Overview

Bring the doom with this stage-ready head built to the specs of Geezer Butler.

It started with a farewell tour and a very specific demand: a bass tone powerful enough to close the book on one of the most influential bands in heavy music. The Ashdown Geezer Butler HOD-600 Head of Doom 600W was born from extensive collaboration between Ashdown and Geezer Butler’s longtime tech, Terry Welty, in preparation for Black Sabbath’s final run. Hand built in the UK and based on Ashdown’s flagship ABM platform, this signature bass amp head captures five decades of iconic low-end authority in a single, stage-dominating design.

600W RMS Power Built on ABM Reliability

At its core, the Head of Doom delivers 600W RMS into a minimum 4-ohm load, providing the headroom and punch required for modern touring rigs. Two Neutrik speakON outputs anchor the power section, while transformer-isolated outputs and a dedicated slave input allow multiple heads to be driven from a single source. Built on the proven ABM architecture, the HOD-600 balances massive output with the stability and consistency working bassists expect night after night.

Twin VU Meters And Doom-Driven Tube Saturation

The dual front-panel VU meters are more than visual theater. One monitors input level, helping you optimize gain staging, while the second tracks output level for real-time stage control. The signature Doom control pushes additional current into the 12AX7 preamp valve stage, unlocking rich harmonic distortion tailored specifically for bass guitar. This circuit can be pre-set and engaged via footswitch, allowing you to move from authoritative clean tones to crushing overdrive with precision and consistency.

9-Band EQ, Sub-Harmonic Generator And Footswitch Control

A comprehensive 9-band EQ provides familiar Bass, Middle and Treble controls alongside six additional sliders for detailed frequency shaping. The Shape control further sculpts overall voicing, while the EQ section itself can be engaged via footswitch for instant tonal shifts. The integrated Sub-Harmonic generator adds an octave below your played notes, delivering added weight and depth with independent level control. Sub-harmonics and EQ switching are both footswitchable, making this 600W bass head as adaptable on stage as it is commanding.

Professional Connectivity For Stage And Studio

The HOD-600 is fully equipped for modern performance environments. A tuner output, line out, transparent effects loop and dedicated line input support complex signal chains and external sources. Output muting silences the DI feed while keeping the tuner output active, allowing silent tuning between songs. From its transformer-isolated outputs to its expandable slave capability, the Ashdown Geezer Butler Head of Doom delivers the connectivity, control and unmistakable presence required by players who demand more than standard backline amplification.
