This thing is NOT the gimmick it looks like on the surface. I needed another overdrive pedal for my bass and I heard good things about the Blood Drive so I figured I'd give it a shot, and honestly it is one of the best purchases I've made here.It can range in tone from dark to aggressive, and from clean to dirty, and from one end to the other it sounds superb when I run my Squier P/J bass through it, and it won't rob your instrument of any of its character. For as good as this pedal sounds, I'm currently at a loss to figure out what other FX I could possibly use on its chain. One of the most incredible aspects of this pedal is its long, clean sustain. It adds some amazing harmonics to my higher strings that I'm not even sure I can replicate with my studio software. This thing's got even more potential than I'd even imagined.Concerning structural quality, it's not the MOST solid pedal I've laid my hands on, but it IS pretty sturdy - no rattles or weak spots, and even the battery (no, not included) is locked in place. Don't let the facade fool you - this is not a toy! Simply awesome all around.

I bought this trying to find my unique sound hoping this would be my break, but nope. What a dissapointment. Saw it on the Blood Drive Ad with John 5 and I love John and his tones, so I got it. But thank god none of J5's tones sound like this on TDKMN, its just not worth the expensive price, save your money, buy boss.

Does exactly what i need it to do

I got this pedal for a little extra boost and saturation on my leads, and it works with a good tone too. The one real down side to this pedal is its huge amount of feedback, but with the way i have it set up in my rig, it doesn't really affect me.So for what i use this pedal for, it works out great, however i wouldn't use it to get any distortion for a rhythm tone, though i like to get my main tone from my amp.

Perfect

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

I have been playing for 9 years now and I have always looked for that perfect drive. Started out with the TS-9 tube screamer (which I am still faitful to), a couple of other bogus pedals which I no longer have. Then went to the Boss Metal zone, which I like, but some times it is a bit much. The blood drive is like my TS-9 on Barry Bonds like steroids. It is insane. This will be the only over drive I use for a long time. I play this through a Marshall avt150h and 1960a cab. Crank it up and it will blow you through the wall, Marty McFly style. Bulit like a tank, looks bada$$. Well worth it.

Really Good

By THEBEAST-PaO0O

I got this for a metal band I'm in. But when I plugged this in, the distortion was perfect for classic rock or blues. Better than any other stompboxes (TS-808, Boss Pedals). Unfortunately, it's not that great for medal, although its good, but for classic rock...WOW. THIS REALLY GOOD FOR A BEGINNER OR ANYONE ELSE. FIVE STARS our of five!!!

Great Bass Distortion Pedal Actually!

By Ethereal Bassist

from Wisconsin

My guitarist actually had this sitting around and I decided to plug it in to my amp with my bass. I turned it on and was shocked at how awesome it sounded. Hes selling it, so I actually might buy it. I have it running through a Fender Bassman 25 with a Fender Precision and it sounds amazing. If you're a bassist looking for a good distortion pedal this is probably a good deal then actually getting an expensive bass distortion pedal.

blooddrive

so I've owned this pedal for about a weekand it ownsI've been a faithful ts 808 user for yearsbut this just blows it awayI'm using a rocktron gainiac preamp and a mesa 2:90 power, to play metal of course, and I like my gain full and saturated, where the tube screamer could lack, this picked up the slackjust a tad more gain to really overdrive my preamp and make is screamI'd highly recommend it, but only to overdrive your amp, I'm not a fan of the straight distortion tones, seeing as the clean channel on the rocktron can really mud things upI play a ibanez prestige 7 string, and like most 7 string guitarists, like my bass strong this takes care of that without really mudding upgreat pedal

Very versatile distortion.

Let me say this straight away: I HATE digital distortion pedals. I've suffered through a DOD Grunge pedal, a Boss GT-8 (great for multieffects but the distortions sound awful), and a Ross Distortion (which was analog and sounded decent, but it was very old and worn out). I wanted something with the warm creamy sound of analog, but was also capable of a lot of gain. Cue this little beauty. I was offset by how death metal-y it looks, but I tried it out and couldn't believe my ears. This thing will go from a nice, bluesy hint of overdrive to a huge crunch (but still rich and warm) depending on how you play with it. It'll work in different situations, on my full stack (my Traynor head is a single-channel) I use it as my primary distortion, but on my Fender combo (2-channel) I use it as an overdrive, which gives a nice little hint of gain on the clean channel and on the dirty channel gives just the right boost to cut a solo through the mix. This is a very useful pedal, it'll really work for any style except maybe death metal (one of the few styles where digital distortion is probably better). It's built like a tank, it's true bypass, the glow in the dark knobs are a nice touch. I gave it a 9 on Features just because I would've liked to have seen this thing have an actual EQ on it instead of just a top-end boost knob. Otherwise, it's perfect.

