OVERVIEW

A seriously powerful amp for serious bassists.

The Acoustic B200 professional combo is designed for large club and live applications where the sound of its 15" bass driver and horn will fill the stage with warmth and punch. That's because it pounds a massive 200 watts RMS into the internal 15" speaker, delivering the classic Acoustic pro's tone in a portable, professional design.

The two bass inputs are designed to accommodate both active and passive bass instruments while the Gain and Volume controls give you complete control over the character of your tone. Increase the gain for some old school rock tones, or lower it and turn up the volume for great clean, classic or funk tones. The preamp includes a very natural and tube-like compression as well as a harmonically rich distortion circuit, which keeps your tone musical--even at high volume levels. The B200 also includes a frequency sweepable -10dB notch filter to tailor your mids, and a six-band EQ for exact control over every nuance of your bass's tone.

Rear panel features include a parallel effects loop, tweeter on/off switch, and XLR balanced Line Out with Level Control and Ground Lift. The series extension speaker jack provides an output for an additional cabinet such as the Acoustic B115 or B410.

The heritage of Acoustic comes through loud and clear in the B200--a seriously professional amp for serious bassists.

I love the retro look of the amp. All controls feel solid. I like that it has a built in amp fan also. Tone controls offer a wide range of variables.
The Acoustic B200 is truly a nice little amp for the money. I have been playing bass for more years than I care to mention. Been through the "seperate electronics" to amp/cab combos. I have played virtually all styles of music over the years as well, so with this in mind.....

After using the B200 now since Feb of this year and quite a few venues, I can honestly say this little amp holds up nicely. I have never felt a need for more volume nor does it lack tone. The amp offers a very clear array of tone controls and its very easy to dial in the sound that suits the individual. I play medium to small clubs and this amp has never let me down in the volume department. I play a Jazz bass and the guitars tone holds true with this amp. I get that growl I like with both pick ups on, or a fat thicker tone with the neck pick up only. The B200 offers a relatively tight/clear tone and I have never experienced any kind of amp distortion or clipping from it. As a side note here, I have hooked this amp up to a 2-10 extension cab (8 ohm) and the amp gets louder and bigger sounding.

I dont know what other reviewers are talking about when it comes the the amps weight. I can easily pick this thing up (bad back and all) and put it in my cars back seat with ease. I recommend casters to roll the amp into the gig, but all in all, not a heavy amp.

Keep in mind the price point on this unit. The tone you want is there, with a little time of dialing it in. The tolex covering will tear easily if your rough on your gear. This is in part, due to the cab being made out of pressed board instead of plywood. Like I said, for the money who cares is the tolex rips up a bit. This amp sounds good enough to overlook some tears.

I hope the review was helpful. Rock on!
So far so good. Nothing has gone wrong with the amp.
For the price point, this is a great value. I have tried other combo amps at twice the price and ended up with this amp because of tone and flexibility.

The first b200 I ordered was apparently damaged in transit; I suspect by the delivery guy as he said, "we better check it, the box looks a little beat up." Cabinet was split down the back. The factory packaging was very weak, to be fair. No big deal, MF sent me another without question. I have had the second one for 10 days today, and it sounded great, and looks solidly constructed. Today during an hour-long practice session, it started to distort, and now has permanent crappy sounding distortion no matter what I do. I had never cranked it, or abused it in any way, never plugged in my bass with it on, no heavy slapping/popping, etc; I know was not my fault. Again, MF is very supportive, and I am currently trying to decide whether to try a third one or try another brand. I can only find one other person with the same problem on the web, on a popular bass forum site; the problem for him was with the amp rather than the speaker and my symptoms sound exactly the same as his. I'll probably try another brand; this thing really sounded great and has some nice features, and if I knew a replacement b200 would last I would definitely go for it again. But, there are definite quality concerns.

B200 200W amp is awesome

By Kirk Payne

from Nebraska

Comments about Acoustic B200 200W 1x15 Bass Combo:

Overall, this is a great amp. The direct out level control, horn control, multiple equalizer nobs, notch filter, all of these things come together to provide you the control you need to get the sound you want. The output is enough to shake the windows but also sounds great at lower volume. Love this amp.
This thing has everything I was looking for. I had a 450W head with a 1200W cab. This was a pain to move around, so I wanted something smaller. I got this amp and it is the perfect weight and size. Now I can put the amp and guitar in the trunk. The direct out with level control is great. Try to find an amp with this feature. It is not that easy. Most of the time, when the amp is loud enough for you, direct out to the sound board is to high. This level control is great and sound people love it. Also, being able to turn the horn off and on is a great feature. Mostly standard between amps, but is still a great feature. The multiple equalizer nobs and notch filter makes it easier to get the sound you are looking for. May take a little playing to get it, but the manual gives you some starting points for the sound you are looking for. All in all, very happy with the features of this amp.
Looks to be well made. I love that they did not put a logo on the speaker front fabric. Let the sound come though. I have used it and do not find any problems at all and am happy with the construction and sound.
This was a great value. I got it when Musicians Friend had a 15% off sale, so that paid for shipping and then some. I did my research and this amp had the best reviews at the lowest price for the wattage. I would recommend this amp to any musician that is doing a small to medium size gig or for practice. I play in clubs where they run the bass through the mixer, so this is my monitor. It holds it's own. Another bonus not everyone would get, but I ordered it with standard shipping and it arrived the very next day. What a great suprise.

