Comments about Hamilton KB550 Double Bass Stand:

A modified version of this stand (with shorter support brackets) used to be sold with Azola electric upright basses. I own one of those, and a K&M 14160. The K&M is built like a tank: heavy, rigid - definitely a safe place for your EUB. Yet I prefer the Hamilton. It's light, folds small enough to fit my bass flight case, and it's naturally springy in the way it supports the bass. Some players, like Pavel Molina, even play their bass while on the stand.
At a third of the price of the K&M, it's a great deal. It did need some maintenance: at one point the cup that holds the end pin broke off, and we had to replace the rivets with nuts and bolts. And of course the plastic feet disappeared. Still I like it enough to buy a second one for my baby bass.

Comments about Hamilton KB550 Double Bass Stand:

After I ordered this, I found it cheaper at another online store, but I stuck with Musicians Friend, as they are reliable, knowledgable, and keep a great stock of nice products. I had been searching for a good choice to hold my EUB for quite a while, and this stand kept popping up. Sure there have been some negative reviews, including one in which the bass fell off and hit a piano, causing damage to both. If you examine the end pin cup, it's very apparent why this would happen. There are two small rivets that hold all the weight of the instrument. Since I work next to a shop that does off-road upgrades to jeeps and other vehicles, I decided to be proactive and have them add welds on the undersides of the cap itself. Now I can be assured that my bass will stay securely in the stand whether playing or storing. I may also add a security strap under the fingerboard around to the rubberized padded arms that hold the back/top of the instrument. To sum it up, it is the best and cheapest option out there, whether you choose to "upgrade" it or not.
