I bought a 5 string Curbow about a year ago on the advice of a friend. I play the way Hendrix played guitar (left-handed/upside down. I play every weekend and with the exception of the original machine heads I couldn't ask for anything more. I find it incredibly responsive with lots of punch when you need it. I was truly amazed at the Bartalini pickup and the range of sounds you can reproduce like a Fender Percussion or Jazz, Gibson EB series from the 70's. I would recommend this bass to anyone who plays a wide range of music and it can cover it all.==

I received this bass several days ago. When I opened the box it looked fantastic. After tuning the instrument I realized it could not have been set-up, as the string height was way high. I adjusted the truss rod over the next two days until it had no more adjustment and was attempting to strip out the head. The bass still had high action. I decided to try a light string (40-120) set to relieve the bow in the neck. While changing the strings, I realized the nut grooves are smaller than the factory strings sizes because when I pulled the E string out it took the nut with it. After the epoxy was set I realized the light strings helped some. This is a nice looking instrument, well designed and utilizing innovative materials. I wish that the construction was a little more robust.

Fun Bass

By LONGO121486

from Averill park NY

I bought this bass two years ago and never regreted it since. im only 18 now but i plan to keep this bass till im at least 50, the only drawback is the small body, well not to me, its funny to watch people who are unfamiliar with the bass to sit it on there laps and watch it slip. over all its a great bass with some sick sound i love it.

Great Bang For The Buck!

I recently bought the Cort Curbow 5 string. This is a great bass for what you pay. I have been playing for over 25 years and have quite a selection of basses in my arsenal and must say that this little bass is well on the way to being my favorite for performing. Tight construction all around, the 5 bolt neck is solid and doesn't budge a bit. I love the massive bridge/tailpiece. Electronics are great, I especially like the active/passive switching. As far as sound goes this baby growls. Nice tight high that are very reminiscent of my Rickenbaker but still with a hefty low end punch. My only concern is that it doesn't balance at all when sitting, but when worn with a strap it balances fine.

I have played over 30 different brands of basses and this is the best one. It's made for any type of music. I play mostly hard rock to death metal and it rocks.

When I first played this bass in a music store, I was amazed. Now that I own one I feel more content with it and myself, because it has remarkable action.

The sound is just awesome, the horn is a little too short, but I can live with that!

Small fully playable body, perfect for high notes

By FleaWannaBeSays

It is good bass for a person who is experienced, not for a beginner. It has 25 frets that are playable from the deep cut-away.

I have had the 6 string version for 2-3 years and its amazing. The slap switch is a cool thing to have. Tone is amazing even when your strings are getting worn out. Overall this is the best bass ive played out of many.

I got this bass as a personal Xmas present and this bass does some some serious in all applications. The slap switch gives just the right amount of sound I need for pop and slap style. I wanna get a four string model of this in the future.

Had this bass for about 2 years now and I have to say even today I still play it regularly. The slap switch is nice to have. I have a Spector and upper echelon Fenders and this thing keeps up pretty well.

This is a nice bass

By #1scottdalereviewer

from Scottdale,PA

I thought it had a very nice sound for slapping and popping, also good for fingerstyle and fingertapping the one pickup on it is pretty hot, and you can get a good many different tones out of it. Personally I felt the strings were pretty close together on the 5 string model but it was great to solo on, may not be a good thing if you use a pick though, and looks awesome would make someone a very nice 5 string to add to their bass battle weapons array.

Love it!!!!!!!!!!!

By madman_bassist

from Thomasville, GA

I have had this bass for about 4 months and I love it. I love the low end that is very accessible. I love the low cut away. Basically the whole thing is a dead wrap up for a bass. Like I said it has been close to for months and (though I'm getting new ones) I am still playing with the same strings. My last bass the strings lasted for 2 months so it is awesome right "out of the box"!

THE ONE THE ONLY THE CURBOW!!!!

By Unclesamx13x

from Pueblo, CO

i resently bought a cort curbow looking for a good bass with more than 24 frets it plays amazingly well for the price i paid for it its worth every penny. the passive/active switch is a huge help and the extra fretts just gives me more to work with. it hangs in there with my ibanez iceman and my deluxe fender P-bass. i highly recomend this bass for jazz of any kinda and some good ol'funk the slap depth toggle is a great feature i think all basses should have

Sweet Bass

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

This bass has a faster action than an Earnie Ball Stingray, I've played them side by side. It is off balance without a strap, but it can be played on your knee, just lay your right arm heavily over it. The deep cutaway is well worth the off balance-ness of it. Balances great with a strap! It has a toggle switch for passive/active pickups. The passive mode is nice and mellow, good for walking bass lines. The active mode is bright; great for slap, tap, and other punchy styles. The "Ebonal" fretboard looks like ebony, and I'm guessing it is the same wood they use to make clarinets out of, it is not plastic or a synthetic because if you look closely, you can see the wood grain. Light strings aren't the best for it, because if the temperature changes, it may go slightly out of tune, so use at least mediums (I love Super Slinky's). I love this bass because it is light, fast, and has a terrific tone. By the way, there are two proportional adjustemnts (potentiometers) for the active pickup mode so you can tweak it to your style. Buy this bass!!!

Simply Stunning

This bass is a fantastic purchase. I play a jazz/funk/ rock fusion and the clarity and tone are very good. The cutaway allows for quick access to high end fretwork and the overall feel of the neck and body is very comfortable. When I am on stage, I get a lot of positive comments from other bass players, who are usually curious as to what kind of bass it is. Even when I decide to get a new bass, this one will never leave my arsenal.

Cort 5-string

By toolrules2345

I have had this bass for 4 months and I am completely happy with it.The slap switch feature has really come in handy because it fits with my slap-bass playing style and allows me to boost the bass up and back again in a fraction of a second.I also like the styling of this bass because it has earned some envious looks at shows. I like the spacing between the strings because it is close enough for quick playing, but yet far enough away for slapping and popping.I also like this bass because unlike most 5 strings I have played, the extra low-b string sounds full, and not somehow quieter than the rest of the strings. Overall, this is the best bass I have ever played.

My dream bass but...

By Bedford

from Iowa

See all my reviews

I had my eye on this bass for a VERY long time at least a a couple years. I got to play a few of them so I knew I liked the sound and feel then I was in a position to order mine FINALLY. I open the box and the thing doesn't even come with the tiniest slip of paper explaining what each knob is, not a big deal, not too hard to figure out but still you would think it would be there. Next the thing looks GORGEOUS at first glance.. then I got a chance to stare at my dream bass for a few minutes, where it curves at the body to meet the neck on the front there are some minor chips and just a bit off on paint there second there is a long thin scratch down the back of it. Needless to say this bothered me a bit.. I'm considering returning it because of that to get another one.. but I'm not sure yet because I know it will get scratched eventually anyway but I want it to be me who does the scratching! Oh and the strings that are on it are very "lanky" sounding really no other term I can use to describe them. haha Overall this thing is great, plays well, no issues with the action of it or anything just a majority of minor things that earn it a .5 off its otherwise 5 rating.

punchy bright bass

By subsonic5

this bass has alot of punch to it. it cuts through very well no matter how many or what the guitar player's doing. the string spacing is a little tighter than alot of basses. works great for rock, punk, any fast aggressive music but not so well for country.

I tried a lot of basses trying to get the wide variety of sound I need for the different kinds of music I play. You can get from deepest to good slap tones from this, that's hard to find. Very good bass for the money.

I've just recently became the owner of a Cort Curbow 5 String and overall... it's the best investment I've made in a long time. If ever there is one bass you want to play in your lifetime... MAKE IT THIS ONE!