Comments about Acoustic B200 200W 1x15 Bass Combo:

This amp is really great for the price. It sounds better than I expected. It is very strong for its size and the tone is quite good. I'm very happy with it. The only weird thing is that you can't turn off the notch filter.

Comments about Acoustic B200 200W 1x15 Bass Combo:

I'm going to be straightforward and honest with you. This is hands-down the most excellent bass amp I have ever played. It has a nice, clean tone, and sounds great. It can also be loud and proud, and by that I mean it's a lot louder than most other amps I have played. I could be playing a cheap beginner bass or a multi-thousand dollar bass, it still sounded pro. Unfortunately for me, I am just a hobbyist so I have no purpose to buy it. But I can always swing by my local music store for a visit.
A great thing about this amp is that is allows for two channels: active and passive. No matter which channel I would plug my bass into, it sounded phenomenal. It also had knobs for bass, treble, and middle.

Money Well Spent

By happyfingers

Comments about Acoustic B200 200W 1x15 Bass Combo:

I have owned many bass rigs in my short life, including little 15w practice amps to vintage tube amps to a 6oow Carvin stack. Unfortunately as my financial situation varies, so does my current collection of gear. This amp is definitely in my top 5 favorite rigs. I bought it new at guitar center (boo) a couple years ago and have found it to be probably one of the best values in bass amplification. I prefer a classic tone over modern clankiness, and by muting the horn boosting lows and low mids, and cutting the treble I've found a nice warm, round tone thats very easy to listen to. I haven't used this amp at a show but I think it would do just fine in a bar setting where I usually find myself. Bottom line is: This is a great value. Of course a half stack is louder, and a tube amp is warmer, but the B200 is a well built, good sounding, loud, and reliable amplifier and I would have payed more for it if I had to.

Comments about Acoustic B200 200W 1x15 Bass Combo:

I am satisfied with the sound, the weight, the size and the price. I have owned Traynor, Peavey, Behringer and Ampeg amps, and find the Acoustic B200 suits me the best of all.
All the features I need to make my Hofner bass sing.
Good quality for the price, and not too heavy to man-handle.
For the price I paid it is a true good value.

B200 200W 1x15 Bass Combo... All I got to say is Wow!

By William Hurst

Comments about Acoustic B200 200W 1x15 Bass Combo:

.
I'm a seasoned trumpeter who recently bought an Ibanez SRA300 string bass. I bought a used (like new) B200 200W 1x15 Bass Combo and I must say this thing rocks. Big sound! I got it for a steal. I'm yet to turn it up because it rattles the metal in my fire place. Plus I don't feel the need to move it to another room just to turn it up. I've been around the band stand long enough to know you can't go wrong with this amp as a practice and small to medium size venue kicker.

For practice, actually developing skills, this amp is fully capable of letting you hear the real deal while practicing. Sticky bass lines, no fraud! Ive been practicing every day since I got it and I look forward to playing. Im not into compress wood but Im good with this amp

Comments about Acoustic B200 200W 1x15 Bass Combo:

I needed an inexpensive bass amp with enough power to play bar gigs, etc. I looked at both new and used and decided to try this Acoustic sight unseen based on customer reviews. This thing ROCKS! The owner's manual has a few tone setting suggestions that are really helpful. Within minutes, I had the sound I wanted. I brought it to a band audition and everyone loved the tone. On stage, this amp has plenty of power to keep up with miked drums and loud guitar leads. Very little tweeking is required to keep the tone I want at higher volume levels. I love the sounds from this amp. The handles are well placed to carry the weight, which at 75 pounds is a consideration.
All in all, this combo performs as well as or better than anything else I've tried in the under $1000 price range.
This amp has nothing fancy effects wise, but it has all the EQ controls you need, a direct out and provision for an effects loop.
Electronically everything works well. The tolex covering has a few bubbles, but looks OK.
For the price, it can't be beat.

Comments about Acoustic B200 200W 1x15 Bass Combo:

I started playing bass way back when the Acoustic brand was still around and their bass amps were considered the premier amps to play through. Of course I couldn't afford one. So, when the Acoustic brand showed back up, I was very intrigued. I was looking to down size to a combo since I was getting tired of packing an amp head and two cabinets to our gigs. Given the reputation of the old Acoustic brand, I bought this sight unseen and unheard. Very glad I did! This amp is great! It is well made and certainly has a vintage look and sound. This amp will serve you well for practice and club gigs alike. Actually, I think it's louder than my 300 watt stack, it certainly sounds better and is easier to take to gigs! The sound of this thing is very versatile. While the controls are quite simple, you can get a lot of different variations in tone. It has features usually found on more expensive amps - fan cooled, balanced line out with level control and ground lift, spring loaded side handles, and caster sockets (shame casters are not included). It is also covered in Tolex, which I personally love. I've come to hate carpet covering (rat fur)since it collects more dust and fuzz than an old vacuum cleaner! The only down side to this amp is the fact that the cabinet is made with MDF (fiberboard) instead of wood or wood laminate, but that's not really a big deal. Anyway, give this amp a try, I think you'll love it!

