A compact pedal that gives the famous Rangemaster more range.

The Naga Viper is a booster in the grand old tradition of the Dallas Rangemaster "Treble-Booster". The Rangemaster has been used by many influential British guitarists, including Tony Iommi, Brian May, Marc Bolan, and KK Downing and Glen Tipton of Judas Priest. These guitarists, while completely unique in their styles, share the Rangemaster secret of boosting their cranked tube amps into a juicy, harmonic-laden rock tone that always cuts through the mix.

The Naga Viper is Catalinbread's version of this famous circuit and it enhances the classic circuit with the addition of two extra controls - Range and Heat. The original Rangemaster had just one control - Boost. The Range knob is a continuous control allows you to go from classic treble-boost to a full-range boost and anywhere in-between. The original could only function as a "treble-booster". The Heat knob gives you control over the gain level, unlike the original which was fixed at maximum gain.

  • Classic Rangemaster circuit with additional Range and Heat controls
  • Boosts signal to cut through the mix
  • Traditional pedal size so it can fit on most pedal boards

Comments about Catalinbread Naga Viper (Treble Boost) Guitar Effects Pedal:

I use this pedal as a boost into a clean, slightly broke up and lightly saturated tube amp for varying effects.
When run through the clean channel, the pedal is quite responsive to how hard you pick.
Notes ring clear and true on chords and cut through when soloing.
The Range knob allows you to set the amount of "cut through" you want.
The Heat knob is basically a gain knob to some extent with AC/DC type gain.
The Boost is substantial and highly adjustable.
There is some noise introduced that you can hear when the pedal is engaged but no notes are played.
As soon as you start playing, the noise is completely lost in the background.
Having used multiple treble booster pedals, this is simply the way they work.
I can see this being used as a boost pedal only effect, or an always on effect due to the way it boosts upper frequency harmonics without the icepick effect.
When the range knob is set to full, It kind of "thickens" the treble notes is the best way to describe it.
Tony Iommi, Brian May and Rory Gallagher used the Rangemaster in the 70's.
If you like their tone, and most do, this will be a welcome addition to your board.

Comments about Catalinbread Naga Viper (Treble Boost) Guitar Effects Pedal:

This pedal is not great but it will do the job for you. I didn't like it at first when practicing solos alone but once I got it on stage with the band it performed well with the leads cutting through nicely. It does what it is supposed to do and sounds decent too. I am still trying to decide if it stays on my board or not.
