes. This product shines during recording as it really cleans things up. In my opinion it is a valuable tool. It is NOT magic though, Using it still requires good technique, it won't fix sloppiness on your part.

After I finish a song I can slide these up and it keeps the strings muted to keep the strings from ringing or moving when moving the guitar around or accidentally plucking them.

I use this to dampen my acoustic guitars hanging on the wall. Keeps them from ringing while I play electric.

                                They work as expected.

They are handy for cleaning up solos by muting open strings. Finger tapping is much cleaner. Mostly a studio thing for me. I don't use them live. These work well and are easy to put on and take off. My only gripe is the cost. Velcro cable ties work and you can get 100 for much less.
