OVERVIEW

Get amazing vintage Big Muff sound in a modern-day package.

With original late-'70s Op-Amp Big Muffs commanding exorbitant prices, Mike Matthews decided to take the power to the people and reissue the classic pedal at a price that players could afford! The circuitry of the Op-Amp Big Muff—sometimes also referred to as the IC or V4 Big Muff—has been faithfully re-created while several practical enhancements have been added including a compact, die-cast chassis and true bypass switching.

The pedal relies on op-amps rather than transistors and three gain stages rather than four to create its signature sound.

The original Op-Amp Big Muff has many devotees including Billy Corgan, who made use of it extensively on the Smashing Pumpkins’ 1993 album Siamese Dream. After playing the new reissue, Billy said: “The magic’s still in the box; I can still get what I’m looking for!”

FEATURES

Comments about Electro-Harmonix Op-Amp Big Muff Pi Fuzz Effects Pedal:

This is everything you lived about the sound in Siamese Dream, but we're never able to perfectly recreate without spending a fortune on the old op-amp BigMuffs. I've owned many different versions of the BIGMuff throughout the years, and this one is everything you'd want from the pedal. It's got gobs of fuzz and sustain, but I feel like it's got this awesome presence to it that lacks in other Big Muffs. I recommend watching the video of Billy Corgan demoing the pedal. He brings up a great point about how he dialed in the "sweet spot" by essentially turning the tone all the way up and slowly backing it off until you get that weirdly signature blend of frequencies that retains trebly crispness while introducing some lower harmonic frequencies for girth. It was literally a dream (pun intended) to crank up my tube amp and op-amp BM and do a wild gliss up the low E string. Instant Pumpkins. I love it.

Comments about Electro-Harmonix Op-Amp Big Muff Pi Fuzz Effects Pedal:

I really enjoy this pedal, tons of tonal options with the turn of a knob! I the OP switch opens up another side of the pedal so it could eliminate the need for a couple pedals on your board. Flithy fuzz to a very nice musical distortion. Money well spent! Check out my unbox, review and demo video.

Comments about Electro-Harmonix Op-Amp Big Muff Pi Fuzz Effects Pedal:

Nails that Siamese Dream and MellonCollie sound. I compared it to the Nano BigMuff, and there are subtle differences. The OpAmp is tighter, cleaner, and a little bit more aggressive. Once you learn to control it, it's an amazing box. I prefer it over the NanoMuff.

Comments about Electro-Harmonix Op-Amp Big Muff Pi Fuzz Effects Pedal:

I am a Big Mff user for over a decade now. I use a NYC, and have replaced it 3 times. I love them. This is a great Big Mff tone, slightly different from the NYC but pretty close. I've gone through all the variations of the Mff (Russians, Tone Wicker, Metal Mff, Boutique clones etc). None have never quite beat the NYC to my ears and liking. This one is different. I would describe the sound as a little less fizzy and slightly more focused than a NYC. I have both of them on my board. Don't hesitate to pick this up if you like Big Mff tones.
