Singer-Songwriter's dream amp!

By prettymuliebrity

Comments about Genz Benz Shenandoah Shen 150LT 150W 1x12 Acoustic Guitar Combo:

I bought this amp after testing it and several others in the same price range ? mostly Fenders and Marshalls-but none of them produced even close to the warm clarity that this did for my voice. As a vocalist, this is obviously important to me, but it also produces really clean tones on the guitar. Even though it's only 2 channels I sometimes use all the inputs ? doing 2 vocals, a guitar and a violin. This sounds surprisingly good when I need it in a pinch. I love that you have independent effects control on both channels, but the effects aren't brilliant ? basically there are a few good reverb sounds, but if you want to do anything more creative you will need to use pedals or efx box. The icing on the cake for me with this amp is that it works with many different size venues and it is so lightweight. As a female, it is really important to me that I don't always have to rely on some guys to carry my gear! This is a highly recommend amp for singer-songwriters and serious vocalists and is worth the investment if you are debating an upgrade.

Comments about Genz Benz Shenandoah Shen 150LT 150W 1x12 Acoustic Guitar Combo:

I've owned this amp for 4yrs and gig with it every friday and saturday, It has never failed me and I always get compliments on how nice my guitar sounds. If you are not able to achieve great tone with this amp it is either because of your guitar, your self or both. Genz Benz has a great communication staff!

Comments about Genz Benz Shenandoah Shen 150LT 150W 1x12 Acoustic Guitar Combo:

I just got this amp and I could not be happier!!! I played it today in a 250 seat auditorium where I often play and it filled the room with great sound. I plugged my Taylor 314 and my Larrivee in and both sounded incredible! I also plugged in an SM58 for vocals and all was loud, crisp and clear. Warm bottom end, great transparency. This amp is also very light weight!!!The only thing missing would be the option to have phantom power.

GenzBenz Shen 150 Lt

Comments about Genz Benz Shenandoah Shen 150LT 150W 1x12 Acoustic Guitar Combo:

I purchased the Shen 150Lt in June of 2007 from a music store in Arizona. Initially I was going to buy the Shen 60 which was displayed right next to the Shen 150Lt in the stores sound room. I used one of the stores higher end ovations with a wooden top and I liked the sound of the Shen 150Lt more. The She 150Lt sound had more base and was more alive even though acoustically both amps produced good acoustic sound. My father and big sister, non- musicians, went to the store with me and they noticed the difference immediately. So I shelled out the extra money. At home my primary guitar is an Ovation C 2079. It has both a 1/4 and XLR input. The phantom power on the Shen 150Lt via the XLR connector will not power up the guitars pre-amp so I am stuck buying 9 volt batteries. An ovation representative commented that in order for the guitars pre-amp to work with the amps phantom power a ground to shell connection would have to be made on my guitar. I have not done this as it would have to be done by a guitar technician since I do not know how to perform this procedure. I use the 1/4 input on both guitar and amp. The amp has two identical channels and each channel consists of a set of 1/4 and XLR inputs and a good acoustic band sound can be obtained. My set up includes a Boss Dr3 drum machine, Digitech Jam Man, Morely AB&Y Pedal and a Sure Beta 58A microphone. The sound is very good, clean and would even say professional even though the Morely AB&Y pedal adds some slight minimal hum to the sound. I have played with a another person using 2 guitars and 2 mics going into the amp and that sounded good as well. The phase switches do work and improve the sound under circumstances when multiple instruments/electronic devices are connected to the amp. Feed back has not been an issue but I normally do not turn the master volume above 6or 7. I cannot comment on how loud the amp is since I use it mainly at home and outside under the patio. The different on-board effects are useful with voice and instruments. What I like to do most is play, sing and loop for my own pleasure and sometimes for family and friends. I play mainly rhythym using my fingers without a pick, adding accent notes mainly around frets 1 through 9. I also do fingerstyle. Playing the guitar is a hobbie of mine for over 25 years now and at age 40 I still play nearly everyday. The Shen 150Lt amp is excatly what I was looking for and serves my purpose well. The only negative would be that different effects cannot be assigned to the different channels simultaneously. Thus far I have been very satisfied with my purchase.

Comments about Genz Benz Shenandoah Shen 150LT 150W 1x12 Acoustic Guitar Combo:

I purchased a loud California Blonde II (150w/200w)from musician friend some time ago and I am still very happy with the tone quality, BUT at over 50 pounds it was getting to be a drag lugging it around, plus the spring reverb is a bit sensitive to motion. So I began my search for a lightweight performer.

I tried the Vox AGA150 (150 watts), and although it was lightweight the amp was not acceptable to me for it "clipped" the sound too often resulting in about 2 seconds of silence while I played. Not good during live performances.

I also tried the Fender Acoustasonic 150 (150 watts). Also a lightweight amp, but had no tweeter control and made every guitar I played sound like a tin can; also for a 150w amp it is not that loud.

So, in my continued search for the "holy grail" of acoustic amps, I purchased the Genz Benz Shenandoah LT 150 (150w/200w). This amp is loud, as loud as the California Blonde II. It is also lightweight at 26 pounds. And I am extremely pleased at the acoustic sound, even with my Taylor GC7 ES once you familiarize yourself with the controls. The sound quality is pretty amazing.

The Vox and the Fender are both around the $500 mark, and the California Blonde II and the Genz Benz LT150 are definitely a step up at $750-800.

In the $700-$800 range, the Genz Benz is the lightest and best sounding amp I have found. You get what you pay for. And, I must also give kudos to Musician's Friend for their assistance.

Note: my Genz Benz order was placed on back order for a short amount of time, and as a result I received the asthetic upgrades .... basically they just changed the color to dark brown and a new grill and logo, the amp remained the same. Has the look of a loud serious performer that it is. Hook up an 8 ohm cabinet and the it pushes out 200w of clean power that able to cut thru anything.

    Not what I expected

Comments about Genz Benz Shenandoah Shen 150LT 150W 1x12 Acoustic Guitar Combo:

I bought one of these after reading good reviews on it. I was very disappointed in it and am returning it. To start off with, the company would lead you to believe this amp is made in the U.S. NOT. Its Chinese. I have considered trying an Ultrasound but I am pretty sure those are made in China as well. The website says, "designed and tested in our US factory". What they fail to say is that its actually made in China. As soon as I recieved the box it said,"Made in China" on the side. I immediately got bad vibes about it. I opened up the box and got the amp out and the "Genz Benz" name plate had fallen off the grill and was laying in the bottom of the box. At this point I am thinking,"this is a cheap amp" but I figured who cares if its mades in China or if the logo fell off the grill IF it sounds good. After demoing it the amp just dosnt produce good acoustic tone. I am playing a Taylor GS8 w/ expression system, Granted, the expression system could have a bit to do with the "tinny" sound I was hearing out of this amp.ZNot really sure. Its VERY "tinny" sounding as in tin can. The effects sound really jiffy. Not at all what I expected. If the amp was priced at around 350.00 it would be decent but I was willing to spend more to get a quality sound. Not from this amp. So I am gonna look into perhaps a Traynor or a MarkBass Mark Acoustic.
