OVERVIEW

Get the low-end tone from some of today's biggest acts.

Known as a true renaissance man of the modern music scene, Justin Meldal-Johnsen’s bass credits include Beck, Nine Inch Nails, Drake and more. His production credits include Jimmy Eat World, Paramour and M83, among others. JMJ is a shining example of today’s breed of multi-genre musician/producers, ever pushing boundaries and inspiring others.

From studio to stage, Justin’s treasured ’67 Mustang Bass is his tool of choice. Fender teamed up with him to create a signature 4-string modeled after his vintage Daphne Blue instrument—the Justin Meldal-Johnsen Road Worn Mustang Bass. Powered by a custom-spec split-coil pickup, the JMJ Road Worn Mustang bass is perfect for laying down punchy basslines with plenty of Fender mojo.

The 30” scale gives it a tight, focused tone while the modern 9.5”-radius fingerboard with rolled edges offers a familiar feel that will make any bassist feel right at home. Designed for comfort and speed, this bass also has stage-ready style. From the nicks and picks scratches on the body to the worn-in feel of the neck to the aged hardware, this bass shows the marks of an instrument that has earned its stripes out on the road.

Check out the unique tone and amazing feel of the Justin Meldal-Johnsen Road Worn Mustang Bass.

Comments about Fender Justin Meldal-Johnsen Road Worn Mustang Electric Bass:

I have to admit I didn't know who Justin Meldal-Johnson was when I first saw this bass unveiled at NAMM. Once I googled him, I realized he is responsible for the bass and production of some of my favorite music. Doesn't matter though, I'm just glad Fender collaborated with him to make this amazing bass.

I previously played a fantastic full scale Fender Highway One Precision bass, but moved down to a Squier SS Jaguar bass and found I really preferred the shorter scale and size of the bass.

The road wear on this is stellar, not too overdone, just right in all the right areas. The lollipop Hipshot tuners look awesome and work even better. The flat wound strings sound and feel great. There is some slight neck dive on mine, but nothing a suede strap can't fix. Mine happens to weigh 7 lbs 11 oz, not as light as I would prefer, but I don't care.

All in all, I couldn't recommend this bass enough.

Comments about Fender Justin Meldal-Johnsen Road Worn Mustang Electric Bass:

The road worn is not over done. as to be expected all hardware is also road worn. Now for the feel, it is amazing the neck feels very comfortable and fast no dead notes. The body resonates very well even with the flatwound strings. Intonation was a bit off not a problem. The volume tapers off consistently and the tone works very well dark to deep. The pickups are the stars here very punchy and well defined. Observations: this mustang bass is a bit longer than a fender music master so be careful if you buy a case. It is a keeper.
