All right, you're already reading reviews on drink holders so you already recognize the massively huge utilitarian value they bring to a musician and just want the straight scoop on this particular product compared to others. But in case you've not recognized their utilitarian value, below is a short test to determine if a drink holder is right for you. Step 1: has any receptacle filled with any form of liquid ever been placed on top of your amp, cab, monitor, or on the floor next to speaker cables, guitar cables, or power cables? If the answer is yes, your test is complete: you will benefit from a drink holder. If the answer is no, then the only place you've ever played is your living room and you probably don't need this product.

Ok, on to the straight scoop. I did a lot of searching and review reviewing before settling on the Vater cup. I'm very pleased with this purchase. Of upmost value to me was something that would attach firmly, and would hold a varied assortment of cup/bottle sizes. The Vater met and exceeded both of these requirements for me.

The Vater holder is made by a company that for the most part, caters to drummers. As a result, their stuff is built to withstand vibrations and banging. The Vater drink holder uses a two sided clamp (think of the hands on a legoman figure), which are both tied into a wingnut. Once the clamp is placed on your mic stand, drum kit, or DESK! (yes i use mine in the office now on non-gig days to save surface space and avoid spillage onto important documents), you simply twist the wingnut until such time as the clamp is tightened. So far, this clamp system has worked awesomely for me. Again, i've been able to attach the thing to non-rounded items such as bookshelves, my desk, and door jams... all with enough hold power to handle the weight of a drink.

While I originally set out to get a "swirlygig", I have not tried it or others like it and can not attest as to their reliability and functionality, but I do know that I wanted something that would actually grip my mic stand (not just hang off it), and the Vater cup has exceeded my hopes. There are several swirley gig reviews that complain of it being too big or too small for their particular mic stand. The Vater won't have that problem because the clamp design.

Just last week during a show a bartender was busy and by the time she brought the drink to me I was in the middle of a song. Instead of putting my drink on the ground or on my marshall head as used to be the case, i motioned to the cup holder with my knee and voila, my equipment was saved and the drink was immediately within grabbing distance.

I love my Vater cup holder, and you likely will too. From one musician to another... cheers!

I nearly forgot that I had ordered this product because it was on back order for months! When I got around to thinking about my incomplete order, I contacted the company to inquire about the status...only to be told that it was still on back order. It would have been nice if the company had been more proactive in keeping me informed about the back order status or they could have offered alternatives, including sending my money back. I was not impressed with the customer service.

This product is hands down the absolute best invention ever!! It just clips on, stays in place, has rubber in the bottom, fits large cups - would highly recommend. We use one on the cymbal stand and one on the mic stand.

Comments about Vater Drink Holder with Clamp:

Buy at least two because you'll end up giving away at least one. When other musicians see it, they want it.

This Vater drink holder is sturdy and well built. The adjustable clamp will fit virtually any size diameter mic, music and drum stand. I believe it would clamp onto the edge of a 2x4 (exposed studs in a garage practice room or just a garage party) though I haven't tried that yet. The cup has a wide diameter and good depth to hold nearly any large drink container. It has a rubber "pad" in the bottom so the container won't slide around easily and make noise or slosh liquid out when the stand gets bumped.

One very minor criticism: the bottom of the cup is not completely flat. It is flat in the middle and beveled around the edge. This can result in the your drink container standing at a modest angle which could cause a minor amount of spillage when completely full to the top so I just take a couple quick gulps before putting it in and there is no problem.

This is a well thought out drink holder (other than my minor criticism about the bottom) and I am very satisfied with it. I will definitely buy a few more.

Comments about Vater Drink Holder with Clamp:

First off, I just couldn't help but add "improves sound" to my review. After all, what musician doesn't sound better after a couple drinks? :-)

Seriously though, this drink holder is substantial. I agree witht he previous review that the holder probably would not survive in a bag of drum hardware. But I am a bass player and my plan is to clamp this on my music stand and have it live in my trunk with my stand. Its very sturdy, moreso than the product listing picture conveys. With sturdy come weight. If you are a drummer, you won't notice the difference, but if you are an instrumentalist trying to keep the weight of your gear as low as possible, this will add a little bulk an a couple of pounds to your total. For me, its worth the extra weight in order to never have to look for a place to put my drink again.

I'll add to this review after I take the drink holder on a few gigs if the holder has problems. But I don't expect you'll be hearing from me.

