I've owned this pedal for nearly a year, taken it all over the country and it's solid as a rock. I bothered to purchased the FS3X extension foot switch which allows for a more robust use of the pedal. It sounds great through both solid state and tube amps. I have yet to run it through an effects loop. The best aspect to this pedal is its versatility. While you can dial in the "Wind Cries Mary Sound," you can also add gain to the setting to make it crunchier, obviously for the playing of other songs. You get both class A gain and deeper, richer distortion out of it. The effects, such as wah or univibe can be adjusted on the pedal itself. It's not the case that the effects are set to a single sound one finds in a particular song. I think if you like blues/rock/rnb/ 60's or 70's style music you'll find this pedal useful.

First of all, i've always been a Hendrix fan, like every other 2 billion guitarists out there, so I figured, this pedal is perfect. Not only will I sound just like Jimi, but I'll save money by getting all these effects and fuzzes in one. I tried it out before I bought it and all, and I liked it alot. So I took it home and the first thing I noticed was it was nearly impossible to press the toe swith (to turn on the green light, which means i got a faulty one). But I kept it anyway, managing to get by with using all of my body weight in two or three attempts whenever turning the toe switch on or off. Well, I suddenly realized about a month in, that I have no choice but to sound exactly like Jimi with this pedal. Its not very versatile. I like the sounds, epecially the wah, which is very clean, just not deep enough for my taste. So It's been a year since I bought it, and I just about wan't to sell it for a crybaby or vox wah. It's honestly not worth all the mumbo jumbos unless you are a Jimi Hendrix cover guitarist. It is really fun to play voodoo chile or the wind cries mary 30 times a night but the sound is so limited. I can't write my own music with this for sure, even though it would make sense to be able to. On top of all this, you must use a special power adaptor (no battery slots) thats about 3 feet long, which is convenient but not if you dont have an available outlet. The fuzz face tones are really muddy and really make me wonder how Jimi played so clean, and finally I find myself only using the wah, occasionally the univibe. I never use the fuzz or the little wing channel (even though i love the song, specially SRV's version.) I think if you're thinking about buying this, think twice. All of the effects and tones are just so much less accessible than one would think, trust me. Overall, I wouldn't recommend using this as a sound addition because you have no choice but to play Jimis songs labeled. I don't even like the tone on most of the channels. A good idea by digitech, but not versatile enough for an original guitarist.

Awesome Pedal for Great Price

By jbstrat47

from NJ

Wow I love this pedal. I got over a month ago and it doesn't disappoint. Some of the fuzz/distortion settings sound alike, but its little nuances that differentiate each of them. The wah function on Voodoo Child and All along the Watchtower settings are my favorites along with the tape delay on Little Wing. A must for anyone who wants a classic sound thats versatile enough to fit modern music.

Worth every penny!!!!

By Bill M.

from O'Fallon, Missouri

First off, my rig consist of a Marshall JCM2000 Stack, with the following effects in the analog chain: Vox Clyde McCoy Wah, Fulltone Deja 2 Univibe Clone, and Fulltone Ultimate Octave Octavia and Fuzz device. Therefore, I have to say I was a bit skeptical when I head what this pedal can do. Well, all I can say is that it lives up to it's claims. The price of the pedal is worth using it for the Univibe feature alone. I concider this a "Must have" for every guitarist. The Univibe clone is also great for emulating the Robin Trower, SRV and Gilmore tones too. The wah sounds like my Clyde and the octavia is as searing an octive up as you can get.

Amazing Pedal

By Guitar33Dude

This pedal is definitely worth the price. One can achieve many different sounds. Buying individual pedals to get as many sounds would cost well over this price. It is not hard to setup. Just read through the directions first. I would suggest making a copy of the sound chart in the book using Microsoft Excel or Word. This way you can have the chart on your music stand until you get used to where each sound is.Switching between the different modes in the pedal is tricky until you get used to it. Using the heel switch to change modes is the tricky part. You must get your heel on the very end of the switch and apply a general amount of pressure. At first it is slightly awkward to tilt your foot back far enough to change modes but you will get used to it. Make sure you keep your guitar cable clear of the switch otherwise you will be unsuccessfully trying to change modes until you realize where the cable is.I need to seriously upgrade my electric guitar equipment (bought a few nice acoustics first) but this pedal makes my Epiphone by Gibson Strat style guitar and little practice amp sound good!

