These things are by far the most metal thing i ever heard in my whole life! Ive been through EMG's and other Seymour Duncan's, including the Blackouts, and these are by far my favorite pickups I've ever used.

I own a blacktop tele, naturally, wanted to switch out the stock pups. first set was an EMG 81/60, then the Kerry King EMG set, then a SD distortion/'59 combo, SD invader set, SD JB/'59, whew. All amazing pickups, but just not the sound i was looking for.

Then I heard about the Black Winters. Preordered them, had to try them out of curiosity, beyond blown away! My tele is a beast unlike any! The clean tones are very crisp, articulate, and just wow! I can still get a good tele tone out of these on the clean channel! I can even get AC/DC,Journey tones with this things. And of course, they just blow my mind on the Metal setting. Amazing distortion tone; perfect saturation, powerful crunch, ballsy 'umph' behind them for sure. They're perfect for thrash metal if you're looking for something powerful yet not too muddy. That's where the Black Winter wins: powerful, ballsy "umph" yet not too muddy.

Extremely impressed with the Black Winters, easily one of Seymour Duncan's best.

This isn't worth 100 bills first off. This is just an average pickup to me....nothing special or bad about it. The seymour duncan distortion is a better pickup for metal of any kind and its about 30 bills less in price. I think people buy into the cool name but hey, its not a bad pickup if you want to find out for yourself. Just don't use it on an alder wood body like my Charvel San Dimas. I went back to my distortion set and it sounds so much better.

Comments about Seymour Duncan Black Winter Humbucker Electric Guitar Pickup:

I got a Dean Thoroughbred Deluxe that came with a DMT Equalizer in the bridge. The pickup was decent for what it was, but definitely not for metal (amazing clean tones though). Just not enough crunch. Enter the SD Black Winter. Holy mother of metal this thing is awesome. All the crunch and clarity that I get from my EMGs or SD Blackouts, but then theres the warmth you get from being a passive. Actually sounds better than the EMGs. Hard to beat the Blackouts, but they are right up there with them.

I tried the Sh-15(Too harsh) and Sh-5(too weak) on my Schecter S-1 Elite, but this pup nailed it. You can get that awesome full-on distortion (Tony Iommi) or back it off for more clean tone. Very impressed. No sizzle, just a evil wall of uncensered sound.

Comments about Seymour Duncan Black Winter Humbucker Electric Guitar Pickup:

Had been looking for a new pickup set to replace the stock Duncan Designed pups in my Schecter S-! Elite. Those were decent but had a tad too much bass-y chunk to them for my taste. I wanted something with a more even EQ and happened upon these Black Winters. Wow! Couldn't be happier. These things are loud, aggressive, and articulate. Running through a Line6 Spider, every note is crisp, even and distinct even on insane distortion. The clean channel is actually CLEAN!

These are just great all around. I play mostly metal type stuff and these are built for that, but just rolling the volume back or toning down the distortion level, even just picking more lightly, these could probably be used for many different styles.

These are fantastic if you play high gain guitar. I wouldn't say they are great for clean tones but they're pretty good. Killer for rock, metal and melting faces. Pair with a high gain amp and you're in metal heaven. Pretty awesome.

Comments about Seymour Duncan Black Winter Humbucker Electric Guitar Pickup:

Very hot pickup, but you're expecting that. What surprised me is how warm they are when you back off on the volume. Much more versatile than I expected. Best for heavily saturated tones, but great for classic rock and blues as well. The volume pot is your friend.

Comments about Seymour Duncan Black Winter Humbucker Electric Guitar Pickup:

This has to be the best pickup I have ever tried. When a friend of mine had them installed in his ESP I was blown away how incredible they sounded for a super high gain pickup. No mushiness and warmth at the same time. I then decided to order them for my Gibson Les Paul Standard and they sounded incredible, but the kicker was their versatility. Lower your volume knob and you can play Classic Rock, lower a bit more and you are now in Blues territory. All of this with warmth and rich in harmonics. I call them the Swiss knife of pickups. Don't be fooled into thinking that they are just Metal pickups, they are much more.

Use them as my pickups in my Jackson/Floyd Rose. If you got an Eddy Van Halen Wah or compressor you're packing enough heat. I gotta Metal Pedal too but when I connect that, its complete overkill. I use that only with my non-overkill-output guitars. Ciao Ted

Comments about Seymour Duncan Black Winter Humbucker Electric Guitar Pickup:

I have a PRS, which is good for a wide range of styles. But I had been looking for a second guitar that was heavier when playing with distortion. I bought a BC Rich with EMG's, which were close to what I wanted, but not quite there (and the problem of having to replace batteries). I tried the Nazgul and Sentient set in my 8string, which are nicer than the stock pickups... Which is why I chose these for my 6 string (suggested via the Seymour Duncan website). Hard part of installation for me was drilling the hole for the bridge ground. Installed easily (as long as you are capable of soldering), and wouldn't have taken as long if I hadn't needed to replace pots and a broken selector switch. My biggest fear was ambient buzzing with distortion, but luckily I got the grounding right. I also omitted connecting the tone pot to the circuit, so it's only there for convenient grounding. The pickups sound great, and I find myself playing this guitar more than my others, when I want to practice with distortion on. Clean tone are acceptable, though not what I bought them for. I would buy them again if I build my own guitar. I purchased the set.

Comments about Seymour Duncan Black Winter Humbucker Electric Guitar Pickup:

It's good enough IF you're replacing a stuck pup. It sounds identical to a EMGHZ. It has decent chugity chugity chugity sound. You can hit harmonics and all the other things too. But if you're replacing a aftermarket pup it really has no tonal differences that set it apart. It is a high gain metal pup. So..... if you're replacing a stock pup it's great, replacing a aftermarket, eh not so much
