Solid pickup handles big chords and difficult arpeggios with ease.

With the rise of Progressive Metal, Seymour Duncan wanted to offer a bridge pickup specifically for 8-string guitar players that could evenly accentuate every note on the fretboard no matter how much gain was thrown at it. The Pegasus uses an Alnico 5 magnet and custom-designed coils for tonal balance and moderate output. Huge chords and complex arpeggios are equally perfect. Bridge only. Designed to be matched with the Sentient neck. This 8-string passive version has a black metal cover. It's best with bright to semi-warm woods (from maple to korina) with either maple or rosewood fingerboards.

Comments about Seymour Duncan Pegasus 8-String Passive Guitar Pickup:

I put the Pegasus in the bridge of my custom Agile Intrepid Pro. The bridge was a generic ceramic pickup that was just fine until it stopped working. Instead of re-wrapping and re-potting the pickup; I chose to replace it with the lower gain Alnico 5 Pegasus. Now Ceramics are very clear and bright pickups. The Alnico 5 with the copper cover would have induced an Eddy current to "muffle" the sound a little bit. It made all the difference in the world for me. 8 string passives are a hard one to find a good balance between the bass and high frequency separation. This pickup reduced the output enough and increased the usable sustain for the high register. This pickup really helps reduce the bass from taking over everything else. Perfect for lead playing and not ice picky in the slightest. Very warm and very clear pickup. Pinch harmonics are perfect with this pickup. This pickup is probably close to PAF tone and gets super sludgy with the tone rolled all the way off (in a good way). The only bad thing I can say about this pickup is the the signal to noise ratio is a bit higher than Ceramics. The increase in noise is about 8% compared to the dead quiet Ceramic that was in prior. Conditions also apply to if it's even noticeable (mostly at ultra high gain with more treble). In my opinion an active pickup is better for 8 string guitars, but this is a great option for those who need the balance and note separation. Lastly if you are changing pickups for an Agile guitar that has passive pickups you need to get the uncovered pickup. I re-routed the pickup cavity to fit this one into the guitar. I was worth it since it was just slightly too big horizontally. Keep in mind the covered pickup will sound much different than the uncovered pickup. If I had too guess the uncovered version would sound more punchy, but I can't say for certain. I like this pickup a lot because having too much gain on an 8 string guitar is difficult to wield. This pickup is a must have for the "old school sound"