ALL JIMI

This is by far the greatest pedal out there. If you bought the effects this baby has separate you would end up paying a fortune. The models are very accurate and the concentric knobs are great. The little wing model and the voodoo child(slight return) are awesome. The actual pedal does a lot of different things on each model like switch between intro and solo/solo mode 2. The LED shows you which mode you are in. This puppy puts out an aray of effects including distortion, flange, rotary speaker, univibe, fuzz, and much more. You cant ask for more from a pedal.BUY IT.

Amazing Pedal

By StratPlayer_42

from Salem, IN

I've had this pedal for about a year now and all I can say is WOW. All the sounds are dead on & it's definately worth the money. It's hard to find a Univibe, Wah Wah, Octavia, Fuzz Face, & Lesley Speaker simiulation in 1 pedal. A must if you play Hendrix. And even if you don't, this pedal is still useful, "The Wind Cries Mary" lead tone is great for blues. The expression pedal takes a while to break in, & you need to tweak the settings a little, but once you do that, this thing is near perfect.

An Outta This World Pedal!!!

Ask me a question

I would have to agree with the fact that the toe switch doesn't really help too much. That fact aside I believe that for us, that's people who can't affort a Plexi, it's an amazing thing. This is a little tone dream, several distortions here are really, really creamy and crisp sounding....made out of real good rockin' taste. The solo tone on Purple Haze it's so dead on it' quite frankly rediculus. The Echo on the first solo on the All Along the Watchtower model is really addictive. That same delay with the wah in the second solo produces some serious mind bending sounds. The First solo on Voodoo Chile it's powerful yet creamy. The Foxy Lady Model it's quite simply FAT.I could go on and on, but trust me, if you adore Hendrix, Love Classic Rock and need to spice your licks. Just spend some time writing your lick and then add some phyquidelic colors with this THING. Ahh........If you are a Professional...Go for a Plexi.

The Hendrix Sound!

By SoulPig

from Land Of Oz,Ks

I recently bought this pedal, the effects are excellent! You probably cannot get Jimi's sound any closer than what this pedal gives you. It's only negative is the "toe up" and "heel down" feature's to go from intro to solo, you really have to push the pedal hard to switch from each sound. So durability would be the question here. But I own other Digitech pedals and must say they do their homework when it comes to sound and durability!!! Price was a little steep for the effects you get, compared to other Digitech products. Bottom line, you won't regret buying this pedal, it gives you excellent effects with endless hours of playabilty with the included a/c adapter!!! Yet another awesome job Digitech!!!!!!

Great Sound

By Mike in San Dimas

from San Dimas, CA

See all my reviews

The pedal is very clean as far as extraneous noise, even with a great deal of gain on the pedal. There is no hum when played through an amp that isn't otherwise humming or getting interference. You can set the volume and gain controls on the pedal such that you can have the amplifier on a very clean setting and engage the pedal with lots of attack and not have the volume between the two settings be so out of whack that if you switch the pedal on you are overpowering, or off and you are effectively unplugged. The only reason I gave the quality a "7" is how hard it is to push down the toe button on the pedal, but as a previous reviewer said: "It is getting easier with more use." I previously had to have shoes on to engage the toe pedal. The pedal seems to be made extremely tough and my feeling us it will last a very long time unless it suffers some accident. There seems to be no noise in the potentiometers, switches or the pedal itself. My problem is probably a blessing in disguise. The tonal quality is great whether you are using a tube amp, a solid state tube emulating amp, straight into a board or using a solid state power amp. Obviously, settings need to be changed when switching between output types.

