Comments about Danelectro '58 Longhorn Bass Electric Bass Guitar:
Surprisingly quiet and powerful PUs for single-poles. Tone is subjective, but I like it a lot. I find it balanced with plenty of character. No neck dive and comfortable to play sitting down. A bit overpriced considering you can have a Rogue Viola short-scale bass for about half the price and about the same quality. But that's the price to own a name. Still worth the money. Quite enough to record and very light for stage. .
The controls are hard to get used to. I've never seen stacked controls with the tone on the top. When you adjust the round volume control, the pointed tone control comes along for the ride. So you must readjust the tone every time you change the volume. maddening. The bridge has one saddle (like an acoustic guitar) making it difficult (or impossible?) to adjust individual strings for intonation. (I haven't yet tried to adjust intonation. Height adjustment is decent, not great.
Mine came set up nicely. No adjustments required. No fret buzz and nice action. Intonation was very good even at the 24th fret. I'm surprised the non-name, Kluson look-alike pegs hold tune so well. Round wound strings sound real nice on this bass. Haven't tried flats.
Non countersunk screw heads on the back of the body are typical on these basses. I guess it's part of their charm. I'd prefer if they were countersunk so they wouldn't rub against me when playing.
Purely subjective, I find this neck very comfortable. Frets are finished very well for this price range. The entire finish is very well done. The copper tone burst is very nice as is the cheesy plastic applique around the sides. I continue to be impressed with the work done in Korea. 30 years ago we thumbed our noses up at Japanese-made guitars. Now they command prices equal to American-made instruments. Korea isn't far behind

Comments about Danelectro '58 Longhorn Bass Electric Bass Guitar:
I do not normally buy "new" instruments. But after listening to the sound of this bass on older recordings, I wanted to play and listen to this bass guitar. This re-issue model has a warm sound, and the blends between the 2 pick-ups provide for a variety of tones. The craftsmanship is good, the finish is good, and the fact that this is a short-scale neck with a light-weight body make for an easy playing experience. This bass has a 1 piece wooden bridge that cannot be intoned via bridge saddles, but the intonation is very very close to true. The round wound strings that it came with sound great, but you need to get the smallest bass string gauge for replacement. The only downside regarding this instrument, in my opinion, is that you need to get the longest strap you can find, as the neck strap button is set in an unfamiliar position. This bass played live thru a vintage Fender Bassman and a newer Carvin stack gave me the old Dani sound I wanted to hear. Not my first choice for sound, but a welcome addition to my options.

Comments about Danelectro '58 Longhorn Bass Electric Bass Guitar:
Tone is opinion and therefore subjective. I like the old school sounds of Jack Bruce, Paul McCartney and rock of the early 70s. I now play in a Country/Southern Rock cover band and an original band that plays "Americana". It also seems to fit the Blues as well. Round, warm sound. I use short scale tape wound strings to enhance that sound. I get comments on its sound all the time from musicians and audience members. It has held up well for over 20 years and has been my main bass. I changed the bridge to an adjustable "pro" after the wooden bridge got grooved from playing all the time and I re-glued the plastic strap button about ten years ago. No other fixes have been needed. Slight improvements have been made since my 90's reissue was built. I love it and so have band mates over the years. Four+ hour gigs and jam sessions are no problem. This is lighter than many six strings!
