These rings. Oh my these rings. I just want to rave about them for days. Although these say they are produced by Remo, they are really created by god himself. God has his little Remo Muff L Ring Control workshop and he builds these just so he can show his love to us drummers.
If you like Punchy, Bassy, overtone-less, studio sounding drums, then these are for you.
....
Even if you don't want that, buy them anyway because you must not know what amazing drums sound like(;
I've been playing drums for 3 years and have been looking for a solution to the bad overtones coming out of my off-brand drum kit. A friend showed me these rings and I played a bit on his kit (which he had the Remo Muffle Rings on each of his toms) and I was amazed at the sound coming from his (he has an off-brand kit as well) drums! It sounded more like a studio kit than anything. I ended up buying these for my 13" tom and 16" floor tom and I'm basically in tears - they sound so good!! You would never guess my kit was an off brand kit from listening to these toms - Punchy, Bassy, and with no added overtones. These rings are highly recommended - I can assure you that if you buy these there is no way you can be disappointed! They're magic!
As many others have said, the plastic ring is a little bit shady but they should hold up seeing as how they are under your drum head and surrounded by foam so there is little to no chance of them breaking. And if they do, they're dirt cheap so just buy another one! hahah
These rings are from god.
This goes without saying, but they are such a good deal! These Remo Rings make your kit sound amazing and it's the easiest thing to install ever and if you have clear drum heads they look siiickkk!

Bigger is better
Seems to work better on bigger drums such as base and floor toms. Rack toms were way too muffled and choked out.

Comments about Remo Muff L Ring Control:
I can't say I am exactly a hard hitter, and I use a single ply head on my kick. I use a 20x22 and it sounds incredible. Some complain about how it can completely dead the sound, and if that is a concern of yours, make sure your resonant head is tuned properly, because you can still achieve amazing overtones and still dampen your batter. Great sound, I would recommend to anybody.

Comments about Remo Muff L Ring Control:
These will completely change the sound of your drums and quiet them down a little too. I like the sound they produce, especially in the larger drum sizes. The 22" kick, 16" 14" 13" 12" all sound really good but the 10" and 8" loose everything and I didn't like the sound the smaller ones made.

Comments about Remo Muff L Ring Control:
Great way to upgrade a cheap drum set. Changes the sound of the drums from hollow and airy into deep and full. I feel like it is the perfect upgrade for novice/intermediate drummers like myself. SUPERB value!

My drums sounded like expensie tin cans with these on. I took them off and threw them away.
On a side note, they work pretty good on my bass drum.

Given the vast variety of opinions of where and how to use these, I'll simply state what I've used the product for and how it worked for me. I have a standing gig in a VERY small venue for which I assembled a "jungle kit" consisting of 12x5 snare, a HH, and a floor tom converted to a bass drum. When struck with the beater, the drum rang like a gong. This product made it sound more like a bass drum. The resonant head still rings a little, and I may get another for it. The venue is VERY small, and I can only play with brushes or hot rods. for making a floor tom sound like a bass drum, the product works.

Comments about Remo Muff L Ring Control:
I have a gretsch catalina jazz kit with evans G1 heads and I bought the 12" and 14" for my toms and it did exactly as i wanted for both. I did have to remove the foam from the 12" as to balance the amount of muffle on the smaller drum. After reading the negative reviews I would have to say the effectiveness of these rings depends on what shells as well as drum heads and size of the drums used. It seems the bigger the drum the better sound. But they are a lot more convenient being attached and hidden rather than remo-o rings or moon gels.