I figured for the money it was going to be pretty good, but WOW...gives you that tone, you still gotta give it the right touch, feel, etc. but you can coax a very convincing Hendrix vibe out in short order if you already know how to go about the guitar end of things. Very well built, heavy. Nice range of control, reset is nice if things get outa whack. Well thought out product. It delivers!

So Far, So Cool

By Crazyleg-Yzbrw

I picked this pedal up this afternoon. It's 10pm now and I'm still finding cool tones and features. Have not had it long enough to judge the quality though. At first I didn't understand the price but after I demo'ed it I thought it was a very cheap price for all you get. No need to be a Hendrix copy to own this thing. Has a great overdriven blues tone,it's adjustable enough to make it your own,and the clear tone are amazing. Oh,and the wah is smooth and cool as can be. I'm normaly a Boss guy but Digitech did a great job and I will be checking more of their products.

Greatest Expression Pedal of All Time

By Wes-r0bT2

from Pikeville Kentucky

I have had this pedal for 6 months now, and I have to say, this is the main gun of my effects arsenal. I have played shows with this pedal runnin into a Marshall Super Lead and it sounds incredible. The only way to describe it correctly is to hear it, its like having Hendrix set up your rig. I have been playing the stuff of Hendrix for 11 years now, and listening to it all my life, and this is the closest anyone has ever come to matching Jimis tone like DigiTech has. I dont just use this pedal for Jimis work, I use it for everything from Hendrix to SRV to ACDC, this pedal does it all... thanx DigiTech!

Tone Heaven!

By Troy Reed

from Belton, MO

See all my reviews

I am using this pedal with a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe and Mesa Boogie .50 Caliber+ with a Mesa 4x12 cabinet. Once great feature that this pedal has is the stereo option. With it in stereo, the sounds come alive like never before. The fact you get all of these tones in one box for this price is a value among values.I personally like the Octavia and Uni-Vibe sounds the best. The only reason why I gave it a 9 on overall rating is because the fuzzes can be a bit harsh and difficult to control. However, that is a minor complaint. I have a seperate fuzz face I use for most of the tunes I play. I primarily use this as an Octavia and Uni-Vibe.I would recommend the optinal footswitch for easier switching to other settings. When I am playing this pedal, sometimes I have to look behind me to see if Buddy Miles and Billy Cox are with me as I feel like I am on stage with the Band of Gypsies. Keep in mind, I am not a digital pedal kind of guy. However, Digitech went all out with this one!

Not worth the price

By BooDaddy-RK_SW

from Ranburne, AL

See all my reviews

I bought this mainly for the uni-vibe and wah. The uni-vibe is awesome on the "Machine Gun" setting. The wah does not have the range of my Cry Baby. After you move past the "cool" factor of this pedal, it is really an average pedal that you pay too much for. After tweaking the thing and playing with it for a couple of months I just can't ever see using it live for anything unless I want to sound like Hendrix - which it will do well. If that's all you want then this is for you. If you think you can use it to experiment and get your own sound out of it, forget it. I am going to sell mine and get a vibe pedal. The thing is well built and mine does not have any issues with the pedal being hard to turn on and off. It's good for what it's good for, not much else.

GuitarZan34

By GuitarZan34

I bought this pedal the day after it hit the stores. I have a 6 piece pedalboard and a small FXprocessor and I haven't touched either of them since I got the Jimi pedal. It took a few hours to discover all the nuances but I wouldn't trade this baby for anything. I'm a huge Jimi fan and have been playing a long time but never felt skilled enough to attempt much of his magic. I used to have trouble with "Purple Haze" but now I seem to be channeling Jimi when I play. I own a Tele, a vintage reissue '57 Strat and a brand new Les Paul Standard. It sounds great on the Fenders but on the Les Paul it is a stone cold monster! The only complaint is some intermittent clicking in the Wah modes. Its probably just me though. This pedal is rather expensive as effects devices go but I think its woth every penny I paid for it. Get one and you're half way to being one with the "Voodoo Chile".

