OVERVIEW

Big power and features without the backache.

The TC Electronic BG250-210 bass combo amp took the power and tone that made the Bass Amp 2.0 line so popular, and then loaded it up with top-notch features. The 2x10" 250W combo comes equipped with a built-in tuner, 3-band intelligent EQ and, of course, TC Electronic's trademark TonePrint system that allows users to beam professionally made effects and tones from their smartphones directly to the BG250-210, controllable with an optional footswitch.

Other features include six effects types - chorus, flanger, vibrato octave, SpectraComp and Bass Drive - a headphone output (which mutes the speaker), auxiliary input to play along with your favorite tunes, USB mini port, a mute button for quiet tuning, and a balanced XLR output for direct recording in the studio or a clean feed to the mixer for live playing.

Comments about TC Electronic BG250-210 250W 2x10 Bass Combo with 2 TonePrint Slots:

I'm pretty much in love with this purchase. I already own the RH750 and a pair of 2-10 cabinets. That rig sounds great, with incredible flexibility, is highly portable, and is a breeze to setup. However, it is way too loud for rehearsals and dinner venues, and I like to add a chorus and reverb during my solos, which meant that I needed to bring more stuff, setup more stuff, and worry about more stuff.

The BG-250 is a single-carry amp with everything I need right in it. I got it for rehearsals, but the sound is big enough to play medium sized shows with, with an incredibly deep bass response (rattle the windows type). The two TonePrint slots allow me to have two effects ready to go at any one time.

BUT

The midrange on the amp was designed by someone who thinks midrange means honk, instead of thinking midrange means Jaco-like tone and harmonics. On the RH-750, my sound is dialable, and I get compliments all the time. So far, I haven't been able to get my 6-string Ken Smith and this amp to sound right to me. The midrange knob controls whether I hide the honk or make it more dominant. It doesn't control the midrange. I'm going to download the TonePrint editor, and see if there's a way for me to fix it in there. I'll come back and add info about my experience with that. 03/09/14

Comments about TC Electronic BG250-210 250W 2x10 Bass Combo with 2 TonePrint Slots:

BG250 2x10 has been a money pit since the day I got it. So happy to finally cut my losses.

The amp was great for about 2 months. Then it started rattling and crackling. Had to send to TC to fix because no local techs in Milwaukee would touch TC stuff due to Tone Print components and proprietary parts (which happen to be unreasonably priced too). Anyway, got TC to waive everything but shipping costs as it was under warranty. Fast forward a year - amp suddenly won't power on. TC wants 200-275 to ship it out and for parts and labor. The amp is 360 new, you do the math. Tried to source the repair locally and order the part myself. The part is still over 100 with shipping, then another 50 for the dude to crack it open. This amp is made poorly, and doesn't cut it. The "proprietary tech" is a con job. I used the Tone Print like twice. Not worth it. Reviewing everywhere and telling people to save for a better amp. Even if the weight and price-point is tempting. Such a huge disappointment, they got my 360, so what the heck do they care at this point.

Comments about TC Electronic BG250-210 250W 2x10 Bass Combo with 2 TonePrint Slots:

Ive messed around with drums, bass, and guitar for years....mainly just sitting in and jammin type type stuff. Ive recently started playing bass regular with some guys and needed a bass rig. After quite a bit of research I picked this. The amp has great power, and is very clean. Once you get used to the smart tone controls, you can dial it in nicely. I havent even explored the toneprint section yet, and I think the amp is a pretty smokin deal.

Product is a lot of fun to play with. I play a lot of country music though, and the lows in this aren't good enough, so am likely returning it. This would be a great amp for jazz, rock or heavy metal. There are many tone prints supporting those genre styles.

Comments about TC Electronic BG250-210 250W 2x10 Bass Combo with 2 TonePrint Slots:

This is a great sounding amp, the first I've owned that provides the tight, funk definition I've been looking for, without having to resort to cranking the treble...never a satisfying solution. Part of this is due to the two-ten configuration, but I've had two-ten cabinets before, and never with the tightness of this one. The limitation of course, is that, as a 250 watt combo, this is hardly an amp for large venues. But for smaller club gigs, as well as in studio and rehearsal applications, this rig is plenty.
Now, about the Tone Print feature. While sampling the numerous online-available offerings is great fun in practice (that is, after figuring out that a humbucker needs to be switched to single-coil, in order to receive the download signals from a smartphone), in professional situations, with only a blend knob, this amp just doesn't offer the adjustments necessary to find the exact right configuration for each piece of music. What you really need is the actual device itself...in which case I suggest that you look at Tone Print as a convenient (and cost-free) way to audition various kinds of sound-shapers, before you make decisions about which ones to buy. All in all---and especially considering the affordable price---I consider this an outstanding and versatile bass amp.

Comments about TC Electronic BG250-210 250W 2x10 Bass Combo with 2 TonePrint Slots:

I was using a Carvin MBX setup for the last 3 years and was really never happy with the tone I got out of it with my Ric 4003. I decided it was time to retire that rig and switch to something that complimented the Ric better. This amp is the answer! The TonePrint is an interesting feature, but honestly, I never use it! The amp is geared in the mid/high range but still thumps for only being a 2x10. 3 band EQ is nice for quick plug and play setup. Built in tuner is a great addition. The 250 watts is plenty of power for every venue I've used it in from dive bars, to pretty large night clubs and it never loses the quality of sound. Some people mention it's a "weak" 250 watts. I disagree. On top of all that, the weight of this amp is great! Nice and light.

Bought this amp because of reviews and also the fact that I needed a light bass amp combo. The sound of this combo is pretty surprising for such a small combo. Not too many controls, just enought to dial in that sound. I've bought many combos and this one is by far the best. The toneprint section is a nice added bonus as well.
