Like others, I noticed how the bolts kept coming loose and making the chair wobbly. I just kept tightening them and went on. It never occurred to me that the bolts were actually stretching until one broke and sent me crashing to the floor. Close examination of the bolt revealed that it had actually stretches into and finally broke in half. The4 other bolt was badly bent also. I replaced both bolts and have not had any further problems. But that only been a couple months ago. I've had the throne app 4-5 yrs with no other problems. its relatively comfortable and the backrest adjusts nicely to make you sit up straight and not slump over as I often do w/o a back rest. One note about the bolts is that Tama has a bulletin on their website about the bad bolts. They know about the problem. It makes me wonder why there was no warning sent out to owners of the product. When I fell I took out a bifold door behind me and was sore for several days. My 50 something 250 lb frame doesn't bounce as well as it once did. What would have happened if I had been on stage with a riser of 2-3 feet or more. Or worse still, a balcony or the top of a stairway. You know they put us drummers anywhere they think we can fit (-:. Tama has a potential liability suit on their hands and I'm surprised they didn't take it more serious. Thus my lower rating for poor customer relations

If you're thinking of buying it, try to sit on it in the store first. I'm not sure why this throne has recieved so many good reviews. I bought into all the online reviews and was excited to get it but was dissapointed the longer I played in it. Everything about the design of the throne is nice except for the seat itself - which is half, if not more, of the reason for buying. The seat material is pretty stiff and the cusioning is way more firm than other reviews have mentioned. I'm not sure cushiony is the right word at all for this seat. It also positions you to lean a little too far forward and unless I sit pretty far forward the shape of the saddle hits underneath my legs exactly where I don't want it to. Some of this should be kind of obvious from the pics but again I bought into the reviews. The hardware is nice and sturdy and it folds perfect for road use but damn ...that seat.I guess it's a preference. The other drummer in our practice studio has a just a plain round Pork Pie throne with the thick cushioning which suprisingly feels great. I'll probabaly buy that instead or maybe go with roc-n-soc so I can get gas lift for the Benjis I'm spending.

Great Guitar Stool

Comments about Tama Ergo-Rider Throne with Backrest:

I am on the heavy side (to say the least) and needed a sturdy, wide and comfortable seat for my hours of guitar practice. I have found this throne to fit the bill perfectly except I really need for it to be a bit shorter. Being a female I tend to pack it on in the rear and the seat is ample. The backrest adjustments are a dream and I would recommend this to anyone needing a place to sit and play.

Comments about Tama Ergo-Rider Throne with Backrest:

A lot of people are talking about the bolts that hold the seat to the post and they are right. They can loosen up. But what kind of drummer does not check their stuff out to make sure it's all tight? It's a drum set! You bang on it and things can get loose.

Back to the point I've owned one of these thrones for several years now and it's been the best throne I have owned in the 3 years I've played drums. I will say that if you are around 5'5" this throne will probably be too tall for you even at it's lowest setting. I'm 5'9" and it's set about 2" from it's lowest setting.

Bottom line is the throne works well. It's plenty sturdy but I do advise checking the bolts now and then. It's comfortable and the back rest is great for playing for a long time.

If you want a really good throne that will last for years. Get this one, you wont be sorry.

take a pass on this one...

Comments about Tama Ergo-Rider Throne with Backrest:

the first few months i owned it the seat starts loosening on its own, even when im not rocking out. i tighten the NEW wing nut(the old one broke within the first year of owning) all the time. the comfort is great, and its tall enough for me, but that dang seat will just not stop wobbling around. its so wobbly sometimes i think it will break. I would not buy this item!

