For that great vintage jazz bass drum sound!
The Vater Vintage Bomber Bass Drum Beater was designed in collaboration with Otis Brown III, drummer for jazz great Joe Lovano. The Vintage Bomber was conceived and designed to replicate the soft but boomy bass drum tones of the great jazz era. The Vintage Bomber's cork center is wrapped with a soft and puffy synthetic covering and is reminiscent in look, feel, and sound of the original lamb's wool beaters from decades ago.

Comments about Vater Vintage Bomber Bass Drum Beater:
Boy, when they named this the bomber, they do the word bomber justice. It gives the sound all jazz drummers hear and strive for, a great amount of sensitivity while still being able to cut loose and get REALLY loud. when you slam the bomber into the head you get a very satisfying punch while still being musical and resonant. That is the beauty of the fo-lambskin that this beater is known for. On the note of weight, it is not heavy at all, it weighs a little less than a stock plastic beater and is very easy to control. This thing is absolutely jaw dropping.

Comments about Vater Vintage Bomber Bass Drum Beater:
This thing sounds really cool and I don't even really play jazz. Jazz is not the only use for this thing (though it does that well). You still get the punch, but it's a little warmer and rounder. I am working through Art of Bop right now however, and most of the exercises call for "feathering" the bass drum, which is tough to do with the beaters I had. That's why I bought it, mostly, and it has done the trick.
Comments about Vater Vintage Bomber Bass Drum Beater:
I've had this beater for over a week. The tone you'll get out of this thing is really special if you're into warm sounds. The most interesting thing is how it gives my other drums room. My previous wooden beater had a smaller yet punchier sound that ended up drowning out a lot of the frequencies of my other drums. I started using this and noticed that my other drums sounded much deeper and clearer. This happened because the bass drum beater emphasised the lower qualities in the bass drum rather than increasing attack. The control of the beater was quite exceptional as it bonded well with my pedal. Overall, I have to say that this beater is perfect is you're going for a deeper, more responsive tone. Great buy.

Comments about Vater Vintage Bomber Bass Drum Beater:
This beater sounds great rebounds well. It's super easy to play with and awesome for double strokes. Has solid dynamic range, gives a very full sound.
Only con: Not very durable. If you play really aggressively it will break in months.
Comments about Vater Vintage Bomber Bass Drum Beater:
Any drummer that is called to play diverse styles of music, live or in the studio, should carry one of these in his gig bag. When you are in a playing situation that requires more tone than attack this is the beater you need. Don't be misled by the size of the beater. It is about the same weight as hard felt and lighter than solid wood.

This is a great product. I play behind a singer in an upscale restaurant, and this beater is not loud unless you punch it. It's also great when I play the old Blue Note catalog.

Comments about Vater Vintage Bomber Bass Drum Beater:
Great soft beater, but it does have a solid core center under the 'fluffiness" so you can stomp on it and get some good sound out of it if needed from time to time.

Comments about Vater Vintage Bomber Bass Drum Beater:
This is the only beater I have ever seen that can take out the intrusive thud sound of a kick drum. This one gives you a way to soften the attack without removing volume. A one of a kind that's worth way more than the cost.
