Overall i love this seymour model,it has a P.A.F(59er) type tone but with more output, growl and harmonics
it cleans up to a sparkle when you back off the guitars volume knob. The clarity/definition is amazing on these and it almost has a single coil like attack to it. The demon is a very unforgiving p'u so if your playing is sloppy it will stand out just like if you play very precise it will shine. the name is misleading it is not a paint peeling metal p'u like a EMG 81. it has a little more output than a P.A.F but has a very aggressive tone. you can play through the most slobbering gain and it still has definition!
Alnico 5 magnet, 10K resistance, resonant peak at 7.0khz, six adjustable screws and six hex head polepiece. Available is regular or trembucker spacing. Made in the USA by master pickup wizards Seymour Duncan.

This is a cheaply-made, over-priced pickup that isn't hot enough to have both the words 'screamin' and 'demon it its name. Everything on this pickup is cheap, and flimsy including the way the coils are mounted to the chassis. Thin, hard-to-work-with wiring is another minus. Sound-wise, though it has much more warmth than the stock 490T it replaced, it still managed to maintain a trebly harshness that is just annoying. This over-priced loser has since been replaced with a DiMarzio Virtual PAF which is way better made, and sounds a ton better too.

Comments about Seymour Duncan SH-12 George Lynch Screamin Demon Humbucker Pickup:

It makes me want to write a review only when the product or is amazing or awful, in this case is amazing!I finally found the Bridge sound I was looking for, the sound of this pickup is amazing! If you dislike the SH-4 JB on your guitar because is too bright, too many Mids, Nasal and useless, this is the pickup you're looking forWarm yet Open and Clean sound, Great Sustain, plenty of Harmonics! perfect balance between Highs and Lowsand the coil split it perfect, great single coil sound, very useful for any song! I have a Jackson USA Soloist SL2H with alder body with a Neck SH-1 59Model 4-conductor, and the split coil gives me great Strat/Tele tones! I love It!And if you are a Shreder you will not be disappointed, this pickup has enough power and definition to play fast runs, sweep picking, agressive soloing, Heavy/Thrash Riffs, etc.

Comments about Seymour Duncan SH-12 George Lynch Screamin Demon Humbucker Pickup:

I bought my screamin demon many years ago. I read other folks' comments about it sounding thin and weak.. I bought a stacked single coil before, the yngwie malmsteen one, I installed it and it sounded like POOP...... I returned it Mars Music and got a different stacked single coil, and, the same thing... Thin, weak almost like I had a wahwah pedal on.. I followed the schematic for installing both pickups and they both sounded horrible. Finally I asked a guitar tech/luthier for advice.. And he said that I had to switch around the red and green wires differently from the schematic. ......... Boom. That fixed everything... Balls galore... With my screamin demon too!!

      Great pickup

      By Anonymous

Comments about Seymour Duncan SH-12 George Lynch Screamin Demon Humbucker Pickup:

I have tried a multitude of pickups and until recently had never tried the sh12. I own a Pearly Gates and a '59 which are in my Strat. And I have a JB in the bridge of my Jackson. The teacher at my music store swears by this pickup so I tried his strat, and was blown away by this pickup. It does just as advertised, it fat and punchy with great highs and lows, and a neat kind of airy midrange. It cleans up with your volume control, and if you love to shred it will let your technique shine through. I just recently installed one in our teacher's Les Paul, and it sounds great in it as well. I have been a Lynch fan for a long time and have loved his tone (even before the sh12 when he was using the cutom wound SD distortions) and can tell you that this (along with his technique and rig) is an integral part of his sound, Just be sure you match the right wood to this pickup. so far I've installed iit in a maple neck strat, and a Les Paul and it sounds great in both. I'm getting one for mine. Also check out George's website, he's alot busier than you think.

Comments about Seymour Duncan SH-12 George Lynch Screamin Demon Humbucker Pickup:

This pickup is very trebely, has very stingy sharp tone. But along with all that treble comes definative clarity. This pickup has a good balance of studio clarity and meaty tone, it gets percise distortion with no feedback or muddiness. Great pickup for mesa-boogie players who live for deifinative tones and who don't want to sound like Yngwie.

Shrill and thin sounding with no bottom at all

Comments about Seymour Duncan SH-12 George Lynch Screamin Demon Humbucker Pickup:

I have tried this pickup in 2 guitars, one all maple body and the other mahogany with a maple top, same result. Shrill, flat, tinny sounding like a really bad single coil. No balls or sustain whatsoever. This is the worst sounding humbucker I've ever played. I'm a big fan of SD pickups, most of my guitars have them. Maybe it works good for lead, for chords it blows.
I would advise not purchasing this pickup unless you have a chance to actually hear it in a guitar at walk in music store. People seem to love it or hate it. A player on a forum summed it up for me. "Sounded like crap, yanked it out of my guitar and threw it in a box. And it made the box sound like crap too!"
Allen head screws for pole pieces and 4 conductor wiring for coil splitting and other wiring mods.
As bar as build goes, it's a quality pickup. SD builds great pickups.

