Comments about Marshall Origin50H 50W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I've had this a couple of weeks now, and so far, I'm very pleased. I'm running the head through an Orange 2x12 open backed cab with V30s. I've also managed to work through my entire collection of five Strats, one Tele, a Les Paul, an SG, a Firebird, and a Guild Starfire.

First, this thing LOVES Strats. Particularly the ones with vintage-voiced pickups. Nice cleans, and a smooth, creamy overdrive. It takes my Tube Screamer and reverb pedal well. In fact, the Guild with a lot of reverb and the gain dialed back really nails the "The Thrill Is Gone" tone.

It also has a really nice growl with the Gibsons. Loads of sustain.

The power attenuation feature is incredibly useful. At the mid level (roughly 10W), I'm pretty sure it will hang with the band I occasionally sit in with. If not, a simple click of the switch and it can melt faces. It's really, really loud.

The most important thing to remember about these models is that they are NOT designed for metal. They are meant to have a vintage voice. Even with the gain knob all the way out, you are not going to get metal. In fact, I do think that at the highest gain levels, there is a bit more hiss than I would like.

But I don't use that much gain. I get the amp to the edge of breakup and then get any additional gain with the TS. I suspect it will take a fuzz pedal equally well.

If you are looking for a speed metal amp, keep looking. But if you are looking to recreate those great blues and classic rock tones, (Clapton, Allman Bros, Zep, etc.) this is a great amp.

The build quality also seems first rate. I know some people are concerned about the amp being the first Marshall to be made in Viet Nam, and I understand that concern. But I can see nothing wrong with the build.

For me, the amp was definitely worth the wait.
