Silktone Fuzz+ Germanium Fuzz Pedal - Teal

The Silktone Fuzz+ germanium fuzz pedal expands the expressive range of a classic two-transistor fuzz while making its tones easier to shape, recall and integrate into a modern signal chain. Handbuilt in California, it centers on two germanium transistors paired with an adjustable Bias control and active LED meter for dialing in everything from gated and spitty fuzz to the circuit’s traditional sweet spot and fuller, stickier textures. Cleanup works with an onboard pickup simulator to recreate the response of rolling back a guitar’s volume, while Bass Shape and Treble Shape condition the signal before it reaches the fuzz circuit. A dedicated Raw footswitch bypasses those controls for immediate access to full fuzz, and the pickup simulator allows the Fuzz+ to work after buffers and other effects. Higher output and standard center-negative 9VDC operation further adapt this vintage-inspired germanium design to modern pedalboards.

Active Bias Control Unlocks Repeatable Fuzz Textures

The Bias control adjusts the operating voltage of the Fuzz+ germanium transistors, opening a wide range of clipping characteristics from the same circuit. A reading around 1.00 produces gated, spitty fuzz, while approximately 4.50 reaches the traditional sweet spot associated with classic fuzz circuits. Moving higher brings progressively fuller textures, with 6.50 identified as fat and 7.50 as sticky. Because germanium transistors respond to temperature changes, the active LED bias meter provides a numerical reference rather than relying solely on knob position. Players can remember a preferred reading and quickly return the circuit to that bias point when conditions change.

Cleanup and Tone Controls Shape Pre-Fuzz Response

Cleanup works with the pickup simulator to mimic the effect of reducing a guitar’s volume before it reaches the fuzz circuit, providing access to sparkly boost, light overdrive and cleaned-up fuzz textures. Bass Shape adjusts the incoming signal from tight and forward to full and round, while Treble Shape gently rolls off high frequencies for a softer response. Both tone controls operate as part of the Cleanup circuit before the signal reaches the fuzz stage, so their effect is especially noticeable at cleaner settings. This arrangement provides more control over how the germanium circuit is driven instead of simply applying EQ after the fuzz has been created.

Raw Mode and Pickup Simulation Expand Pedalboard Flexibility

Engaging the Raw footswitch bypasses Cleanup and the tone controls, returning the Fuzz+ to its full raw fuzz response without requiring knob adjustments. The onboard pickup simulator addresses another traditional germanium-fuzz limitation by allowing the pedal to retain guitar-like interaction when buffers or other low-output-impedance effects are placed before it. Silktone also increased the available output compared with the original Fuzz, allowing the pedal to drive an amplifier harder in full fuzz mode or operate as a colorful germanium boost when cleaned up. With standard center-negative 9VDC power and daisy-chain compatibility, the Silktone Fuzz+ pedal combines wide-ranging germanium textures with practical flexibility for a modern pedalboard.