I was looking to pick up a pedal. i tried about 5 and saw that they had the blood drive on sale so i tried it. wow! I got the exact distortion I've been looking for, a really dead tone. not like it doesnt have one, but like when I play, it reminds me of zombies lol! very sturdy and excellent quality, only thing it needs is maybe one more tone adjustment. definetly recommended for those who whant sounds like John 5 (who uses one) and just sick rock!!

Good pedal, some tweaking required.

By LittleMan

from Maryland

the pedal has a nice sound. there is a level of tweaking required to find the best settings. each knob i found changes the sound more than anticipated. once i sat with it for a while and got the knobs exacly where i needed them it sounded fine. just make sure you have them set precisely where needed, little shifts make a big tone difference.

Blood Drive FTW!

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

Looking at this pedal, and reading some of the reviews, you would expect it to be a medium- high gain distortion, but its not. Be fully aware of what this is and what it will do to your tone before purchasing. If your looking for a gorgeous, warm, VERY low gain overdrive, then this is the way to go, people looking for higher gain should consider other pedals, or this and another pedal to stack it with. Overall, if low gain is what you want, then this is perfect. Warm, Mellow, ALL ANALOG!!! Just gorgeous, buttery OD that pairs amazingly well with a tube amp.

Killer Coffin

I don't own this baby but i have played it.. my brother has it and it offers a huge range of distortion, it doesn't seem like your stuck within the same small range of distortion anymore.. this is an excellent piece from a company that doesn't even specialize in effects!!!

Over priced, but nice features. Can't distinguish what the effect names mean. Button often gets stuck. If you can figure out how to work it, it does sound decent. Only buy for looks/ if you have money.

Great value for any money...

By Scruggs

from Virginia

I bought this pedal at the Stupid Deal Of The Day..Looked like a good value for the money... I use a real 1963 Strat with old EMG-SA's+SPC control through a new Fender Vibrolux Reverb Amp..Was pleasantly surprised to hear this pedal.. It is NOT a distortion pedal.. Sounds more like a real good modded Tubescreamer.. Has a smooth bottom end and smooth overdrive tone... The chip inside is NOT a JRC4558D like most of the good Tubescreamers...This chip is much smaller and has no writing on it.. The circuit board says it was made by Dunlop..The folks who make MXR stuff...Well made pedal with easy battery access door on bottom...At loud volumes like I play it sounded a little bit like a Klon...Fatter than a TS9 or Sparkle Drive and not as in your face.. Not as versatle as the Blue Boy or Crunch Box, and not as touch sensitive as the Box Of Rock... I had the Volume about 11:00 / Tone about 12:00 / Gain about 1:00... When playing at home it sounded very typical, but out on a LOUD live gig it cuts through very smoothly...Maybe like a Klon with a modern high end.. Overall it's a really good sounding pedal and looks real cool to boot... I've played through some of the best equipment money can buy so I feel like I am qualified to make this judgement... You can't go wrong at the price... RS

Very very Bright

By Kelly James

from Weslaco, TX

I would say this would be good for a Les Paulinto the Normal Channel of an old 4 input non master volume Marshall. The tone is somewhat like the tube screamers that keep a bit of clean mixed with the overdrive. This is very trebly, even with the tone all the way down the tone with a single coil was too bright. That's why I say its good for a humbucker into a bassy channel for classic overdrive. In no way is this a heavy metal tone.

sweet sounding distortion

By dimerules007

I tried this unit because I thought it looked really cool. I was really surprised when I did an A/B test with my trusty Zak pedal. The Blood Drive had a much more open and natural sound, it never compresed yet gave me killer singing sustain. I won't do a gig without this pedal and my Marshall 1/2 stack!

NOT BAD

By Sarg

Ive been looking for an OD pedal for a while and saw this as the Stupid Deal of the Day so I thought I would try it. Im impressed. Built tough, looks cool and sounds like what I was looking for. More gain than the SD1 and ZW-44 and sounds better to. I use it to boost my Traynor YCV50 and it works great. If you are looking for high gain distortion then you probably dont want this, but if you need OD or a boost check it out. Get it while its on sale though cause its not worth the regular sale price!

Really good drive

By Rob Haynes

from Windsor, ON

See all my reviews

This is a great little box. On its own its not quite distorion, but a really heavy overdrive. It keeps the tone of your guitar and amp, unlike a lot of digital equipment which makes everything sond the same. Usefull if your amp doesn't have quite enough gain. I use with my 1985 Marshall 5212, and it turns the Marshall's overdrive channel to a distortion machine of death. The blood drive also makes for a good mild overdrive or boost pedal, so its super usefull to just about any player.