Lastly, as others have suggested, I tried it out in my office too. Makes a nice drink storage option for those of us with computer gear and clutzy hands.

Oh, one other thing. In the "bottom line" section, it says I would recommend the AutoSquad service to a friend. No, I have no idea what AutoSquad is. I would, however, highly recommend the Vater Drink Holder!

            Vater Drink Holder with Clamp

            By Barry Schmidt

            from Santa Rosa, CA

Comments about Vater Drink Holder with Clamp:

Excellent value. Musician's Friend had the best price, and their shipping time was only a couple of days.
The Vater drink holder is extremely sturdy. The cup is constructed entirely of metal, and installation is easy: just loosen the knob until the clamp fits around the cymbal stand, adjust the height and direction of the drink holder, then tighten the knob. The diameter of the cup will hold any bottled water or other container that is 3 1/2 inches or less.

I use a Gibralter hi-hat stand stick bag, clamped to the left side of the stand, and the Vater on the right side. There is plenty of room between the bottom of the hi-hat cymbals and the Vater. The cup might work well on a ride or crash cymbal stand placed to the right of the kit, but if floor toms are used, it might be more of a reach to retrieve any type of liquid bottle. The drink holder fits quite closely to the hi-hat stand, so there is no interference with the bass or snare drums. Nice job, Vater.

Comments about Vater Drink Holder with Clamp:

This thing is just super solid! All metal, and has a nice foam insert in the cup holder. There are no drips because the cup holder is solid metal so I do not have to worry about any condensation drips getting on my pedals. The grip on this think is amazing and it screws on tightly. I am never worried about it falling off my mic stand.

Comments about Vater Drink Holder with Clamp:

I have nothing but good things to say about the Vater drink holder. I can mount it to any part of my mic stand and anywhere on my Hercules guitar stand! The adjustable clamp not only adapts to almost any size diameter but also allows you to level the cup holder while mounting it to any almost any angle. Brilliant!

This unit is well designed and very well built. It is made of metal with a clamp of high-impact plastic. The cup is sized to accept bootles, cans and standard beer glasses. You can also use it to hold a glass coffee cup with handle if placed at a slight angle (your mileage may vary avccording to the sixe and shape, though). For drummers the cup rings out with a bell-like quality when struck so it can be a musical as as well as a practical accessory. I own two myself and gave a way a number of these to friends for Christmas. I love this product!

Comments about Vater Drink Holder with Clamp:

I use mine to keep small percussion items in and it's plenty big enough for any drinking bottle. Once clamped down on my cymbal stand it will not move. It holds shaker eggs, a kazoo, and claves with ease. I do at times put a drink in it but it's so handy for holding other items.
                Very usable
                Heavy, top notch!

This drink holder is great. I don't know why I have waited so long to get one. By far my favorite accessory on my kit right now. No more beers tipping over on stage and getting all over your pedals and feet. Stuck this baby on my hi-hat stand, had a drink in there the entire gig, and didn't lose a single drop. Heavy duty construction. Worth every penny. Would have paid double.

Stops you from having to bend over and pick your drink off the floor if there isn't anything near by to set it on.

Great cup holder but i use it to hold my harps between songs. Perfect for that. Very handy

This cup holder is originally made for drummers. However, as a female vocalist I have enjoyed this immensely. It is extremely sturdy clipped/tightened onto my mic stand. The convenience of not having to lean over to grab my drink is worth the price alone.

It seldom happens that a piece of gear towers so high above its competitors as to eclipse them entirely, but this Vater drink holder does just that. It's big and sturdy enough to hold a fat 26 oz. liquor bottle (except don't), built like a tank, affordable, and the clamping mechanism is pure genius. Once clamped on, nothing is going to move it short of outright destruction. In case you accidently head butt your mic stand, like I regularly do, and your drink slops, the cup is leak-proof. Sure it is just a drink holder, but it's the best drink holder in the known universe.

Very sturdy all-metal unit. While I use in on a mic stand, I can see why drummers would prefer this unit. It's very solid and stays put.

Dam Sam! This thing is perfect. Easy to install, holds a beer bottle, water bottle, tumbler of whiskey sour. Stuck it on my hi hat stand, and BOOM. .. . ready to rock. Would have actually paid more if I had too. Ha.
