Comments about Modtone Special Edition Phaser:

Although the Modtone is not as lush sounding as the MXR, it sounds very good for high gain applications, because it's voiced with kind of thin sound, the Modtone does a great job though, and it doesn't "suck" your tone or overwhelm your amp, it's just a really nice subtle more modern effect. But if you want the classic phase sound go with an MXR.

Comments about Modtone Special Edition Phaser:

I love phase pedals, they are my favorite effect. I don't know how many different phase pedals I've owned over the years but it is well over a dozen, all different kinds from mellow to extreme. For many years now my main phase has been an old Ross pedal, it remains my favorite phase. It is a little more intense than the old MXR phase 90s. While my Ross is great for most of my needs I wanted to get a second, mellower phase for more classic, vintage sounds.

I tried a new phase 90 but they don't sound the same as the old ones, so I decided to get a script phase 90. Then I saw the Modtone on sale. The Atomic Phase II is very different from the original Atomic Phase. The original boosts the treble to help cut through the mix but the Atomic Phase II was just what I was looking for - that classic, early '70s phase 90 sound but with a character all its own.

It was a great deal on sale but I would still say it would be worth it at full price.

Comments about Modtone Special Edition Phaser:

This phaser is small and fun. Very useful and has a sweet tone. Yes there are better phasers on the market and special effects like phasers, flangers, chorus etc.. are my specialty. It is no "Subdecay" but for lead guitar it adds a nice subtle sheen, not an over the top sound and it doesn't dominate your sound. If you are looking for a crazy effect, this is not it, but turned all the way up the effect is very interesting, but still very light. For fitty bones it is a steel, for a hundy you will have weigh it against other phaser pedals in that price range, it is still cheaper than most so it is still a good bargain. Modtone is cool and they are true bypass and my original tone when the unit is turned off sounds great. This one is a winner.

Comments about Modtone Special Edition Phaser:

The phaser provides a sweet vibrato-like effect (with elements of chorus and delay)to sentimental music (think country, Irish), when used as intended.

Typically it will have two controls: rate and depth. These controls are effective ONLY when they track each other, i.e., BOTH controls at 11 o'clock, 1 o'clock, 2:30 o'clock. Operating the phaser controls at extreme variances (e.g., 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock) results in atonality.

Pot-heads like atonality and have given a new slant on the use of the phaser. Please use as intended: with a Fender tweed and gospel music.

Great pedal have been looking for some new pedals for a long time and found this modtone phaser as the deal of the day. I had never heard of modtone pedals but now I am a huge fan and am in the process of saving for a few more mod tone pedals because they are that good so thankful my wife bought me this awesome pedal.

Comments about Modtone Special Edition Phaser:

Being a guitar addict, I am ashamed to say I have never owned a phase-pedal. I really only tested ones on amps in music stores (You know how that is). UNTIL, I came across the warehouse sales and saw this cool pedal on sale, I decided the Atomic Phase was definitely going to be my first phaser.
Aesthetics- it has a VERY groovy vintage orange cool, and the knobs are nice and easy to maneuver.
Sound- now when I first plug this baby in- I had set the rate to about 3 o'clock and the depth to 1, I was very satisfied with the sound. This phaser though, is not like Zakk Wylde's, it is not as strong, but it delivers a nice and eerie tone that gives you either a haunting suit or a space like atmosphere.
To say the least, this pedal is amazing and I am sure glad I got. AND WHILE ON SALE, it makes it even better.

BOTTOM LINE, even if it was not on sale I would have got it. Very satisfied with my purchase.
