OVERVIEW

You'll never go back to regular wing nuts again!

A cool-looking, convenient, and time-saving method for securing cymbals to stands. Unlike the traditional wing nut, the Slick Nut doesn't need to be threaded on or off and won't loosen or fall off while you play. Simply hold in the fastening button, put Slick Nut on the cymbal stand, and release the button. It can also be used as a theft deterrent by tightening the hex set screw on the side of the body. This makes the Slicknut nonremovable, a great feature for drummers who have to leave their drum kits in clubs overnight. The Slick Nut fits stands with 8mm threads and has a cymbal felt attached. Hex key and replacement felt included.

I have been using these for a year playing about 2-3 gigs per month. Transport them attached to the stands knocking around my hardware bag with my other stands. No signs of damage or wear.

If you need to break down and setup quickly between sets, I highly recommend these. Dealing with wingnuts on cymbal stand tops used to be somewhat nerve-wracking, over-loosen a wingnut in a hurry and it would go bouncing around in the dark (I'm sure most gigging drummers have had that experience before).

Only con I've noticed is the locking mechanism on one of the three fasteners is a little more stubborn when securing into place. But ultimately it still works, and I've never had to lock my fasteners onto my stands.

Haven't had any threading issues either using a sound percussion boom, a dw straight and some no-name straight.

You will probably have to experiment with different sized felts to get the feels/responses you want from the cymbals just right. Didn't take me much time or effort to get them right. I squeezed a couple of additional thin felts I had lying around beneath and above the cymbal. Then put on the fastener, no washers.

BOTTOM LINE:
Really worth it for gigging drummers.

If you've got a permanent setup for recording and you don't want to worry about wing nuts swiveling loose, and cymbals not being set to the same tension and give, time after time, these are pretty great. This is the best solution that will hold cymbals the same, day after day, year after year.

If I were the well paid tech for a drummer, these would be my standard.

However, if I were a drummer who needs to assemble and tear down quickly with no issues, I'd go with the Tama Cymbal Mates.

Comments about Vater Slick Nut Quick-Release Cymbal Fastener:

I break down and set my set up my set 15 to 20 times a week and the slick nut is great! It cuts down set up time at gigs and is strong. Does not slide off or pop off...(you could lift up the stand by just the slick nut)Only issue I had was that I have the cymbal sleeves with threads, I had to file off the threads to lower it further to allow the slick nut to clamp on...this took 1 min. I am buying them for all my cymbals. I highly recommend the slick nut to any drummer!

Comments about Vater Slick Nut Quick-Release Cymbal Fastener:

I have about 12 of these on my set. I really like the hold they put on the cymbals. You can have a tight hold or a loose hold and you know the nut won't go anywhere. The one complaint I have is that you pretty much have to tighten the hex screw on all of them because I've had some jump up the threads (yes, on a 8mm stand) when not even hit all that hard. Also, if the cymbal spins, the Slick Nut will spin with it, causing it to loosen. They work great, and I plan to keep using them, but having to always tighten the hex screw seems to defeat the purpose of "quick release"!

      The Greatest Cymbal Accessory

      By Matt Driscoll

      from New York

Comments about Vater Slick Nut Quick-Release Cymbal Fastener:

This little doohicky is the coolest thing for any drummers kit. These are the neatest, quickest, and have the greatest ability to keep your cymbals safe, and held right. I had the stock wingnuts and things on there, but everytime I hit the cymbal, the wingnut would loosen/tighten on me to where the cymbal wouldn't move and it could be a danger to the cymbal. These, you push a button, pop on and thats it. The one thing they need, it a loosen of the inner screw to make sure the slicknut doesn't move, or loosen it a little for a quick release. I haven't had one problem with these.
You have this problem, this is your solution. Get this now!! Lol
Quick on/off slip. If a cymbal breaks, these come off so quick to pop a new cymbal back on and get on with the show. Sturdy too.
10/10. Sturdy, strong, can't see it breaking ever. Had this for about 2 months.
You need this. You will not be wasiting a dime if you buy this. You could actually be saving money because your cracked cymbals b/c of overtighting, is GONE!!.

Comments about Vater Slick Nut Quick-Release Cymbal Fastener:

You must tighten the Allen screw or they will pop off. They are much better than the TAMA version, the TAMA's DO pop off.

The advantage to these is that they don't vibrate off like a regular wing-nut.

Comments about Vater Slick Nut Quick-Release Cymbal Fastener:

I've used a set of six with my drum set. They are very convenient, look great and reasonably secure. However, they can sometimes pop off. For real security, you need to tighten the side set screw, but then that negates the easy-on-easy-off benefits.

i dont use the allan key becaus i like the quickness of being able to change my splash cymbal from rude 10 inch to a signature 8 inch (paiste) or even stack them. i can even do all of this dureing the song to lol
people say there were issues with it poping off but i havnt seen that and i dont even use the allan key fastening thing
its kinda expensive to get slick nuts for all of your cymbals and x-hats but its well worth it!!!

Comments about Vater Slick Nut Quick-Release Cymbal Fastener:

My son has a kit with many cymbals and must set up quickly in the venues he plays. These Slick Nuts save him much needed time setting up and tearing down the kits. They're also easier to keep track of than wing nuts, as the wing nuts will often fall to the floor when spinning them off the stand. Unfortunately the Slick Nuts are a lot more expensive to replace when you forget to attach them to the stand after removing and packing the cymbal. Still, the time saved is worth it.

Tama's version with the squeeze-in side lobes works much better than these and don't fail like these do, (in short time). DW is still making only the wing nut method, (probably because it can't break or fail). Persoanlly - I haven't found any Vater products that are superior to their competitor's. But that's just my opinion.

These slip right on and right off. You can tighten them to a fixed tension where they won't come off at all with a small hex key (included). These are super easy to use. Not a necessary component to any drum set buy they are nice. The only bad thing is the logo. I turned mine backwards as it's the only Vater thing I have.

Great product. Wish I had bought these years ago. Can't believe how many times I have dropped a wing nut and crawled around on floor in dark bar looking for it! Highly recommend.
