I have played in a worship band for the last 10 years and have always struggled to keep the acoustic set from being overpowering. A couple years ago our new worship leader suggested these "rods". I have used all of the Pro-Mark rods and have found the Lightning rods to be the best. They take the edge off just enough so you can still play with power and passion and won't get people in the congregation complaining about the drums! These rods give you enough punch and power so the sound of the drums and cymbals still ring out just enough. A tip to keep them lasting a bit longer.....coat the end of the rods with some Polyurethane. Try them and you'll love em!

I bought the lightening rods drum sticks because the regular drum sticks were too loud for our church ensemble. My 9 year old grandson plays the drums for us, and others were always asking him to tone it down. I felt badly for him because it is difficult to play loud enough for him to hear himself and know he's on beat, but soft enough not to over power the strings and woodwinds. I was looking for something that would encourage him to continue to participate, but not over power. I thought he'd like the name of the drum sticks because they would sound strong and powerful, but have a lighter sound with the same bounce he's used to. I was correct, he loves them and enjoys playing with them. He continues to keep them in the original plastic, "carrying case" to keep them clean and new looking. It was the perfect gift for him and the rest of our ensemble is appreciating them as well.

Comments about PROMARK Lightning Rod Drumsticks:

I used these after someone from my church gave me some hot rods which broke easy and within a few weeks were gone, but these are awsome because i play pretty hard at times and they are much quieter than your average drum stick. you also can do some fun snare rolls with them because they give a good accustic tone.

Anti-Fatigue Sticks

Pros

  • Anti-fatigue
  • Easy To Use
  • Good Volume Control
  • Increases Speed
  • Reduces Vibration
  • Whip Rim Shots

Cons

  • Muted Hit
  • Poor Quality
  • Wood Splinters

Best Uses

  • Practicing

Comments about PROMARK Lightning Rod Drumsticks:

Volume is reduced by sticks absorbing the force when hitting a drum or cymbal. This provides a drummer to play harder, without increasing volume…perfect for smaller venues and rehearsals.
Because of the bundling of dow-rods, vibration is also absorbed. The plastic wrap provides good gripping when playing, especially when sweating.
Life expectancy of the sticks is short. The dow-rods splinter and break easily.
I have tried Lightning rods, cool rods & thunder rods. Same results on all, just softer or louder volumes.

Comments about PROMARK Lightning Rod Drumsticks:

I'm impressed that these Lightning Rods hold up as well as they do. I mainly use them for practices when my band is huddled up in a small room, and I don't want to deafen my bandmates. I'd used hot rods (much thinner pieces) in the past, and they disinegrate quickly. Before showing any damage at all, I got in about 15 hours of practice, and I'm sure I only broke a piece of one by hitting a cymbal stand wingnut. They rebound pretty similarly to a stick, so there's not much functional loss.

    Totally Awesome

Comments about PROMARK Lightning Rod Drumsticks:

I play several types of music. I found that no matter what type of music I play I can always find a way and a place to use them. They are soft enough for playing praise and worship music but durrable enough to play rock. They are great I highly recommend them.

Comments about PROMARK Lightning Rod Drumsticks:

The Promark Lightning Rods are the right size for everything. They are the perfect thickness, width, length, and weight. Yes these do tend to break more than normal sticks, but if your looking for a lighter sound or maybe you need to play quieter at a gig these are what I recomend!

Comments about PROMARK Lightning Rod Drumsticks:

I got these a while ago and broke one of the dowel rods the next day. I put these in my stick bag for a few days, and then I had nothing to do one day and gave them another shot. I played with them for at least and hour and a half, not one more broken dowel rod. I still use them about everyday when I get yelled at for being loud and only a few chips.

    Very surprised

    By Craig b

    from baxter, TN

Comments about PROMARK Lightning Rod Drumsticks:

I purchased these to tone down my playing for a new band I started playing with. I must admit my surprise at the quality of these "sticks". At first I thought they would be very fragile, however they have withstood about a month and a half of practice sessions. I have since ordered the various sizes of these rods to try them out. The only down fall is the price, but even at that I will keep of pair of these in my stick bag.

    Perfect for lighter volume situations

Comments about PROMARK Lightning Rod Drumsticks:

I love these sticks. I normally play metal, but have been expanding my horizons to include lighter music, and these sticks are perfect. They still provide a great sound, but at a muffled, lower volume that doesn't overpower the acoustic guitars and vocal harmonies. They break after awhile, but that's understandable since they're made of thin dowels. They're not meant for heavy hitting. These have become my only playing sticks.

I've always stayed away from Hot Rods and other products such as this, but lately, I've had to reconsider due to my current snare of choice. I use one of these in my left hand and a regular stick in my right. It seems to do the trick for controlling volume. Not sure how long they will last, but seem to be fine so far.

My kit is hot, so it's nice to be able to dial back on he output While still be able to hit the heads and cymbals.
It's Nice they have different thicknesses for different styles of music
I don't sounds good On my cymbals as my nylon tip sticks, but it's not bad

If you want to contain your volume without sacrificing drive in a sensitive setting, Lightning Rods are the way to do it. The thick construction of the individual rods go very far to transmit attack. It's the very best that you can do to convey cymbal sound with this type of stick. They're stupendous for an auditorium church setting.

Comments about PROMARK Lightning Rod Drumsticks:

These have given me the sound that I was looking for in smaller settings. I can play with the same intensity as with regular sticks and not drown out anyone. I still wrapped the end with electrical tape about 1-2 inches from the end for a more solid sound. They also play well on the ride. The only con is that they do not have the rebound as regular sticks.