A little heavy, but worth it

Comments about Tama Ergo-Rider Throne with Backrest:

I have the 3-legged low-rider saddle seat model with backrest. Been lots of talk about the bolts coming loose and breaking, but when I bought mine, Tama immediately sent me the replacement bolt package, which I installed. I have had no problems whatever with it in over 5 years of heavy use and gigging. Just make sure all the lower adjustments are nice and snug, THEN put the seat on and tighten it down. I like mine a tad loose so it flows with me when I'm reaching for the farthest part of my kit, but even tightened down it did not move or wobble. It IS heavy, but the level of comfort it provides during long gigs is definitely worth it. Backrest is fully adjustable for height AND for angling back and forth and is very easy to adjust even "on the fly". This is the only throne I will ever use.

Best Throne I Have Ever Owned

By Gary-Dc3Ke

from Indianapolis, IN.

Comments about Tama Ergo-Rider Throne with Backrest:

I have had this throne for 3 yrs. now. All I can say is.... Fantastic. No problems to report. I own the three leg version. Its been thrown into the back of my pickup with no case to protect it. It has held up with no replacement parts. By far the best purchase ever made. The back rest is totally adjustable. Fits right in my lower spine. Buy this throne.

Don't lean back!

By telecaster1987

from Knoxville, TN

Comments about Tama Ergo-Rider Throne with Backrest:

The Tama Ht741 is a comfortable, mostly well made throne. Our church bought five for our band for use during the services and practices, etc. There seems to be a problem, in that one of the two bolts in the clamp holding the chair to the base bend and eventually shear off without warning. Two of the five broke within a few months of use, nearly dumping me a month ago, and our drummer today. Tried getting in touch with Tama, but they publish no contact info on their web site, without going through warranty registration. We really like these thrones, and will keep them but we're replacing the bolts. Hopefully they will contact me soon about this issue. Be careful, we had walls behind us to keep us from going in the floor.

The Funkussionist likes his new throne

By Funkussionist

Comments about Tama Ergo-Rider Throne with Backrest:

I like everything about my new throne except the price. But I realise you have to pay for quality. The seat shape and construction is awesome. The foam is of optimal firmness and seems to remember the shape of your butt. I was not distracted in any way from my playing by any part of this throne. The backrest is great as well and helps you to maintain a good posture. Height adjustment is easy. Hardware is solid and robust - (Typical Tama) Overall this is by far the best throne I have ever used. And I've used plenty.

Comments about Tama Ergo-Rider Throne with Backrest:

I love this throne, it never falls! The only thing is that you can't really use the back rest because if you did lean back that far it would be uncomfortable to play. I wish it was a little bit cheaper. I like the screw system to adjust the height. It's got could cushioning and I like the leather. Great buy

Comments about Tama Ergo-Rider Throne with Backrest:

I've been playing for coming up on 25 years. For the longest time, I couldn't play for more than about 45 minutes and then my back would start aching, which would of course last for some time afterward. After I bought this, ALL - I repeat - ALL of my back pain went away! I play between 10-30 hours a week, and NO BACK PAIN NOW. You will NOT be dissappointed. -p.s: the cusioning on the seat is awesome, as well!

Not a low rider

By Drum810

from Mountain view, CA

Comments about Tama Ergo-Rider Throne with Backrest:

If you like to sit really low this isn't the best throne. My DW 9100 goes an inch or two lower, and the DW 9101 is the 'low rider'. Also the four legs on the Tama mean that unless your floor surface is perfectly level, you're going to have some wobble. Apart from that, this is a great throne, excellent quality and the best I have tried to encourage good posture, which is important to me. The seat is well padded and very comfortable.

Comments about Tama Ergo-Rider Throne with Backrest:

Bought this two years ago and waited until now to offer my review. YES, my back problems did go away! Also, the backrest, besides being comfortable, also reminds me to maintain good posture. The cost is all relative: you get what you pay for, and in this case, very much worth it!

Comments about Tama Ergo-Rider Throne with Backrest:

Very pleased with my throne until Saturday March 10,2007 we were playing at a Christian Coffee House I set down for our last set and as I went to pickup my sticks the bolt broke on the clamp that holds the seat to the pedestal and I fell backwards to the stage floor.