I had the pleasure of running a strat through this pedal into a 50 watt 60s Fender Bassman. It was an abosolutely mindblowing experience. The voodoo child setting has the perfect growling tone. little wing has that slight bite and lush rotary. I also love the acoustic modeler for the intro on all along the watchtower. I absolutely love this pedal. It is well worth the money whether you play Jimi songs or not... these tones are universal. Excellent job Digitech!

Great Pedal that delivers what is promised!

By Craig-SvzBq

I did alot of research before buying this pedal. I thought the price was a bit much, but after getting it home I realized it's worth the price.First things first. This thing sounds amazing. The sounds are dead on and you can tweak them to dial in your exact tone. I have been playing for over 20 years and have some real good gear(EC Strat, Fender Amps, rack pre-amps, stomp boxes, etc.) and this stands up to all of them. I plugged it directly to my Mackie board and my EC Strat and I was almost there. A few tweaks and presto! You can use this thing for more than just Jimi stuff too. I was a little hesitant buying another digital processor. I recently purchased a POD XT and was very dissapointed by the sounds. This really sounds like the real deal. Another cool thing is you can roll of the volume and it's as if you are playing through a real amp. Many of the reviews spoke about the bad design in regard to the heel/toe switching. It's really not that bad. If you are using it live it is the same as turning on and off your wah-wah. It's really not that difficult, however if you use it for practicing and sitting you may want to get the foot controller. I will probably pick on up soon.If you are considering purchasing this do it. You won't be disappointed.

I bought the Digitech Jimi Hendrix pedal to simplify my life. I had a bag of pedals and it was stressing me out. So, I figured I would try the Hendrix pedal. Wow, am I pleased. It does pretty much everything I need. It has the overdrive Marshall thing going and an acoustic simulator.I use the acoustic simulator with the acoustic Martin D-28 setting on my Variax and it has a cool sound. I like it. It?s like acoustic on chemicals ?n- stuff man. Anyway, this is by far the coolest effects pedal I have ever owned, or seen for that matter.

Experience Pedal Awesome Stuff!

First off I am a total tube guy currently owning a Mesa Mark III, Mesa Blue Angel and a wonderful Fender Super Reverb Black Face. It is hard for me to get excited about anything that does not use tubes to produce it's sound. I also have never written a review before. But this pedal so impressed me that I have to say something. The tones on this thing are so right on that it just blew me into a few hours of guitar playing as soon as I got it out of the box. I could have missed an important appointment as I was so caught up in what this pedal is able to do. This thing just simply gets the tones that were there on the original recordings and live stuff. For the first time I have had fun playing Voodoo Chile as the pedal covers every nuance of the original wah factor. The heel forward and heel back control is just pure genius. I even spent a considerable amount of time recording All Along the Watchtower and recording solos over it - and this isa song that I was burned out on hearing! This pedal is one that will make a difference to your tone and one that will make a difference in what the audience hears, it will take an audience back to the original sound. It brought stuff out of my playing that I did not know even existed. Get one and you will not be dissapointed. I have been running mine in front of my Blue Angel with amp set up on the "all 4" el84 setting - but the pedal will sound just as good direct into the board - or through just about any other amp. Pure genius from Roger Mayer and the Digitech folks! I just had to say something. Thanks!

Cool Pedal!

By gg67Frd

from Irving, TX

When I heard there was going to be a Jimi Hendrix model pedal, I thought, ok that'll be great if it kinda sounds like some of Jimi's effects. This thing actually NAILS the sounds it's supposed to. Be warned though, connecting the pedal's amp output to your amp may not get you the sounds you are expecting. I tried this first with a Vox 120 VTX modeling a Fender Twin and also a real '64 Fender Deluxe Reverb and it did not sound right. Then I plugged the pedal's line out to the amp and THAT did it.Also, you'll really have to press hard on the toe and heel switches to make them work. I was sitting on the floor twiddling the pedal's knobs and playing with the sounds and trying to press the switches by hand, and for a while I thought the pedal was defective until I stood up and STOOD ON the pedal to actuate the switches.Even if you don't actually play Jimi's music, the sounds are great for other blues or R&R work, so I definitely recommend you try it.
