Behringer is a company I have really tried to hate, mostly due to some bad experiences with some of their amps years ago!!! But lately it seems they're really stepping up their game...Deep Mind 12, owning Bugera, etc. A couple of months ago I purchased a BDI21 Bass DI. Been using it in church ever since!!! Love it!!! You can find my rating elsewhere...
Decided to give Behringer another try...glad I did!!! The VP1 Vintage Phaser is amazing!!! One look and you know who they're trying to emulate...and they NAILED it!!! Ran my bass through it into the BDI21 a couple of Sundays ago, used on one of the main songs I bought this pedal for, and got nothing but compliments!!! One lady came up to me after service and said, "I am not musically inclined at all, but I could really differentiate your bass from the rest of the instruments. You really sounded good, especially on the second song." (Mighty Warrior, the song I used the Vintage Phaser on!!!) WOW!!!
This pedal also sounds great on guitar...but...as far as I'm concerned..the absolute Best use for this pedal is running an electric piano!!! I'm telling you this thing is a time machine!! Don't believe it??? Run an electric piano, or a keyboard with a realistic electric piano sound through this thing...turn the knob to between 2-3 1/2...close your eyes, and hit a chord...any chord...and just hold it!!! When you open your eyes you will either have an afro 2 feet past your shoulders, and a neatly trimed goatee, or your hair will be just past your shoulders, parted in the middle with 'wings', you'll be wearing one of those butt-ugly rayon shirts we used to all wear (if you're old enough to remember those), and either bell-bottom jeans , or an equally ugly leisure suit...ready to get your boogie on!!! It absolutely NAILS that late 60's to early 80's sound you've heard a million times!!!

With the single control knob this pedal is pretty easy to figure out what you want to do with it. I generally keep it dialed at between 3 and 5, much more than that just gets too whacky. The tone knob is a bit disappointing as it increases the background hiss noise and even causes it to oscillate in time with the phaser effect. Very distracting. The phase effect is not something I use often at all so I didn't want to spend too much and this pedal fit that bill. But it does increase the background noise to some extent even with the tone knob off. I will continue to try and work around the noise issue for a while but may end up selling this and trying something else. Any suggestions?

Comments about Behringer VP1 Vintage Phaser Effects Pedal:

Can get a nice, subtle phaser effect when wanted. Csn also get a bit whacky if turned up. The background hiss increases when the Tone switch is engaged which is unfortunate as sometimes this is a useful function. It also makes a loud pop when the tone switch is disengaged.

Comments about Behringer VP1 Vintage Phaser Effects Pedal:

The most important thing for any pedal is the sound, and the Behringer Vintage Phaser absolutely kills in this regard. It's added no extra noise that I can hear, and it has a really thick, vintage tone. The only really good sounds exist in the first half of the rate knob's range, however, so if you're looking for a really intense sound, I'd go elsewhere. The on/off switch for the pedal also sounds like a gun going off, and it can be hard to tell if it's in the on or off position. However, I'd absolutely buy it again, and if you plan on using this pedal mostly into a clean amp, I can't recommend it highly enough.

Comments about Behringer VP1 Vintage Phaser Effects Pedal:

This is a really nice phase shifter and if you are on a budget and want good phase shifting for that vintage 70's sound or outlaw country sound like WAYLON and David Allan Coe then this is a great pedal for that style of music. There is a tone switch to the left of the knob. I set mine on the position towards the bottom, the direction of the foot switch, there are only 2 ways to go with this switch, up or down and i use the down position. Then go somewhere between 3 & 5. right in there is right about where a lot of the country pickers that used phase sounds about right. You can get a little crazy with this pedal too and you might even find a sweet spot you like for your sound. Forget buying batteries. IF you have a pedal board, do yourself a favor and get the SNARK power supply and grab a 5 pedal daisy chain or 3 of those daisy chains to hook up to 15 pedals on that same power supply and Musicians friend can hook you up with that. You will be glad you did. You wont have to fight the pedals to get power to them and it makes it less complicated. This vintage phase pedal is pretty much straight forward. Just power it up and plug in your guitar and turn on the amp and find your sweet spot.

Comments about Behringer VP1 Vintage Phaser Effects Pedal:

Behringer nails it again with this classic sounding phaser, I kid you not. Forget whatever bad things you might've heard about Behringer's quality and tone, that's all in the past; they really have their act together these days. With just one knob to set the rate the rest of the tweaking goes on under the hood and the depth, resonance, etcetera is right on the money. The sound I want from a phaser is best described as "organic" and this unit nails it; as good as, if not better than, the legendary MXR Phase 90. I have been looking quite awhile for "the stomp box phaser" and I have finally found it.

I'm not a big phaser guy but needed to add this to my tool box.I really like this thing.Seems well built and good sound quality. There is a slight drop in volume when you engage the pedal but that is very common with any effect of this type.Overall it does what I wanted it to do and am very happy and saved a lot of money as well.

Comments about Behringer VP1 Vintage Phaser Effects Pedal:

I bought this mainly because of the cheap price. The effect sounds great, no complaints there at all. It has the right character for what I wanted. The sound is rich and deep, and the single knob makes dialing a decent sound a breeze.
I use it for bass and there is no drop in low end that I can tell, other than a bit from the phase effect itself. But the nature of what you are doing to the signal is going to do that regardless of the brand or cost. I keep it set around the 2 or 3 range.
Quality is good for the price. It does have a metal housing, but the thickness reminds me of an 80's metal lunchbox that had Knight Rider or The Smurfs on it. Which is to say good, for carrying a sandwich and a bag of chips. I'm just not so sure that it will stand up to being stepped on for years. The switch sounds like it will eventually wear out. It doesn't have the same snap sound when depressed as an MXR or Electro Harmonix. I'm not talking about anything through the amp, I'm talking about the sound the button itself makes even when not plugged in. I'm guessing that would require slightly more force and that could deform the metal.
Do your research before you buy any pedal. YouTube, forums, in store tests, etc... I found something I liked and it was worth the work. If this pedal dies on me I will buy another. But if taken care of and not abused, it should last a long time.
