I have used it for 5 months and have been so pleased that I am considering giving them as gifts. If you have ever tried to write notes on a pile of charts at rehearsal as the stand slowly sinks down under your arm you will love this. Every aspect of this lock is what I expected. only minor complaint is that it's a little tight to lock/unlock so it takes two hands I gave it a solid 4 out of 5 just because it has to live on the road for a while earn a 5.

Bought 7 of these things. They're ALL too tight, even unlocked, making it VERY difficult to adjust height. A couple of them were so tight (unlocked) I had to try several different music stands to find one with which they'd move at all. At least they do hold securely when locked. Another would not install tightly to the stand base no matter how hard I tightened the mounting screw; again with trial and error I was able to fit it to ONE of our stands.
Further, WHY would you make these things so you have to turn them counterclockwise to lock? Never heard of "Lefty-Loosey/Righty-Tighty"? Extremely unintuitive, and especially liable to misuse/damage by the mix of 60-80 nonprofessionals who will be using them here on a regular basis.
Finally, I asked for feedback from our musicians and have already heard from one professional musician who has experience with these things that they don't function for long and start slipping (locked) fairly quickly. Hopefully, the fact that they're currently almost too tight to use now will forestall this failure mode a bit…

Comments about Shaft Lock for Manhasset Music Stand:
We have a clarinet quartet. This device is being used on our Manhasset Voyager stands. Our books - 1.5" - are very heavy - about 150 arrangements. Maybe...10-12 pounds. These locks are rated at 75 pounds. We're not going to test that theory. It's the same as the Voyager stand lock, just one that comes off. Takes a few extra seconds to set it, but it's completely worth it! Did a gig with it this past weekend and for the first time in years, I did not have to re-adjust my stand!

Comments about Shaft Lock for Manhasset Music Stand:
This shaft lock works great. My "book" weights about 7 to 8 pounds and my Manhasset stand could not hold it up. No problem now. It's easy to use and hardly noticeable. Great price too.

Comments about Shaft Lock for Manhasset Music Stand:
I play a lot of gigs from heavy, bulky gig books, so squatting music stands have been a life-long problem. I bought 3 of this item, one for myself, and two as gifts for musician friends. Everyone is delighted with it. Installation is fairly easy, and once installed the shaft-lock engages and disengages with a simple 1/4 twist of the device. Be advised, though, that installation of the shaft-lock requires use of screwdriver and wrench, and involves partial disassembly and re-assembly of the stand, so this is not something that you could expect to easily remove and take with you. You should consider it a permanent part of the stand after installation.

Comments about Shaft Lock for Manhasset Music Stand:
I have a conductor's Manhasset stand. With the weight of music and books, the stand would not hold and stay in place. The shaft kept sliding! I was about to purchase another stand, when this small devise caught my attention. Let me say, this devise solved my issue! For a rather small investment, I am able to keep my stand!

Comments about Shaft Lock for Manhasset Music Stand:
My stand will now hold up a three inch thick book of 11x14 inch scores. Even with the lock "unlocked," somewhat more force is needed to adjust the stand height than without the lock. For me this is a plus; my stands have custom made, heavy (more stable, nesting) bases, and we can now pick up them by the top without worrying about the base sinking away on its own. The locks seem durable; my first lock still works great after a year of regular use, and all six of my stands now have them. More recently, I used music stand shafts with these locks in making portable stands for cellos and contra-clarinets; the locks keep the two sections of the extended shaft from twisting relative to each other when holding the instrument, but still allow easy shortening of the shaft for portability.

Comments about Shaft Lock for Manhasset Music Stand:
This works great to lock the stand height on a Manhasset stand. I was having real trouble with my folding Manhasset, which I use on gigs, dropping down under the weight of music + mute holder and mutes. The stand lock takes care of this problem completely. I think it should be part of the standard stand and not just an add-on...

Comments about Shaft Lock for Manhasset Music Stand:
Our worship team is VERY pleased that our stands no longer slide down during worship! Cost-effective solution for otherwise perfectly good stands. One of the eight we ordered doesn't work properly.
Wish we had had these back in middle school band, when we seemed to always have the high school's hand-me-down stands . . .
