for all those out there who are dumb, this is diffrent from a distortion box. it sounds like you are playing through messed up speakers not a distorted amp. the metal box can handle a beating and you can make it sound like any other fuzz box ever made. this pedal rocks.
This is a great fuzz box. The first thing you need to know about this pedal is that you can't just turn everything to 10 and expect to get the sound that you want. You have to play with and tweak it a little bit first. It is great for southern jam style rock as well as dirty texas blues. The pedal looks different from the picture. Mine came in a metalic blue with out the trippy pink blobs the one in the picture has. Great pedal, I would recomend it to anyone that plays rock or blues.
this is a great pedal for hard to find fuzz u should buy 1 well worth your money.
Yes, Yes, Yes..this brings back the sound of the old noisier fuzz tones. Play this through a tube amp turned up LOUD and you'ready to do the 'Star Spangled Banner' at Woodstock! Think, Hendrix, Fever Tree, Strawberry Alarm Clock, Those great sustainy fuzz sounds of the late 60's..this pedal nails it.
I bought this pedal for the sound. and as far as sound matters, this pedal gives me the fuzz that I need. However, the cosmetics are bad. If you like what you're seeing in the picture for this pedal, enjoy it while it lasts because the one that I got was only blue with glue-like markings all over it. Its not such a groovy color after all.
I played this through one of the amps at my local music store, Top Ten Music. I was hoping for this radical new sound coming from this pedal. I get the same sound from my Fender 100-Watt Amp with the overdrive up and the contour on. It's pretty good, i suppose but, i already have this basic sound coming from my amp. Buy it if you really want it.
This is the absolute worst pedal DOD has made. The tone is too heavy with no sustain at all.
this is one quality fuzz pedal.
Okay, I left a review here saying how great this pedal was, blah blah. Well, I take back what I said. Stompboxes normally cut your EQ, this one cut my EQ dramaticly! Here are my setting for the dirty channel: Low 3, Mid 4, High 7, on this setting when the pedal is on it sound like I have my Low cranked up to 9! I can't even EQ it to sound right on the pedal! And on the clean channel (which has the same EQ setting as my dirty channel) it sound like a bee flying around when I play a note. I'm thinking of trading this in for something WAY better. Trust me, unless you like bass-y sound get it, but if you don't like bass-y sounds DON'T get it.
This works great, has a lot of control from smooth to hard Fuzz. More on the high end. I use it along with My GNX2 for additional crunch action.
Slap this between a Stratocaster and an amp with just a smidgen of overdrive - Hendrix. Or, use an SG and put it on the neck pickup - Clapton's "woman tone" from Cream (circa "Disraeli Gears").
Decent Price. The color of mine was NOT at all like the picture on the page. That was kind of disappointing. I really like the coor of it on the page. It sounds good though and with a little bit of fiddling with the knobs, you can get it to sound a bit like a wah pedal near the treble end of things.
This pedal wasnt what i thought it was but i still enjoy using it. I was hoping the pedal would have more low end like the Death Metal Distortion but it has way to much high end to it making it not all that usful to me but i still like it.
This pedal is pretty good .It's got that cool 60's , 70's fuzz sound.Suprisingly , it's warm and smooth , like a vintage fuzz box. Decent sustain, great overdrive punch. The price is unbelivable too. I actually owned the "American Fuzz" in the metallic orange case back in the early 90's . Which is what this one sounds like . If you want a good solid fuzz distortion pedal at a working musician's price , get one of these before DOD stops making them. Rock On!!!!
I bought this pedal because the guy at the guitar shop told me if i wanted a smashing pumpkins-like sound that this would be perfect. And he was not lying, this pedal is everything and more. I recommend you buy this NOW.
cool. works awesomely. now i sound exactly like the doors.
I use to own a Crown Fuzz back in the 60s. They were identical to the Shin-Ei just a different name. Same as the Univox Superfuzz, just a different name and case. Now that was a hellish fuzz, lots of noise, turn it up, don't play anything, and the wind would come out of your speakers. This is not that. This is much more the smooth, dreamy, Pink Floyd, getting loaded sound. That Superfuzz was enough to scare thugs away from a 100 lb prissy dude. This is a great clean fuzz.
IT sounds deep heavy and fuzzee
This pedal is nice because it makes you feel like you're playing out of a broken amp at times. It has amazing power with a nice smooth distortion. I'm not sure what they mean by "bringing back the 60's" or whatever. I like this pedal. The only beef I got is it doesn't have enough bottom. Not enough beef. It's not much of a dallas arbiter but if you want a fuzz face, buy a fuzz face. This pedal is definitely cool and with some amp distortion gives me my perfect sounds.
This pedal allows you to copy a lot of old blues and rock sounds from the hippie days; however, when i'm wanting comtemporary rock distortion, I always turn on my amp's built in distortion. Otherwise, if you want to bring back good guitar playing, this is awesome.
