I absolutely love this Pedal! This works with both active and passive audio signals without tone or volume suck. The minimum and maximum control allows you to adjust the range of your pedal, and will even add a boosted 20+ decibels of gain beyond 100%.

I personally use this at the beginning of my pedal chain for swells since it has a buffered preamp, and will be using an A/B pedal swapper to switch its position between first and last in the chain.

Im in love with this pedal. Check it out, see if it's the right fit for you!

I was happy with the sound and functionality of my MVP, but the internal components are not built to last. I tried out 3 different MVP pedals before buying, and all 3 sounded dramatically different from one another. (So much for quality control and consistency of manufacturing specs.) I bought the one with the sound I liked most. I treat my gear very well, but after only 6 months of jazz gigs (I'm not jumping around onstage with a rock band), the string broke and had to be replaced. Then, only the second time I went to change the battery, the cheap plastic battery clip broke. Had the pedal repaired at an authorized repair shop, and the string broke again less than a year later. The housing is still a solid Ernie Ball housing, but the electronic components and the string-potentiometer mechanism are of poor quality. I have a 25-year-old EB passive volume pedal Made In USA, and it still works perfectly after years on the road--original string, no less! But, now that the new pedals are being made overseas (assumedly to cut production costs), it would appear that the reliability is gone. I'm giving up on EB pedals after many years of loyal use. And, I'm disappointed because the MVP sounded decent. I'm just not willing to have my volume pedal break in the middle of a concert again. Twice is enough!

Comments about Ernie Ball MVP Volume/Gain Expression Pedal:

I have tried several other brands of volume pedals. Either the passive ones sucked the high frequencies out or the active ones had the wrong sweep taper, were noisy or occupied too much space on a pedalboard. This unit with its minimum volume setting, up to 20dB of clean boost and low current requirement really works for me.

Comments about MVP Volume/Gain Expression Pedal:

so far I'm enjoying this pedal. I'm utilizing it as a volume controller
and it works perfectly for that. since it's place is the last position of
my pedals, I can control the effects that I use and I don't have to
bend down to tweak my pedals to get the right sound.
the build quality seems to be very rugged and I wouldn't hesitate
taking it along if I was gigging. so far no complaints and yes, I
would recommend it to others looking for a pedal that's very useful
      for volume or gain control.

Comments about Ernie Ball MVP Volume/Gain Expression Pedal:

It's just what you expect. Solid build, smooth operation. The minimum control seems to range from zero to unity, while the maximum control goes from unity to +20db. So you can use it as a traditional volume pedal, a variable clean boost, or for smith transitions between two set volume levels. Very Nice.

Comments about Ernie Ball MVP Volume/Gain Expression Pedal:

This volume pedal has a great, even volume swell. The addition of gain controls makes the volume pedal even more useful, however. When I'm playing bass, I sometimes want to increase volume for certain passages, but without the sudden change in tone that comes from an overdrive or boost pedal. This does that (I use a few different class D amps). Additionally, this allows me to have greater flexibility with my volume without needing to fiddle with my amp or bass' volume knobs while playing. On guitar, this can act as a nice, subtle boost that can push gain-ier amps (I use an Orange) into some sweet saturation. Great pedal.

Comments about Ernie Ball MVP Volume/Gain Expression Pedal:

I am a home use player and wanted to run this in the effects loop of my 40 watt tube amp to get my preamp crunch without blowing out my windows. I quickly noted that the response was smooth and just what i wanted except that as i neared the full heel position to get the volume i wanted, i was getting some very loud popping from my amp which i worried might blow a speaker. I read online that other Ernie Ball vp owners had noted that there were loose solder contacts on the pot. I took a look and sure enough, one of the solder lugs was loose on mine too. The wire was soldered just fine but the lug was loosely crimped to the little board on the pot. I took the pedal apart pulled the pot out, crimped the solder lug better put it back together (which was a real pain to get the string wrapped correctly and back on the spring). With the pedal back together, it worked great and gave me exactly what i wanted with no popping. This is a great product but could really benefit from some better quality control.

Boost sounds great, no change of tone throughout the sweep of the pedal. The volume sweep feels linear. Using the tuner out does not change the tone. If I could choose one pedal for the rest of my life, this is it.
The boost sounded better than numerous other pedals, including a Scott Henderson RC Booster and a TS-808. Of course it was only through my personal gear, but it does speak VOLUMEs it.

Love the feel and features. I don't need the gain boost with my current amp, tube, & pedal configuration. I have used it in the past though and it functions well. If there is any tone sucking, like several other volume pedals, I have not noticed it. Footprint is about 3.5" x 10". I have successfully used this for multi amp configurations by using the tuner out to another amp. (separate volume pedal for other amp.)

The DC power jack could be located in a better position. The setup on my board had the input/output jack crossed. This interfered with the power jack. I made it work, but it was not ideal. Overall the design is great. It definitely sucks less tone than other Ernie Ball volume pedals.