Comments about Remo Muff L Ring Control:
These are a must for a bass drum. I have been using them for years. Gets rid of the ringy overtones and adds a little more low thud. They are ok for toms but will kill the pitch, I recommend the dead ringers that just lay flat on the heads if you have ringy toms.
My only two complaints are; the foam falls out with heavy use when mounted on the bass, easily remedied with a little double stick tape or light glueing.
Number two: the plastic ring will break from over tightening the bass hoop but it usually takes at least a year or more.
Comments about Remo Muff L Ring Control:
I've been playing for over 25 years and have always had a pillow stuffed in my bass drum. I just replaced my 22" bass head from a Remo Pinstripe to a Remo Coated Ambassador and placed the Remo Muff L ring on the batter. I tuned the batter head about medium tension and the resonant head loose to achieve the fat low end sound. I put a small pillow back in the drum and it sounded awesome. Then I took the pillow out and it sounded even better! If you are looking for a thunderous bass drum sound that will cut through the band pick one of these up for you bass drum. My band noticed the difference right off the bat that the back beat of the bass drum was fatter and deeper and they loved it as well. You'll still get a very nice tone from your bass, but no ring and it is a breeze to install. I can compare it to the sound of John Bonham's bass drum. No more pillows!!!
Comments about Remo Muff L Ring Control:
They sound great. Just need to fix the problem with the kick
Makes the drums I have put these on sound great
Not sure how long these will last, the tray seems like it may not last too long...BUT, I have had no problems with that yet. The only problem I have had with this is the one I put in my bass. The foam comes out of the tray. No problem with the one I put in the floor tom. Guessing because the floor tom lays flat and the bass is vertical. I will be ordering more for the toms to see how they work all the way around, but probably won't be buying anymore for the bass if the problem doesn't correct somehow
I like the cheap price. Wouldn't pay a ton for these due to the cheaper plastic tray
Comments about Remo Muff L Ring Control:
just got these and some ec2 coated heads and they sound amazing the rings take out all the over tone and give the head a really punchy and short sound def worth the money. if your thinking about getting them get em!!!!
Comments about Remo Muff L Ring Control:
I put this on my floor tom to kill all the junky overtone. I have a worthless first act drumkit and now it sound like a ludwig!!! I would highly recommend this for toms that have a long annoying overtone. I am mad that this site doesn't offer more sizes. But other than that, if Remo's control rings cant kill the overtone, these will.

Comments about Remo Muff L Ring Control:
These rings are much different then what I have used in the past. Difficult to install, the thick plastic would not allow for proper drum tuning. I ended up taking them off and making my own muffler system.

Comments about Remo Muff L Ring Control:
Nothing I tried previously had worked anywhere near as well as these since the eighties when I first discovered these. No more gel globs, floating drop ring muffles, duct tape or external muffles needed with these rings. I remove the foam ring personally because you will completely deaden the drum using the ring and the foam insert, in my experience.

Comments about Remo Muff L Ring Control:
These are the best I've found to get rid of ugly overtone and ringing in the drum, yet allow nice resonance and tone. I purchase a really junk set of drums some years ago for one of my kids with the project of fixing them up. They came with a set of these already installed, and I left them there. I liked the solid sound they made without the "extra" noise. The bottom heads were missing and I always wondered what they would sound like with the resonance heads in place. NOW I KNOW!!!
I have tried moon gel, tone rings, tape, more tape, and still the struggle of getting just the tone I want. Maybe I'm anal retentive about this, but I know what want. I was originally going to purchase these for my new PDP set (still a cheapo, I know) but was talked out of it. Finally I have found Nirvana. After taking off all the other "helps" I placed these under my Evans (equal opportunity employer) heads and instantly had the sound I've been chasing all this past year. Great project.
And by the way, you can tune them by the amount of foam you place in the rings, it can be cut into sections. Folks, for me, these work extremely well. Thanks for reading.

Comments about Remo Muff L Ring Control:
No 22" bass drum should be without the 22" REMO Muffler as it provides a nice slightly deadened "thump" to the bass drum without giving up pedal response and without the need for blankets or pillows inside the drum itself. Because it actually lowers the tone of the drum, the tighteners can be brought up to good response tension (nearly 80 on DrumDial tension level). This takes away the need for moon gel or other parasitic dampeners added to the rim. I have one on both my practice set and my gig set on just the beater side - but may try adding one to the outside single-holed projection head as well just for kicks. They are not expensive and actually allowed me to reuse my old bass drum head I was going to change out - but it sounds so good now I don't have to.

Comments about Remo Muff L Ring Control:
I see drummers out playing and they will have a dozen or so blue gels on there heads, one ring will do the job, studio sounding drums playing out live. So you tell me what makes more sense.