Comments about Seymour Duncan SH-12 George Lynch Screamin Demon Humbucker Pickup:

This is the only hum bucker I'll use for the bridge position of an electric guitar. All of my guitars have this pickup. I like MEDIUM-output pickups, and that's what the Screaming' Demon is. Its quiet, does not squeal when turned up loud, and sounds excellent. Some inexperienced players see the name "Screaming' Demon" and mistakenly assume that it is a super high-output pickup, and then are disappointed (With today's super high-gain amplifiers, why in the world does anyone think they need a super high-output pickup in their guitar?). If you're not getting good tone with this pickup, it's because either your amplifier sucks or your guitar sucks (or both)...

Does exactly what it says on the tin!

Comments about Seymour Duncan SH-12 George Lynch Screamin Demon Humbucker Pickup:

Way back in 94 I bought a brand new Jackson JDR94 and immediatley had the bridge pickup replaced with one of these. Absolutely beautiful pickup, gives you all the bass and high end response you need, sweet harmonics and all you could desire for metal back then. Cut to 2009 and I have again picked up the guitar after a 10 year hiatus, this time round I am more of a blues type player and I have recently purchased another JDR94 from ebay and slapped one of these in it and YES it is GREAT for the blues, sweet and warm very quiet, just back off the volume and it is very civilised, crank it and it will rip your head off. Also a point to note for anyone who actually uses the tone knobs on the guitar "The tone ACTUALLY WORKS with this pickup"Thoroughly reccomended pickup

Comments about Seymour Duncan SH-12 George Lynch Screamin Demon Humbucker Pickup:

I,ve been playing Duncans forever. I have mostly JB's in my guitars, which I think is the perfect pickup for which all others are compared to. I'm a Lynch fan and have heard this pickup in his model guitars and thought sooner or later I would try it. I just got an 89' Fender HM strat with a single humbucker and a Fender TBX tone control. I put the pickup in and it was a perfect match. Even though this is considered a medium output, I think it is as hot as the JB. The tone is amazing! I can't describe it. It is the perfect blend of highs and lows. The harmonics jump out, just as described. I most impressed by the way this pickup cleans up when you back off the volume. I am completely blown away by this pickup. Anyone who has Dimarzio Breeds should throw them away and get these.

Comments about Seymour Duncan SH-12 George Lynch Screamin Demon Humbucker Pickup:

Slapped it in the bridge of an '89 Peavey Tracer (poplar body, maple neck, locking trem, Fender Texas Special in the neck), and this pickup really allows your personal dynamic touches to speak! The initial attack (fingers or pick) sounds markedly single-coilish, which I appreciate very much after trying hotter pickups, e.g. the stock pickup (which died) and an old Super Distortion. These pickups made more of a "squawk," while I was looking for a "kerrang"--if I need squawk, I step on a TS set as a dirty boost. I wouldn't say that the mid frequencies are scooped; I consider them neutral. Just a great-sounding pickup that doesn't try to do too much except add a little raunch, some highs (compared to hotter pickups), and great harmonics. Oh, and I did order the trem-spaced version even though my Tracer has an angled pickup cavity. Pole pieces line up perfectly--if you're neurotic about that stuff like I am. Peace n love!

Bought this when it first came out and am still...26 years later...amazed at the sonic beauty! Harmonic depth and richness even through solid state gear. It can sound like uggh through a junk amp...but why drop a knot on a pickup and run it through a piece of trash. Downside? I think the bottom end needs to be tighter. If this pickup had one coil that was output matched ceramic...it would be exceptional. My 2¢…

Thought George Lynch had great sound. He obviously did not use this pickup in any of the classic 80's albums. NO DISTORTION AT ALL. Sound is much lower than all other pickups in my other guitars, needed to turn my amp up to 4 just to hear it. (100w stack) I would try the DiMarzio Super Distortion Pickup if I were you.

This pickup is great, some inexperienced players may pass off the top end as being harsh, but that's just their lack of control with a pick. This pickup is very smooth and vocal if your chops are up to the task. Leads scream, rythym shimmers and grinds. One of my favorite SD pickups. The cleans are simply amazing.

I bought my first screamin Demon in 1990 and put it in an Ibanez RG570. I do read a lot of reviews, but after hearing one I had to get it. This pickup in combination with a Peavey Triumph 120 is the fattest, squealinest combo I've ever heard. I attribute malcontented reviews from improper installation. This pickup is not meant for clean .. it's meant for down and dirty. I am surprised that the George Lynch name has stuck to this product for 20 years since he hasn't really done much for a while. Someone must like it. Definite Buy.

Comments about Seymour Duncan SH-12 George Lynch Screamin Demon Humbucker Pickup:

This pickup is like the the dimebucker but in my opinion its a lot better. I recently replaced my dimebucker with the demon into my Jackson DK2 and the demon screams way louder than the dimebucker. Its true that the dimebucker has super output but the bad thing is it can easily distort the clean channel. The demon is just like the dimebucker only its a lot cleaner sounding. The dimebucker is good but it becomes too distorted when playing on rythm. The demon however sounds good on either channel. If anyone ever gets a chance to pick one of these up go for it. It's worth every penny.

This pickup is a great pickup for many reasons. First it screams when pushed so if you want clear glassy highs this will do a better job then any other pickup I have played or owned. Bass response is a little less then I would have thought but is very punchy so you just have to use more of the pick to get that punchy bass out. Features...Does everything you would need a pickup to do.Quality...A little cheesy looking on the sides...but who looks at those after it's installed?Value...Good if you need a crazy top end pickup this one is for youOverall...Very awesome overall sounds great can be adjusted to fit need.
