Comments about Ludwig Atlas Classic Hi-Hat Stand:

Let me cut to the chase. I like it. I am pretty enamored with Ludwig's new hardware. I would buy it again. It is light, stable, and the action is smooth. There are only 2 minor issues:
1. If you are a short or slouchy drummer, you may need to buy a pipe cutter (which is cheap). Because of how the spring mechanism is tightly packed in there, the height can only get so low. Again, a pipe cutter and 30 seconds fixes this.
2. I'm totally into the multi-height rubber feet on the atlas classic hardware (to aid in positioning). However, the hi-hat would never use the "upper" hole in the rubber foot, but it still has these huge rubber feet, making it a little bulkier on fold-up.

Still, I like it a lot. It was worth buying. Very gig-able.

Comments about Ludwig Atlas Classic Hi-Hat Stand:

This fell short 1 star because it doesn't have a tube clamp/memory lock for the upper tube. Ludwig has ALWAYS had one for their hi-hats since the late 60s, why they decided to leave it off this stand I have no idea, but I'll be looking for something, I don't want to see the tube slipping down during a gig & the memory feature is very important, especially on a hi-hat.
I also got 2 of the Ludwig Atlas Classic straight cymbal stands at the same time & all 3 were covered in a thin layer of grease. After cleaning it off with rubbing alcohol & paper towels (don't forget the inside of the clamps!) they all work beautifully. Now you might think some grease is good & it is, in the right place, out here in the desert it acts as a dust magnet, scratching the tubes & reducing the clamping action. So make sure to clean them off.

Don't take this stand on gigs.

Comments about Ludwig Atlas Classic Hi-Hat Stand:

The rubber feet on the stand detached from the stand several times on gigs, destabilizing the stand. I had to crazy glue them onto the metal legs of the hi hat stand so they wouldn't fall off on gigs. The stand completely fell apart on a gig only 3 and 1/2 months after I bought it. The connection from the chain to the footboard completely broke. Don't use this hi hat stand on gigs, and if you do, make sure you have a backup hi hat stand. I only used mine for gigs, but maybe it would hold up as a practice stand you keep at home.
