Better intonation and playability while maintaining the vintage tone of your Telecaster.

Joe Barden American Standard Tele Bridgeplate and Saddle Kit for Telecasters solves all of the structural problems and intonation issues inherent in the original parts. The heavily plated Bridgeplate is made of the same material as the original, but slightly thicker, making the plate less prone to unwanted squeal.

Using the originally spec'd material ensures that the vintage tone and slightly microphonic nature of your Telecaster will not be lost. In addition, the Bridgeplate features a Danny Gatton-inspired scoop at the front of the treble sidewall, a tremendous aid to fingerpickers who find the sidewall obtrusive.

The Bridgeplate has two additional mounting holes at the front edge to provide secure fastening at all four corners. Use of these mounting holes is optional.

Which one do I need, the Vintage or American Standard bridgeplate?
Two models of the Joe Barden Telecaster bridgeplate are available; Vintage Style (see our SKU# H71205) or American Standard Style. The two bridgeplates are NOT interchangable and selection of which one to use is dependent on where the mounting and string thru holes are on your particular instrument.

Both Joe Barden bridgeplates have 4 mounting holes at the rear. On the American Standard bridgeplate, just IN FRONT of the 4 mouting holes are 6 string-thru holes where the strings come thru the body. In contrast, on the Vintage bridgeplate the string-thru holes are just BEHIND the 4 mounting holes and closest to the rear wall of the bridgeplate.

The Saddles
The Joe Barden saddles (3 come with the Bridgeplate Assembly) are also made to vintage specs, using the brass material, but have their adjustment holes drilled at three different angles to provide correct intonation for all six strings, each of which requires a different saddle position.

As an added feature, the outside saddles are notched under the "E" strings, like the vintage '53 saddles. This notch helps correct the "loud outside string" problem common to many Telecasters, and adds additional height adjustment capability, while retaining an important and authentic vintage design spec.

Like Joe Barden pickups, these components are direct retrofits for vintage, or American Standard styled Telecasters and similarly made guitars. Installation requires no modification to vintage instruments that would otherwise alter their unique vintage character.

  • Original material for vintage tone
  • Scooped for easier fingerpicking
  • Thicker for less squeal

Improve your Tele with this perfect fitting bridgeplate kit.

Great bridge, but no "drop-in"...

Comments about JBE Pickups (Barden) American Standard Tele Bridgeplate and Saddle Kit:

I would do it again, and as a matter of fact, I will this next weekend. But this is a JOB and not a plug-n-play item that you would be lead to believe! You WILL drill holes in your guitar. I'm okay with this and have installed many Bigsby units, bridges, routed for pickups, etc. It's not rocket surgery, but know what you are getting into.

Overall, I love this bridge, and the 2011 American Standard that I installed it on plays and sounds amazing...and a real improvment over the stock bridge. If you are feeling handy, or lucky...go for it!
To begin, I've played Telecaster guitars for over 27 years. I' have had to learn how to perform most of my mods because I don't have the luxury of "going down to Guitar Center". Over the years, I've learned much about what works and what is just fluff.

With that, I trust the "Joe Barden" name when it comes to Telecasters. I also have complete confidence In Musician's Friend. I recently added a couple of American Standard Telecasters to my Tele collection, and these are the BEST out-of-the-box guitars that Fender has ever offered!! Truly amazing. The bent-steel saddle bridge design really is an improvment over the previous American design, and sounds great, but a little too much like a Strat, IMO. But that is never how I wanted my Telecasters to sound.

This Barden bridge offer eveything traditional Tele players are asking for...raised (traditional) sides, compensated barrel saddles, and the "Gatton cut" for us finger-pluckers.
Here is what I can't figure out...

American (modern) Telecasters are mounted with three screws. This bridge mounts with four (you're gonna drill your guitar!) Keep in mind, the most expensive, boutique bridges are the same way.

Also, the front holes (those that are optional, according to Barden) don't line up with the factory holes. I set the two outside screws (the two middle ones still need to be drilled) then sank the one front screw thqt lined up. I used a toothpick to "fill" the other hole, then drilled a new one. Count them now...three new holes in my $1300.00, brand new guitar!!
Compare what else is available, if you want to turn your "modern" Tele into a more familar tone machine. This ones is all the quality but way cheaper. And if you see what you're up against and choose to back out...Musican's Friend will have your back if you choose to return it.

Comments about JBE Pickups (Barden) American Standard Tele Bridgeplate and Saddle Kit:

I received some pretty bad mounting screws with the bridge. I bought new screws like the stock ones and installed the bridge. You have to drill the two center screws and fill in the front ones and re-drill. Initially, I mounted the bridge with no drilling to see if it improved the sound of my 2009 American Standard. It did improve the sound, clearer with better string balance. It's mounted permanently now. Get better rear mounting screws. They were a buck fifty nine for half a dozen stainless steel #8x1" oval head Phillips.

Wasn't even close to a fit

Comments about JBE Pickups (Barden) American Standard Tele Bridgeplate and Saddle Kit:

Bought this as a replacement for an American Standard. The reviews indicated some drilling would be necessary, which was fine by me. However, this piece wasn't even close. My guitar would require substantial modification to make it fit.

Comments about JBE Pickups (Barden) American Standard Tele Bridgeplate and Saddle Kit:

Replaced the bridge on an American Nashville Tele B-Bender with great results. I had to "create" a hole for the bending B string, but it was worth the time and anxiety on drilling on a brand new bridge.

At the same time I installed the Joe Barden Modern Tele set of pickups. I've got a great "New" guitar!!!

Thanks to Tyler for the online chat and great price!!!