B200 Bass Combo exceeds all expectations.

Comments about Acoustic B200 200W 1x15 Bass Combo:

My son was looking for a bass amp. He started playing bass just a couple of months ago and is really doing well. He had been looking at used ones as well as new. I found the B200 on Musicians Friend and since he was paying half he was skeptical that it would be this good for the price. He hasen't given it a rest since it arrived. He was amazed at the quality for the price and so was I.

Comments about Acoustic B200 200W 1x15 Bass Combo:

I got this Acoustic amp as an upgrade from my old Behringer 45 watt so that I could actually be heard in my ska band, and this thing does not disappoint. It is loud and has a great tone to go along with it, and there is just something I love about its old time look. This is the perfect amp for just about any situation.

Comments about Acoustic B200 200W 1x15 Bass Combo:

We bought this amp for my church to replace the Ampeg BA115. I didn't think we'd get an amp as great as the Ampeg, however when I tried out the Acoustic, I immediately knew we'd made a good buy. The tone is great and the equilizer isn't too shabby. It does have a bit of a popping sound on occasion, but only when it's turned up quite a bit. I would definitely say this has been a great buy.

The B200 is a great rehearsal-to-gig amp at a price that can't be beat.Flexible EQ section, well marked, responsive and capable of a wide range of GREAT bass tones, topped off with a notch control that helps achieve that final tweak of perfection.I've run the B200 hard with a hard-rocking band and it holds its own and then some; awesome! I'm considering expanding this rig with the matching Acoustic B115.All in all, highly recommended without reservation -- a beginner can afford it; a pro can't afford to ignore it!

Comments about Acoustic B200 200W 1x15 Bass Combo:

I play in 2 bands (an acoustic based 5 piece and a classic rock 4 piece). I'm primarily a guitar player, but our small town is critically short of bass players, so for the past year, most of my playing has been on bass. I bought a Roland Cube 100 and have been pretty satisfied with it. Its effects and modeling capabilities are great, but to get any clarity on the low E string, I had to supplement it with a 15" sub. Otherwise it would get very muddy. This Acoustic handles the low strings with ease and the tweeter adds just the right amount of punch (I may be adding a 4X10 to supplement the high end). I use a Lakland, a G&L SB2 and a Palatino EUB. With slight adjustments to the EQ settings they all sound unbelievable and there is enough power that I don't have to feed the line out to the PA if I don't want to. You just can't get a better sounding combo anywhere near the price range of this amp. Buy it...you won't be sorry.

Comments about Acoustic B200 200W 1x15 Bass Combo:

Now that my amp has been gigged a few times, I thought I should write a few lines. It has done a smaller venue a couple of times (biker-bar type joint) and a fairly large Knights of Columbus hall. No problems in either setting: in fact, our keyboardist took a quick restroom break, which was located at the back of the KOC hall, and said the bass was loud and clear. This was at halfway up volume-wise, and in a pretty large room.My last amp was a Peavey TKO, which had a graphic equalizer, and was a bit easier to adjust. However, the TKO just wasnt loud enough. You will not have that problem with the B-200. Plus, you can add a additional cabinet...that is just a huge plus.Economics run my life. I am always on a budget. For the money, this is about as good as you can get, and it is plenty good.

Comments about Acoustic B200 200W 1x15 Bass Combo:

I found that the B200 alone was not powerful enough for the venues and type of music I play so I purchased a B410 cabinet and that helped. Unfortunately, the external speaker output on the B200 is in series with the internal 4 ohm speaker. The B200 is rated at 200 watts but that is for a 4 ohm load (the internal speaker only). By connecting an external 8 ohm load in series, you increase the load to 12 ohms and this drops the total power delivered to all the speakers to around 70 watts.

You'd be better off purchasing the B200H head and the B115 or B410 cabinet (the B200H head has the external speakers outputs in parallel). This way you could connect two cabinets and get the full 200 watts delivered to the speakers.

I bought the B200 based on the reviews on this site, and all I can say is WOW!!! The acoustic B200 is a great combo at this prie range or any other price range. I have used this baby for contemporary gospel for in home practice, small venues, and as an on stage monitor at an outdoor fair. It is kind of heavy but it paks a big punch. I play with a churh band and I never turn the volume past 5.I highly reccommend this amp to anyone who can get past name brands and just want quality. Buy it and you won't be sorry.

Comments about Acoustic B200 200W 1x15 Bass Combo:

I love this amp. This is super load, and sounds great. The manual has some ways to set the EQ to get different sounds, like slap-funk. In the back there is an XLR and a 1/4th out, Effects Return and Send (1/4th jacks), Direct Out Volume, Ground Lift Switch, and a Horn on/off push button. I love the sound. Used it in music practice tonight, and everyone commented on how clear and great sounding it was. For excited to use it in the future. If you are thinking about buying this amp, do it.
