Overview

A striking recreation of the guitar amp that shaped Green Day's Dookie sessions.

With the release of Dookie in 1994, Green Day helped define ’90s pop punk with a bold, brash sound driven by massive, high-gain guitar tones. That unmistakable voice was shaped in large part by the modified 1959 Super Lead that Billie Joe Armstrong used during the album’s recording sessions. Developed in collaboration with Billie Joe, the UK-built Marshall 1959BJA Billie Joe Armstrong Artist Series 100W amp head faithfully recreates the legendary Dookie Mod in a single-channel, cascading-gain design. The circuit delivers thick saturation, aggressive crunch and enhanced sustain, while a factory-installed master volume makes those tones more accessible at practical playing levels. Enhanced low mids add body and punch without sacrificing the bite associated with Marshall’s celebrated 1959 circuit. Finished in Baby Blue as a tribute to Billie Joe’s first guitar, “Blue,” the 1959BJA pairs one of punk rock’s most influential amplifier sounds with unmistakable signature style.

Dookie Mod Circuit for Legendary Punk Crunch

At the heart of the 1959BJA is a faithful recreation of the storied Dookie Mod circuit that helped define one of modern punk’s most recognizable guitar sounds. In place of the traditional dual-channel architecture of a standard 1959 Super Lead, the amp uses cascading gain stages that drive the preamp harder for a thicker, more aggressive response. Its enhanced low-mid character gives power chords added weight and riffs greater punch, while the familiar bite of the 1959 circuit helps lead lines remain clear and focused. The result captures the explosive energy of the original modification while retaining the dynamic response and expressive feel expected from a classic all-tube Marshall.

Master Volume and Gain Controls for Complete Command

Unlike a traditional Plexi, the 1959BJA provides independent Gain and Master Volume controls that make its signature voice easier to manage across a range of playing environments. Gain determines the amount of cascading preamp saturation, while the Master Volume lets players explore everything from articulate edge-of-breakup tones to the amp’s unmistakable Dookie-era roar without relying solely on extreme output levels. Treble, Middle, Bass and Presence controls provide the familiar Marshall EQ response for shaping the amp’s overall character. High- and low-sensitivity inputs offer additional flexibility for matching the amplifier to different guitars, pickups and playing approaches.

100 Watts of Handcrafted Marshall Authority

Handcrafted in the UK, the 1959BJA pairs three ECC83 preamp valves with a quartet of EL34 power valves to deliver the punch, dynamic response and commanding projection associated with classic Marshall amplifiers. Its 100W all-tube power section provides substantial headroom while retaining the lively feel and harmonic complexity players expect from the 1959 platform. Selectable 4-, 8- and 16-ohm speaker outputs support a range of compatible cabinet configurations, giving players flexibility when integrating the amp into stage or studio setups.

Baby Blue Finish Honoring Billie Joe’s First Guitar

The 1959BJA’s striking Baby Blue finish pays tribute to Billie Joe’s first guitar, “Blue,” giving the amp an appearance as distinctive as its voice. Brass and silver control panels, custom Dookie branding and a reproduction of Billie Joe Armstrong’s signature complete a design that celebrates one of punk rock’s defining eras while retaining Marshall’s iconic visual identity. These signature details connect the amplifier directly to Billie Joe’s musical history and the landmark album that inspired its creation.

A Signature Marshall Inspired by a Punk Icon

From the breakout success of Dookie to decades of albums and arena tours, Billie Joe Armstrong has played a defining role in the sound of modern punk rock. The 1959BJA returns to the foundation of that sound with a faithful recreation of the legendary Dookie Mod, enhanced low-mid punch and a more practical master-volume design. Handcrafted in the UK and finished in Baby Blue, the Marshall 1959BJA Billie Joe Armstrong 100W amp head combines authentic Dookie-era character, modern usability and unmistakable signature styling.
