Qualifier: I have been playing guitar for over a quarter century, have worked with a lot of professional bands, and make custom electric guitars for a living... I know my stuff. That aside, lets put this amp into perspective. It is not a thousand plus dollar Marshall, it doesn't sound as good at distortion as a Genz-Benz, or a Soldano, and won't be as loud as a 400 watt amp. It is a hundred watt solid state HALF STACK FOR CHEAP! I cant even get a decent cabinet for the price of this whole half stack. Not too shabby if you ask me. I have owned this amp now for about three months, and honestly, I almost never plug in my Marshall anymore. ('Course that may be because with a solid state amp like this one, there is no wait for the tubes to warm up.) It's so nice to get the urge to play, and not have to turn on the amp and wait. The features of the head are not anything to jump up and down about, but they ain't bad! The contour control is very nice. I can actually get a pretty convincing Randy Rhoads sound out of distortion 2. Each channel has a three band EQ, and gain 2 has contour as well. Both channels have level and a master control, and reverb. The reverb does sound like it is part of a cheap amp, but c'mon guys, it is!Volume is very good for an amp of this price. I have no problem whatsoever keeping up with the drummer or the bassist. The only thing I am somewhat dissatisfied with is the noise. It is very hummy at top volume and gain. Do yourself a favor and get yourself a Rocktron C Hush. Problem solved. Tha cabinet is very well constructed, and will take (and dish out) a beating. My only complaint would be the tone of the speakers. The overall register of the cabinet is very bassy. I might decide to replace the cones with some Celestions, but I'm not sure that it's worth the hassle. I've actually come to like the boom that this cab dishes out. All in all, this has become my defacto band practice amp. I originally bought it to have an amp to leave at the tavern, but I can't seem to part with it, so I haul it every time. :)

Hey, I played at a local show a couple weeks ago, and I let my other guitarist use my Marshall Valvestate 100Watt Half Stack(its the Pre-AVT, with the AVT cab). And I had to use another band's B-52, we thought everything was ok durring soundcheck, but when I did the distortion channel Durring our band's cool song, it was really quiet, and I couldn't hear anything, It Suxed, and it ruined my part of the show that evening. But the clean channel seemed to partially comply with my marshall, It wasn't anything like I wanted to hear though. The Marshall completely KILLED it, it blew it out of the water, I mean, I thought it sounded good in my room, but in a venue, In which it was made for, the sound quality was enforced by 10X, WOW! so, you know what to do if you are in the same thinking state as me... next time I play at a show, im letting my other guitarist use the other guy's amp, and Im using my Marshall.

BEST AMP FOR BEST PRICE

By m4bfavre

from Peoria, AZ

This is by far the best amp for the price, i am honestly amazed on how cheap this amp is. It is booming loud and the tone of the guitar stays clean no matter how high you turn it up. i'm not sure about the head, however, because i have a marshall AVT150 head and that is by far the best sound in the world between the two of them. KILLER SOUND.

Awesome and Affordable Guitar Amp!

By Keon

from California

When I first bought this, my friends made fun of me and told me I should have put in the extra few dollars for a Marshall. I soon proved them very wrong. This is a very awesome half-stack. The 100-Watt amp kicks out enough power to enable you to easily play louder than drums and still sounds awesome at low volume. The 12" speakers in the 400 watt cab provide a nice warm sound that is perfect for any style of music. Great value, overall. Excellent product.

This baby will blow your mind!

By rockkachnycz89

I got this amp about a year ago, and let me tell you, it has been worth every cent. There aren't that many great features to it, (the only effects are distortion and reverb), but the sound is just amazing. I bought this amp because of the genuine tube sound. This blew me away because this amp, unlike most, will sound great at any volume. I have used the B-52 for anywhere from classic rock to blues to heavy metal and it sounds great. after playing on numerous marshalls crates and fenders, i would take this amp over any one of them any day.

WOW!

By Anonymous

Went to a local store looking for a half stack, expecting to find the crap Marshall and low end Crate in my price range. I didn't like either one and was going for the used stuff when I saw the price tag on the B52. It was stacked next to the JCMs and Mesas. I plugged in and messed with the controls for a few minutes (they are similar to the crate setup). The ported cab adds some serious bass response and the head puts out plenty of power. I took it to practice (after playing a 120 watt crate combo for the past few months) and the lead player for my band was blown away. The cab is very heavy and solid as a tank. The only thing I don't like is the small head. it looks odd on a full size cab.

Its alright. I was really dissapointed when i got it because it has so much feedback. You really need to work with it and buy a pedal so you wont get so much feedback. But its what you get what you paid for.

GREAT BUY!!!

By off_the_wall

even when it's not on sale, this amp is worth every cent, 3 channel footswitch (2 distortion channels, and reverb) incredible tone and volume. i have a tele, a strat, an iceman and a les paul, and they all sound great. in your basement practicing, or in the concert hall performing. when your wallet is tight, this is absolutely the amp for you.

I bought this amp around a year ago and have already sold it off. we wont even go into the snickers I got bringing my b52 into practice. lets get to the tone. the distortion is second rate. you cant get that much gain on it and if you play metal at all...forget about it. its a very noisy amp. I got a lot of hums and buzzes from it which is my biggest complaint. Its loud...ill give it that.

I saw this half stack and wondered what it was like. So once i plugged into it and played......I was blown away. This amp really gives out clear tone and has goo features. The 4x12 cab can really do some serious damage, it pumps out so much sound and resonance. This is a very good amp for most styles of music, especially hardcore and metal.

Ask me a question

Powerful, reliable, ... very under rated. The perfect Gig 1/2 stack ... Have had a B-52 for over two years ... never a problem with anything. Solid State electronic a real plus for the band on the road, cabinet will handle anything without any unwanted distortion (400 watt handling capability). This a great 1/2 stack ... should cost much more!

This amp moves the earth, the contour control is bad-a** and gives you that rectified distortion you can feel move throuh the floor. The clean channel sounds really good and crisp. I play throuh a Dime-slime washburn and it never sounded right playing through the clean channel on any amp, with this one it sounds spine-tinglingly awsome. It's an all around heavy duty amp that can deliver whatever is in your head, and for less than the typical stack.

I was looking for a inexpensive half-stack, so I went to Guitar Center and I was going to buy the Marshall MGHD100FX, and the salesman who is an advent Marshall owner told me to try out this amp, I was blown away far better sound and quality for the price than the Marshall. If your strapped for cash, don't even waste your time playing any other amp. Two thumbs way up!

ATTENTION NU METAL PLAYERS

By Divebomb888

from Ft. Myers, Florida

I bought this from my local guitar store, and i've had it for a while now, and i don't plan to change. A lot of people are swayed by brand name amps, such as marshall. given, marshall does have a legendary status, but B-52 is working its way there. i plugged a high dollar les Paul into a Mode four, then went to this, and that cinched it, this got much more of a bassy nu-metal sound for a significantly smaller price. And not to mention the clean tones this thing gets. the reverb is all anyone can ask for. i highly recommend this stack to any musician in any genre, it's just perfect for anything! :)

Great amp for the price

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

This stack is an awesome choice if you are only have a couple hundred dollars and your looking for amp wiht power, the head is ok but the cad is awesome. The base hits hard and it has good gain channels, however, the reverb is not that good and if you play with it live you will need an equalizer, but it's a great buy!
